City of Phoenix Recognizes U-Haul at the 2014 National Preservation Month Celebration

PHOENIX (May 28, 2014) – The city of Phoenix held the National Preservation Month Celebration in the Atrium at City Hall, located at 200 W. Washington Street, to honor 75 property owners whose buildings were constructed between 1945 and 1975.

The U-Haul Central Towers were honored for being included in those 75 original buildings that led to population growth and economic prosperity throughout the valley. According to the City of Phoenix Historic Preservation Office, U-Haul’s Central Towers have been a part of the city skyline since 1959. U-Haul made Phoenix its official company headquarters in 1967. Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton hosted the event and handed out the awards to the property owners in attendance.  U-Haul was represented by Dr. Allan Yang, the head of Corporate Sustainability for U-Haul who accepted the award on the company’s behalf.  The mayor had wonderful things to say about U-Haul Company’s presence in Phoenix over the years.

“We are happy that U-Haul chose to keep the company local,” Stanton exclaimed. “The city of Phoenix is very proud of CEO Joe Shoen’s commitment to community activism, which is what this event is really about.”
