This trip from the Minneapolis area was far less eventful than a recent drive in a 26' U-Haul through heavy snow and hours of white-out conditions without a single "Allah's snack bar" to mentally refuel. In fact, many a drive from Minneapolis to Des Moines borders on a level of boredom that threatens your safety and that of your fellow highway travelers. The truck ran perfectly and I was able to find many of the features hidden in the cab to break much of the boredom. Sadly, during this trip there was a death in the family (NOT in the truck or even U-Haul-related...relax). The U-Haul people were extremely human, empathetic, and flexible. I most sincerely thank them. Upon returning the truck in Des Moines Jake S. (who has a mother; 'inside joke) handled the return extremely efficiently, courteously, and with respect in spite of the rain. So, to those of you who have written or intend to write the negative reviews..."you're doing it wrong".

Most horrible customer service we have EVER encountered, the guy was rude, slamming his stuff around, and treated us like total crap for even being there, they didn't have the truck we wanted, and we waited over 20 minutes before he even stomped his was in, will NEVER come to this location ever, and maybe you should reevaluate your employees and train them to have a good customer service skills!!!!

The customer service needs work. No one was in the office and had to wait just a few minutes. Employee came in and said nothing to me and then sat at his desk which was one desk away but did not offer to assist. I then walked over to his station and he asked how he could help. Do NOT ignore your customers!

You have employees smoking electronic cigarettes inside the building. No pre rental walk through for damage and to confirm where the fuel marker and mileage was. Thankfully I took photos of everything before taking off and when returning. Upon returning I'm asked to do a walk through to make sure the turn signals brake lights and headlights all work non of which were done prior to me leaving this comes off as very shady. I drove a total of 11 miles but put $10 of gas in the truck so it was actually at half a tank as indicated prior to leaving even though it was below half a tank when receiving the truck. Overall experience was appalling at best I'll never use your company again.

Yeah. It's long but, it was worth it... Loading the 26' truck took much longer than I expected as this included some of my heavier belongings (wood working machines). I finally got onto the highway as the sun was setting on another cold Minnesota day. I was tired but knew that I needed to get on the road in order to return the truck on time. Snow was expected but there wasn't any other option. The multi-inch forecasted snow soon turned into blizzard conditions and TOTAL white-out driving (now dark). Many times I wanted to get off of the interstate highway but, you literally could not see where the exits were much less the highway itself('vehicles in ditches for MANY miles)!! This was true "white-knuckle" driving and included six blinding episodes of thunder snow (yeah Jim, we have it, too)!! I arrived at my destination (normally a 3 - 3.5 hour drive) 7.5 hours after first entering the highway. The truck handled beautifully during the entire trip (at 20 - 30 mph). The following day I prepared to unload and it began to rain. ('Ever have one of those days/weeks?) It rained almost constantly during the two days that I was unloading that 26' truck. A band saw got loose as it was coming down the ramp but, it could have been much worse. Because of the rain I called for an additional day or two ('money that I really needed for other things but, I wasn't going to return it with some of my stuff in it, right?). "No problem. Anything that we can do to help," was the U-Haul response. I thought about asking for a hot fire, a mug of hot cocoa with a couple of shots of something, dry clothes, an overstuffed chair, and a pair of cozy fleece-lined slippers but, they were not listed on U-Haul's product list (perhaps something that they should consider adding in the colder northern states and Canada). After sweeping out the truck and a quick cab interior exam and wipe down I headed for the U-Haul return location (only about a mile and a half). 'Checking the fuel gauge I noted that it was a bit over the level when first rented. I walked into the SE 14th St.(Des Moines, IA) location only to see Craig T. behind the counter. He was somewhat large and looming and a possible biker wanna-be. Recalling many of the horrid one-star reviews that I'd read about U-Haul I quickly prepared myself for a bad ending to a long (now) five days as I expected to joust with Craig over the additional days, condition of the truck, and the remaining fuel. Craig asked what he could do for me as I approached his counter/berm. After telling him, "'Return" he brought my account up, paused, read further, and said okay, let's check the truck. After that short process (checking lights, etc.) we returned to the jousting arena. (My words, not his). While reaching to lower the visor on my helmet he commented that I had had a rough week. Peering at him (through the slit of the helmet) I re-arranged my chain mail and agreed. He silently reached below the counter (

I would like to say that I had problems with the wiring on the trailer hitch on my vehicle and the staff at this location went above and beyong to rectify the situation and get me on my way. I couldn't have been more pleased and appreciative of their efforts.

The van wasn't ready even though I pre reserved it. The windshield was very dirty. The warning message for a tire service was needed, so then I had to wait longer for the tire pressure to be checked. This message stayed on and I couldn't see the mileage numbers. The rest of the inside of the van was clean. The man who helped me was very nice.

Staff was friendly however, didn't seem to know much nor able to attend to each customer meaning would skip around. Would do a little for me, then go to next, then back to me... Should finish with one customer before going to next... very unprofessional. Also the uhaul trailor was old and not in good repair.

they gave me the wrong size of trailer and after I loaded my pickup witch didn't fit like they said it would, I could not drive over 35 miles an hour or the trailer would fishtail. I had to stop at least 4 times to put the finder back on cause it wasn't bolted down properly. because of the speed it took me over four hours to go almost a hundred mile instead of the 2 hour it should have taken.

I was very disappointed when I arrived and was informed that the 17' truck I reserved weeks in advanced was not available. The only option a available was a cargo van or pickup truck. In the end the gentleman that helped me got me squared away with something that would help. He was very nice and helpful. Just disappointed with not having the truck.

The drive in/out lot sucks. Very unorganized. My car was blocked in from 3 sides. Had to wait 15 minutes to get out of the lot. Also the advertised price is deceiving. $29.99 turned into $86.00 plus $15 for gas and only drove 39 miles. Not using again.

When departing from U-Haul location the employee stated to me bring it back with the same amount of Gas which I did. When returning the truck another employee said that the gas hand had move which I had just left Q-Trip putting $4.00 to get the gas hand back to what it was when departure anyway I paid the $91.00 bill which I only drove 21 miles I will not be doing Business with this company ever again also I'm advising all of my friends and family and who ever I talk to asking them to not do Business with U-Haul. No one needs to be shafted like that is so petty.

We had a 26' Uhaul over nightand we went to start it the next day and it wouldn't start. So we called them and they told us we had to call roadside service and that we had probably left a light on or something. NO we did not leave a light on or anything. So then when taking it back we felt like we needed to be reimbursed for The inconvenience of because we had to be out by a certain time. It delayed us 1 1/2 hours. They would not give us anything off of our bill not even for the gas they said they couldn't. Plus they are unprofessional!! That's bullshit! And we will never use U-Haul again!

You could not charge me an extra day when I had to stand around waiting in your store a half hour to turn it in. You could not rent out an Arizona vehicle in Iowa with a snowstorm on the way. I had no traction and nothing to clean the windshield. You could also not charge me like I was lead to believe for a dolly I couldn't use and called to tell you that. I have two more moves ahead of me, and if this mistreatment stands, I won't rent from you again.
