First this was not the location I requested and was further away from our load point. Going to the location I passed 2 other Uhaul locations that had equipment ready and available as I found out latter. This added to our time to get loaded. We had issues with the truck the following morning where in the truck had white smoke when we would stop and the engine would idle and could not drive over 45mph as the truck would shake. I contacted the Uhaul customer service number and was advised that it would be 1-2 hours for a tech to come out. We continued on streets which took longer than expected to move 15 miles and could not get the truck unloaded and back to the drop off location as it took too long to get to our destination.

When I called the location to inform them that I would be picking up the vehicle they told me that I was not on their pick-up list and that there was no way I had reserved a vehicle from there because they had just opened and no females work there, who is the person that made my reservation. It turns out that the number I was calling was also linked to that location and the person in charge didn't even know that! I feel that the U-haul should have better internal communication with its vendors/service providers so that the customer does not have to face any inconveniences or confusions. Also, when I made my reservation, I called the number to the location nearest me and they made the reservation without telling me that the vehicle would actually be provided from another location, opposite of my choice. Thus, I belive that U-haul can do a better job of letting the customer know where the vehicle is available so that the customer does not drive to the wrong location for pick up.

Tom who apparently runs this location doesn't seem to be a bad guy by any means. However his customer service skills are rock bottom. He's condescending with every word out of his mouth, clearly does not like his job and seems irritated to have to do it. In the end he was both helpful and fair, but I have to say that in 25 years of utilizing Uhaul's services I've never dealt with anyone even close to this unqualified to interact with customers or to be the individual representing a reputable chain.
