It would take several chapters just to explain my terrible experience with this company. In order for me to find closure and for me to hold this company accountable, I had to contact Joe Shoen - he is currently the president, chairman of the board, and chief executive officer of AMERCO, the holding company of U-Haul International. I contacted him on his cell phone - he provided his cell number in an interview a few years back - and after I explained to him what was happening, he told me he would investigate the matter further. Precisely 1 hour after getting off the phone with Mr. Shoen, I was contacted by a U-Haul rep informing me that they approved a refund, in regards to the $50 guarantee that the company offers its customers. I discussed this matter originally with the employees at the Summer location (Memphis TN), then with the GM of the Summer location (Kenneth was his name), then with the U-Haul customer support center, and then with the Consumer Complaints department. ALL of the reps I spoke with gave me the 'run-around' and the GM, Kenneth, wouldn't even return my calls.

I have been a very long term customer of U-Haul and my last experience was very dissatisfying. My son rented an Auto Transport to transport a classic car he would be using in his wedding the very next day. He called U-Haul the day before, confirmed his vehicle would be qualified to pull the auto transport, and U-Haul confirmed it would. He arrived the next morning to rent the AT, and the U-Haul techs had to go through three ATs until they found one that was in safe rental condition. (Lights were out on one, and I think another one had some brake issues) They connected the AT to his vehicle, and then performed a safety inspection. An additional safety inspection was performed by another individual before leaving the U-Haul facility. He brought the AT to my house approximately 7 miles. We loaded the classic car with no problem. We then pulled away from loading the car, and felt a strong impact and heard a loud noise. We stopped immediately, and found the AT had come off of the trailer ball, impacting the back of my son’s vehicle, damaging the tailgate, bumper, and license plate. I found that the U-Haul tech had not tightened the coupler adjustment knob on the AT. I found the coupler adjustment knob was in its most slack or highest counter clockwise position limit. We are able to raise the AT off of the bumper using the trailer jack, realigned the tow vehicle, and properly attached the AT to the hitch and properly closed the coupler clamp. Additional proof the clamp was now properly adjusted was indicated by well over an inch of thread was showing above the adjusting knob. When the AT came off of the tow vehicle, there were only two threads showing. We called the U-Haul center, explained the situation, and they requested we bring the vehicle to them for inspection. They first denied and claimed it was properly installed, but then changed their story a few times when we showed pictures. They then noted the hitch on the tow vehicle was not rated to tow the AT, and the general manager stated had he been out there when his techs were attaching the AT, he would have never allowed it to leave. They would not allow us to continue to tow the AT, and since at that time of day I had no other options, I had to rent a truck from U-Haul to tow the AT. Had U-Haul properly identified the original tow vehicle was not capable of towing the AT, I would have made other arrangements. Due to their negligence, I am out an additional sum of money to rent the U-Haul truck, and what should have been just a few hours of my day, turned into about a 6 hour ordeal. To make matters worse, this was the day before my son’s wedding and we were operating on a very limited time schedule. The general manager agreed not to charge me the cost of truck rental, but I am still out the insurance cost, and the mileage fees. In total, and not accounting from my time, I could have had the classic car towed by a towing service for about $20.00 less, and would have only

Fuel tanks should be full. The 5 dollars for the environmental fee is not the customers fee that's u hauls fee with the EPA .

I reserved a U-Haul for the 18th at 9:30am, at the Watkins location, when I arrived to pick up the U-Haul it was not there and the worker was unable to locate and didn't have a time for it to be returned. However, I was promised a call as soon as it arrive and also a 50 dollar guarantee off the rental. I never received my call or the 50 dollars off the rental. So when I called to get an update the truck was still not in and they were still unaware of when it would be returned. So my reservation was then transferred to the summer location. I was finally able to pick a U-Haul up at 12:15pm. 2 hours and 15mins later. And as of today I still hasn't received call.

You need new customer service employees who do not lie to people and give better rates. Your equipment is junk and the rates are way to outrageous! Also the customer service employees are rude and not helpful and DO NOT care nothing for customers. You also need to get a more convenient way of storage other than stairs for the second floor! Needless to say, I will never use Uhaul again or never will I recommend Uhaul to anyone else! NEVER!!!!

We rented a trailer Friday night to use for the weekend and return Sunday night. We were under the impression that we would be charged for 2 days, but was later told and invoiced charges for 3 days. I tried to call and talk with a representative, but she was unsure, kept putting me on hold, and finally told me that Friday counted as a full day and I would be charged accordingly.

The information that I was given on the phone when reserving was not consistent with what I was told once I arrived. When trying to rent the U-Haul, there were so many hoops I had to jump through it was a three hour ordeal and being asked to give and leave on file two forms of identification if I paid in cash is unacceptable, there is identity theft these day! It is also ridiculous that when renting the u-haul if using a debit card that you are required to pay twice as much with a deposit if you don't use a credit card. The staff is very knowledgeable, unapologetic and has a whatever attitude when it comes to everything trying to nickle and dime you to death. I was treated with a dismissive attitude and an air of "whatever" when I became upset over being asked for leaving my identification, this is a u-haul not visiting the WHITE HOUSE!!!!!!! Don't treat everyone as if they are going to take off with a u-haul and not return it as if they are a criminal. I will not use this location again if I have to have a u-haul, the only person that seemed to be aware of anything and concerned was the manager himself.

None of my equipment was available for equipment and I had to go to 4 locations to get a truck. I ended up having to get two 10' trucks instead of one 26' truck, losing 6' and having to have another driver. There was no discount for this inconvenience. I will never use Uhaul again.

I read the website and it told me the trailer hitch could not be more than 2ft from the ground. I measured and it was less than 2ft. I got there pick up my trailer and they would not hook it up saying my hitch was too high. I had to buy another receiver that lowered the ball in order to rent the trailer .I understand the trailer did not look right at that height. If the website had been more accurate, the experience would have been better.

Counter staff does not know about equipment, and this could make selection difficult. When I asked about the height of the 17' truck, the clerk looked at the brochure, and found a "14' X 8' X 9' and told me: "The truck is 14 feet high. Also: interpretation of the return date was inaccurate. Hiring literate staff for this position is difficult in Memphis.

Rental process was fine, but the auto transporter I rented had a flat tire which wasn't noticed until the car was loaded. This caused a delay of 4 hours to have fixed. Also, a wiring repair had been fixed with duct tape, and a running light bracket was broken. The drop off location was upset at both of those problems.

"A one day rental with a debit card will require an additional form of ID" Really? when your looking at my visa card and driver's license, that's all I've got. They eventually held my car registration while I had their truck. "I can't rent to you without an alternate phone number" So you don't do business with people whom don't have phones? And 6 hours is NOT a day! It's a half day. Next time I will see what the completion is like.

My only complaint is: The sealed bag of moving blankets on the wall in the truck and the sealed hand truck in the truck take up valuable cargo space - if I wanted moving blankets or hand truck I would rent them - they don't need to be in the cargo area of the truck taking up valuable cargo space.

This location charged me an additional gas fee, after we returned the truck with the amount of gas that we left with. We only drove 41 miles in the truck and the amount that the location charged my account for was well over the mileage rate. I have never had an issue with Uhaul before and after this experience, I doubt that we will ever use them again. The clerk and yard worker were extremely rude.

I am handicapped. I couldn't find someone to help me find a step stool get in the truck. The man who was supposedly there to help me was unavailable to me, for some unknown reason. He was doing all kinds of ather things instead of focusing on taking care of checking me out and helpi8g me as i needed. Bad customer service.
