I used the webpage to reserve a u-haul, my total for a day came to around $60-$70.
I scheduled my pickup at 2 pm on the 14th April 2015.
Upon my arrival I found no workers present.
I found a number posted on the office wall, that I decided I will call. It was answered by a man with a very poor and off putting attitude. Yes? as he answered, I mentioned I was here for a U-haul, and he said okay then come up. I asked him where "up was" as he continued to get annoyed and look at me from the top of the stairs that are located in the back of the building behind trash cans, and out of sight. However he felt it appropriate to watch me walk around this entire time looking for him and talking to him on the phone when he could have just yelled, walked down the stairs to get me.
When I entered his office, it was filled with old belongings found in the back of U-Hauls and left behind from storage units. In this Office located in the attic of the building, covered in dust, cluttered and lit with a small lamp on a desk. I looked for a seat to sit as he made zero eye contact and continued to just ask me for my id and credit card. Throughout the purchase the man made zero conversation except about how he enjoyed to fish and cut animals up into pieces. This was not a very great conversation considering I am in an attic that is poorly lit, with a grumpy old man who is making vulgar and unfriendly conversation.
I finally received the contract which was printed out onto a piece of paper from a printer that made it absolutly impossible to read. Finally we made our way to the truck, in which he turned it on, promptly turned it off and left me with the key.
The truck had trash and other small items left inside it however it is a rental so I ignored this.
I mentioned to the man I was moving all day, I asked if it will be just the $60 - $70 and he said yes. I also asked if it was okay if I dropped the vehicle off a couple hours later as I had a lot to do, and may not be able to finish before the 24hours. He also said that is fine.
- Long story I know but bear with me -
Finally I returned the Truck and when I looked at my bill the next morning from my bank statement I was charged $64.55 on April 14th, and then $171.12 on April 16th.
I called the individual around 10 am who was running the operation and his phone was barely connected so I asked if he could use another phone, He said he will call me right back. I hung up and did not speak with him until later in the afternoon around 3pm. So much for a call back. I was then told that the charges were because I was charged .79 cents per mile and because I drove more than 20 miles i got charged more....
WHAT THE HECK
When throughout the entire experience was that explained? now I am left paying $250 for a uhaul that was supposed to be $64 ? Not to mention who the heck goes only 20 miles when moving? im sorry just from the location to downtown in our city is 2 -3 miles, so that back and f
