U-Haul Rentals a Handy Addition at Port Clinton Ace Hardware

Chuck Allendorf, owner of Port Clinton Ace Hardware at 1608 E. Perry St., had long planned on offering U-Haul products and recently made good on his intentions by becoming the lone U-Haul neighborhood dealer in Port Clinton.
“I plan to retire, and my son John will be taking over the business,” Allendorf said. “I had the idea for U-Haul a while ago, but I waited until he could be here.”
Port Clinton Ace Hardware utilizes an empty parking lot behind the store to maintain an average of four trucks and 12 trailers at a time. Those numbers should increase during the summer, which represents the busy season for movers when U-Haul equipment is in high demand.

Port Clinton Ace Hardware is open 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday. After-hours drop-off is available for U-Haul customers.
Because Port Clinton is a boating and resort area near Lake Erie, its population is in flux with the seasons.
“It is a strange town because business is nonexistent in the winter time, but from May-September it becomes a madhouse,” Allendorf said.
Allendorf is a seasoned pro in the business world. He owned six businesses prior to Port Clinton Ace Hardware, which he purchased in 2003. Allendorf knows connecting with the community he serves is important for many reasons.
“We work with all kinds of local organizations,” he said. “We make monetary donations, but we give support with products as well. Recently, we purchased new signs for the school’s football stadium.”
