U-Haul Honored with Sustainability Award

U-Haul joined a group of elite companies when it recently received the Alliance to Save Energy’s Galaxy Star of Energy Efficiency Award.

This prestigious sustainability award is presented to organizations and companies with more than $150 million in annual revenue for their efforts to promote energy efficiency. U-Haul was selected over other high-profile finalists such as IBM, Honeywell, Morgan Stanley and the U.S. Postal Service, to name a few. Previous winners include The Home Depot, Dow Chemicals and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

“The Alliance to Save Energy is proud to honor energy efficiency leaders like U-Haul,” stated Alliance to Save Energy President, Kateri Callahan. “Through its distinctive approach to energy efficiency in vehicle sharing and storage, U-Haul is saving its customers money, while significantly reducing its energy use and emissions.”

CEO Joe Shoen and Executive Vice President (EVP) Sam Shoen represented the company at the 18th Annual "Evening with the Stars of Energy Efficiency" Awards Dinner in Washington, D.C. on September 14. Among the more than 500 dignitaries in attendance at the black-tie event were representatives from the White House, Congress and CEOs from the largest companies in the U.S. Leilani Munter, a race car driver and environmental activist, presented the Galaxy Award to U-Haul for its innovative corporate sustainability programs.

Among the many U-Haul sustainable projects that were recognized were the partnership with Ford to develop and implement the award-winning 3-Wet Paint technology, the Take A Box, Leave A Box Program and the Sustainable Modular Storage Program.
