When I arrived to purchase packing supplies there were two employees working. One employee was helping a customer but the other employee was just sitting at the register doing nothing. He offered no help and when I purchased the glass pack he did not tell me that the box was not included in the pack. So, it wasn't until I was at home and had my antique glasses set out on a table for packing that I saw that the box was not included although it states on the description that it is included. I called the store and was told that "it happened all the time" and that they would give me the box if I came to pick it up. Well, of course they need to give me the box - I bought it! They should have given it to me when I purchased it. I explained that the drive was 30 minutes away and that I had a team of people packing the house up and could not leave. They never apologized, would not bring the box to me, and would not offer any compensation. The manager said she would call back and never did. I left several messages and never got a call to even apologize for their error. This was a major inconvenience to me and they did not even offer to refund the price of the box. Both the person at the U-Haul store and the movers said that they do this all of the time yet they do not care and do not ensure that the mistake doesn't happen again. Another big problem was the fact that we needed to rent a trailer in addition to the 26" truck although I described what we needed to load and was told that we would have plenty of room. When I called the on-line number to rent the trailer I was told that we could pull it on our Honda Pilot. We told him that we had a hitch but did not have the electrical hooked up so we could not control the lights. The online sales person told me that we did not need it because the trailer lights operated by traction sensor and would go on when they sensed that the car was slowing down. So, my husband drove to the U-Haul location with the Pilot to be told by the U-Haul people there that the on-line sales person was completely wrong and that we had to pull it with the truck. So, he had to go all the way back home, get the truck, go back to U-Haul and come back home again after the trailer was connected. In the meantime, we had to pay the movers $90/hour to sit around for almost two hours while he tried to get the trailer. This $180 additional expense, along with our wasted time and gas spent should not have happened at all had the original quote been accurate and the on-line sales person knew that the Pilot could not be used. The experience with U-Haul was terrible.

The truck lost oil pressure and we had to pull off the Interstate at the next exit and when we checked the oil, it did not retgister on the dip stick. We purchased 4 qts of oil and 1 qt. of transmission fluid and was on our way. Something was obviously wrong with it when we picked it up in Newark, OH and now I question if our truck was even checked over. However U-Haul did reimburse me for the oil and transmission fluid.

Counter help seemed less than interested in my business and were not well trained. Did seem like both were kind of disinterested in being there. Phones were constantly ringing but one person said they could answer them because they were broken. Felt somewhat concerned that my information was not entered correctly. I had to sweep debris out of the trailer before I loaded it.

I initially reserved a truck at the Marathon on Mt Vernon Rd in Newark for 11AM. They called the night before and said that my reservation didn't mean a truck would actually be there at 11 and it would be there at 3. I arrived at 3 to find no truck because "they left stuff in it and went to a graduation party, I told them to get it back here as soon as they could." I had already asked at the 21st st location and was told they had no trucks. As my ride took me all the way back home to figure out what to do with the movers that had been waiting all day to get started I received a call from a man identifying himself as some type of manager. He said he had a truck for me at 21st st and in addition he said he would refund me $50 for my inconvenience. He stated more than once that it would be a "separate transaction". There was, indeed, a brand new truck magically at the 21st st location and my move finally began at 5:30PM and didn't finish until 2:30 AM in a quiet neighborhood that I awakened.I waited for the $50 to appear in my account and when it hadn't I called the number that I think was the one from that day and time. I left a voicemail asking about the status of my refund and never received a call back or my money. I will hesitate in the future to use Uhaul because of this experience. I would also appreciate some follow up to resolve this because I can't remember another time when I have been so inconvenienced. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

The truck that I rented was absolutely the worst vehicle I have ever driven. It didn't want to start half of the time, it shook really bad at one point when I was returning it (I thought for sure we were going to break down). When I returned it, I told the woman that worked there about the experience...she chuckled and said it's because it's REALLY old and that one hardly ever gets rented, so it just sits.

I had a great experience renting and returning a truck. It has been a number of years since using U-Haul and I was very surprised - to the positive. The ability to perform most of the tedious signup work online made the pickup in the morning a breeze. Make sure your employees pull their pants up. I really didn't want to look at this young mans pants hanging halfway down his behind with his underwear sticking out while he was checking the truck when I brought it back. While he was nice - the sagging pants is really unprofessional.

They rented a truck with a messed up axle and did not check it before letting us leave the property with it. It was seriously dangerous for not only us but other people on the road. The rear tire was rubbing on the side of the bed of the truck. We had to drive the steering wheel completely upside down because that's how bad the alignment was off. The ladies ended up giving our money back but I feel they should have to do a safety inspection prior.

Next time someone says that they are there to pick up a key at 6:30 pm for their storage unit because they will be back, and the location closes at 7, then the staff should tell that person instead of leading them to believe that the storage units are open 24 hours, in turn making us wait almost an hour to be able to get into our storage unit.

They had me sitting in the truck for 20 minutes before telling me to come into the store then a gentleman needed my truck moved and he was just rude and unpersonalable and not friendly at all.
