This uhaul franchisee is the worst I have ever dealt with. We reserved a 26 ft truck 3 weeks in advance, and I did the online quick check in in order to make the transaction a quick and smooth one when we picked the truck up. The afternoon before we were to pick the truck up, the owner of the franchise called and left a VM about the rental; I was working the night shift, so could not return the call until after they were closed. The next morning, when I looked at my phone, I saw that he had called twice while I was sleeping, but had not left a message. Before I went back to sleep, I told my wife to call and let them know we'd be there after noon. She called, and was asked when she would be in to pick the truck up; she let them know it would be around noon, as she had to wait for a ride in order to drive the truck home. She was told that it had to be exactly noon, or they would not rent the truck to us. She told them she couldn't guarantee that because it depended on when her daughter made it to the house, but that she would be there within an hour or so of the noon time frame. She was told that was unacceptable, and that, again, we would lose the truck unless we gave an exact time and were there at that time. She told me when I woke up, and I called the owner to straighten it out. He told me the same thing, saying that they had to "keep to a schedule" even though I had reserved the truck, had confirmed the reservation with my quick check in, and my wife and I had each called in to confirm we would be there that afternoon. Long story shortened, he maintained that the truck pickup needed to be held to a strict schedule, and was even willing to cance my reservation. As I got more frustrated, he finally relented and said it needed to be picked up by 5pm - something we would have agreed to during the initial phone call. I did call another uhaul franchisee that was close to see if they had a 26 ft truck to rent, as I really was done with the other owner, but the 2nd franchise owner did not have one available. They did tell me that they had also had problems with the other uhaul franchise owner, and had to have the field manager intervene multiple times to force the poorly run uhaul to work within the uhaul network as they should.
My recommendation...stay as far away from the Quick Pick uhaul in Middleton, VA at all costs. Nasty little man with a god complex. There is no way he should be a uhaul franchise owner, and if uhaul were looking out for their brand, they would revoke his uhaul license.
