I hope I NEVER have to rent another U-Haul Truck! My experience RUINED what should have been one of the most happiest days of my life. We reserved a truck to help our son move following graduation exercises at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. The problems started with the confirmation call! The woman did not tell me that I was "scheduled" to pick up the truck for a different location than I had chosen until we discussed a pick-up time. I had requested a location that was open until 7:00pm so we could pick up the truck following the ceremonies. I told the woman that I wanted to pick up the truck at 3:00pm. She then informed me that she was closing at 2:00pm but she would wait until 2:30pm. There is no way for me to know when graduation would conclude. I did not want to find myself outside an empty building with no truck. That is why I picked a location that was open until 7:00pm. I asked the woman when she opened and she said she opened at 9:00am. I told the woman that I would pick up the truck at 9:00am. She kept asking if I could be there by 2:30. I kept telling her that I would be there at 9:00. I arrived shortly after 9:00am and started discussing the transaction with the woman. She had no idea that I had ordered furniture blankets. There were only half as many blankets in the truck as what I had ordered. Then I showed her my printout that I had paid for a mattress cover. After giving me a sigh of disgust, she informed me that I would have to go to the location that I had originally picked in order to get it. That's when I blew my stack. I had had it "up to here" with this woman. She wanted to force me to go to another location to pick up a $4 mattress cover! She said she didn't have "the same one" at her location. So now I not only didn't get the time or location I requested, I had to make a separate trip to get what I needed from the location I wanted in the first place! That was just too much for me! She finally gave in and provided me with a cover. She told me it was a better (and presumably more expensive) one than what I had ordered. Then we went to the truck. I inspected the exterior and found severe scrapes all along the outside of the passenger side of the box, near the top of the truck. There was no way for me to get to the damage to place the "x" sticker on it. There was a hand truck in the box that I requested to be removed since I did not order it. It would be in the way since it was located at the rear of the box. The woman grudgingly complied. She then went into the building and left me alone with the truck. I went into the cab and removed the cardboard sun screen/advertising. I attempted to take it into the building but the woman had locked the door. I banged on the door until she returned and opened it. She started to tell me to leave it in the truck until she relented and took it from me. The truck was NOT in pick-up condition! She KNEW what time I would be there and should have known what equipment I ordered. NOTHIN
