Cons: 1) Make sure you don' ask for two phone numbers. There are actually people that only have one phone number. For the person behind the counter to insist on two phone numbers was unreasonable. A reason other than the usual nonsense of this being a 'store policy' was not given. 2) Person behind the counter was not impolite, but also not particularly polite. Given that it is ultimately the customer who pays his salary that is a bit of a surprise. 3) Most importantly, we had purchased the full insurance package (worth 28 dollars). We even confirmed with the person behind the counter during check-in that it was included. He said 'yes'. Then he gave us the contract and asked us to check that everything was correct. When we did so outside we realized that he had NOT included the insurance package. Instead the contract said something to the extent of 'no form insurance purchased'. We had to go back in and ask for the contract to be corrected. Aside from the obvious this also cost us time. Overall, this particular U-Haul location is not particularly trustworthy. On a side note: The final amount billed was correct and e-mail delivery was convenient. However, when looking at the details it turns out that whoever did the return check-in work had counted 18 returned pads compared to the 12 rented and 3 returned utility dollies compared to the 2 rented. You can rest assured that we returned the same number of blankets and utility dollies that we had rented. You figure out where the discrepancy comes from.

There are framing customers to earn money. They intentionally put wrong gas level indication and corrects it if we check and ask in the receipt but still charges for the wrong indicated gas level. Now asking us to go back to location and show the receipt. Intentionally frustrating the customers. It's insane.

Tonnelle Ave location was fine. However, we are furious because our reservation was for Holland Tunnel locations, and they were closed when we went to pick up at our scheduled time!! VERy POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE, cost us time, money and aggravation. Not Happy.

The worker at that location was nice. But getting their to pick up the truck was a problem. I pick the 597 Marin Blvd location. Had to pay a cab to bring me their to pick up truck. And on the highway for 30 or more

I was redirected to this place, having been informed that the site I had already made my reservation with did not have the equipment I had ordered. This is an issue with UHaul's wider system as opposed to Tonnelle Ave's particular branch, however the service really didn't improve. The check out counter was not ready (malfunctioning computer and card pad). The truck was not there on site, and I had to follow another truck to a different lot through city traffic (and this second lot was in very bad condition, and needs to be paved properly). Due to these, I was running late and in a rush, left before realizing that the furniture pads I had requested were not in the vehicle. Missing furniture pads aside, the vehicle was in very good shape. You could improve by having your equipment ready on the premise, and if you need to bring customers elsewhere, pave the secondary lot, which looked really dismal. There is tire damage waiting to happen in that lot.

very difficult to navigate to this location- on a divided highway in the middle of several on ramps; if you are able to find it and get there, it's fine, but get ready for a navigation adventure!

For the most part, the service was okay. However, the guy who was supposed to be helping me at the counter decided that flirting with his colleague was more important than taking care of a customer's needs quickly. Also, they installed the connection for my car's lights to the trailer, which was supposed to take an hour, but it took 3 hours so my departure was delayed. This is a very busy location and they seemed to take care of people ok, but for me it was a painful experience working with them.

Staff was attentive and friendly, I have nothing bad to say about them, that was the only good part of my first uhaul experience. But the condition of the vehicle was unacceptable. Right front tire make a weird noise which made me feel very unsafe, side mirrors were lose kept tilting downwards. Vehicle had a broken gas gauge. 5 miles into my trip ran out of gas in the middle of the highway when gauge showed 1/4 full. Cost me so much time and money and caused a big deal of inconvenience. Will never use uhaul again!!!

This whole experience was stressful and unacceptable...it wasn't just this location but the company and customer service overall. I will never use U-Haul again. After what I have seen the past few days, I'd gladly pay extra to use another company like Penske, whose representatives were courteous and professional.

The person that checks in the trucks was not trained well. He didn't know that customers had the ability to pre-pay for extra milage on a van rental, which i did. This caused a lot of confusion at drop off time. Even though he was wrong, he insisted on arguing with me, the customer and forced to me go into the office and stand on a 30 min long line to return the vehicle. This, after a long day of moving, is not what anyone wants. I specifically had the central reservation operator write in the notes of my reservation the details of the pre pay because the details did not show up on the invoice and i just knew it would cause an issue at the end. So U Haul needs update their system and have the info printed on the bill, equip their check in people with better check in devices like when you return any rental car, and train their employees to listen to the customers. Also, I called into the central U Haul phone number as i waited in line and someone just put me on eternal hold as to not have to deal with me. Very poor service from this company all around.
