Movers through uhaul kept my truck for 3 days. You can't allow people like this on your site and then make it my problem.

I have four issues regarding my rental experience. First, when we checked in, the clerk walked us out to somewhere near the truck (in the dark), said "that's your truck," then left. We had to try the key to make sure we were taking the correct truck. Second, the fuel level on the paperwork was higher than the actual fuel gauge. I didn't notice that until after I left the location and didn't raise the issue because I figured it was too late. Third, the truck had a strong odor of cigarette smoke. It was most unpleasant to drive. Lastly, when I returned the truck, the person checking me back in was smoking a cigarette the whole time he was checking the truck in (he was even inside the truck with a cigarette in his mouth. It was an unprofessional operation.

When the customer returns the equipment, properly log it back in! I got a call two days later asking me about why I hadn't yet returned the vehicle when I had returned it THAT SAME DAY. Fortunately, I was able to get it straightened out, but the situation should not have arisen in the first place!

I reserved a 17ft truck online for this past Friday, 11/13/15 from 6pm to 6pm on 11/14/15. When I went to pick up the truck, the employees tell me the reservation is for the 11/20/15. They then ask if I made this reservation online, as to give the impression this is a normal occurrence with online reservations. They then call the uhaul in north charleston. The employee then lies to me and says they have a 15ft truck free until 5:30pm on 11/14/15, and will transfer my reservation to the other store. When arriving at the other store, I am told the only truck they have is a 26ft that has to be back at 2pm 11/14/15. I take the truck because I was in a catch 22. The next morning starting at 7:30am, I get a voice mail stating that the truck needed to be back an hour earlier at 1pm. Your employee from the north charleston store also curses at my fiancé over the phone during another phone call. The truck was also lacking in maintenance, the ABS light was on the entire time, the brake pedal went straight to the floor, and the power steering was on its way out. When turning the wheel you could feel it slip/loose pressure. Maybe the belt is slipping and needs replaced, or the lines need bled? But again, I was stuck between a rock and a hard place with the truck; We had to get our belongings out of the house. As a former employee of uhaul, I keep my expectations aren't exactly high, but this experience has fallen very short of low. Between the online rental being set for the wrong date, your employees implying this sort of thing happens on a regular basis, your employees flat out lying to my face, not once but twice, their manors over the phone, and poor truck maintenance.

Every time I choose to do business with Uhaul is a battle. My first time as a customer they gave my rental away. The second time they accused me of damaging the truck when returned, and it was only when another employee verified that the damage was from a previous customer that the manager backed off. I now take photos and video of EVERY part of the truck before driving off the lot (your damage stickers are a joke). Today was yet another adventure in rental hell. Every time I've rented from Uhaul they place my reserved dolly and furniture pads in the back of the truck. I didn't notice that they were missing until I arrived at my destination (5 minutes from the Uhaul center) so I promptly called to explain that I left without them fearing that they'd suspect me of theft. The customer service rep said that I could either go back to receive them or he could place a note on my account saying I never received them. I chose the latter option and felt at ease with the situation. I later returned the truck, they conducted the regular walk-around and sent me on my way. I just checked my invoice and they're charging me over $200 for missing equipment! How is Uhaul okay with communicating something like this through an invoice? Rental services are already commoditized — all you have is service and customer experience! Thankfully, a chat with customer service (very kind) found that the store employees didn't see the note on my account, and they've sent messages to the regional office. I'm supposed to receive a refund within 72 hours. If you're already nervous about driving a large vehicle and transporting your valuables across the state, think twice about using Uhaul. They'll give you worse things to deal with!

As far as the equipment being well maintained, the truck used had to be jumped once we got to the apartment. Once the truck was loaded up, we had to look for someone to give us a jump because the truck wouldn't start. After we got the truck jumped, it ran ok, but it is a good thing we didn't end up stranded anywhere with nobody to give us a jump. No discounts were given for the malfunctioned truck. We kind of disappointed but at least it didn't break down on us or stop in the middle of nowhere.
