Facility to include 500 self-storage rooms with climate-controlled options

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. (April 11, 2019) — U-Haul® is revealing details for its adaptive reuse of a vacated former Kmart® store that will be transformed into the Company’s first full-service facility in Leavenworth. U-Haul acquired the 12.91-acre property on March 6.

U-Haul Moving & Storage of Fort Leavenworth at 4820 S. 4th St. is currently operating out of a temporary showroom, offering truck and trailer sharing along with moving supplies.

Extensive renovations will soon render more than 500 climate-controlled indoor self-storage units with high-tech security features at affordable price points. U-Haul Remote 24/7® access for self-storage customers, U-Box® portable storage containers, towing accessories and professional hitch installation, and more will also be available at the 87,113-square-foot building.

The recent acquisition of the former Kmart store was driven by U-Haul Corporate Sustainability initiatives: U-Haul supports infill developments to help local communities lower their carbon footprint.
