When a customer orders a dolly, give them the dolly. Don't make them go back and waste valuable time and fuel that they've already paid for to get the piece of equipment that you forgot to give them. At least apologize when you make a mistake and give some kind of discount. Horrible service. Unbelievable.

I made a reservation for a 20 foot truck for 8 a.m. on a Saturday I was told they had a truck available for 8 a.m. that was 20 feet and the reservation was made I received the confirmation email then a person from the Whalley Avenue in New Haven u-haul called me two days before to confirm my reservation but the reservation was not for a 20 foot truck it was for a 17 foot truck I, informed them thatI reserved a 20 foot truck they told me that there was not a 20 foot truck available for the time slot that I was looking for so I was put into a 17 foot truck. no one from Uhaul ever called me to inform me of the change to a smaller truck there was never an email sent informing me that they needed to change my reservation or if I wanted them to change my reservation for a 20 foot truck. the fact that I could not have the truck size that I needed cause me to have to take two trips back and forth which caused more money to be spent on gas and on the $0.99 per mile distance charge. when I spoke to the manager at the Whalley Avenue Uhaul about my concern for having to make two trips in order to completely move and the added expense that it would cost, I asked if there was something they could do about the mileage perhaps a discount due to the error in reserving the wrong size truck and I was told that the mistake was not made on their end so there was nothing that they would be willing to do to compensate the error. I was thoroughly disgusted with the entire situation and the lack of customer service that was provided. Aswell add the doubled cost for mileage and gas.

Reserved hours should be more clear. After reserving the truck for 8 hours I was told when I went to pick it up I would have only 4 hours since everything is subject to availability. this was not clear in the beginning. also the people doing the billing made mistakes on bill which were corrected

Parking policy is not clear and general manager was extremely rude. Manager also enforced a 6-hour return policy even though I reserved for 24-hours, I will not be using U-Haul again and will be recommended alternatives.

This is the second time I have used U-Haul and it was only out of desperation, but I will never, ever, ever use this company again. To quote the employee that set me up with the van "Oh, I'll never use U-Haul, it's terrible." The van wreaked of vomit in the back, which wasn't cleaned, the windows had been left open over night in the rain to "air out" said vomit so the seats were soaking wet. When I asked for a new van, the employee said there were no other vans available (despite the full lot). When I asked to have it cleaned, he pointed to cleaning supplies, which I was welcome to use myself. I spent 30 minutes cleaning the unacceptably filthy and smelly van with two employees smoking and watching on. I then turned on the van to see a sensor light was on for the tire pressure, which I had to literally plea with the employees to at least look at, to which they said it wasn't an issue. It flashed for the entire trip to and from Boston, which was stressful given my last U-Haul broke down and I had 0% confidence in the company's ability to maintain their vehicles. In the future, when asked by anyone I meet -- strangers or acquaintances, I will very strongly recommend that people go anywhere but U-Haul because the service, quality of vehicles and competence is staggeringly lacking. I would have asked for a refund for this horrifically bad service, but given the level of competence and lack of interest in servicing the customer, I didn't bother. Instead, I returned the van in better condition than I received and just want to be rid of the whole experience.

While the van itself was great, we had to wait in line 25 minutes to pick up our equipment. There was only one man at the counter and the registration process took ~10 min per person.

Thomas Barrett, General Manager, is the most unprofessional and irate individual I've ever encountered. Upon returning to the Uhaul location to return the rental he came charging at me screaming that "his boss told him to have my vehicle towed". Initially arriving to the location to pick up the rental Mr. Barrett himself told me to leave the store to move my vehicle to a parking space and pointed to a location where an empty parking space was. After 30 minutes of wait time to get the keys to a truck there was never not one word mentioned about parking or not being allowed to leave my vehicle in the lot. It's possible his employee failed to mention this pertinent information to myself and then lead Mr. Barrett to believe that he informed me "three times" that I had to move my car. There was never any mention of parking during the rental process. After an entire day of moving to gladly be returning the Uhaul truck I had never been more disrespected by an out of control, aggressive individual screaming and shouting he was going to tow my car and I was told three times to move my car (again, all of which is inaccurate). Moving forward I will never return to this location, I will urge anyone I interact with to steer far away from this location and I will certainly and gladly always take my business to the Uhauls competition for all future needs.

Physically highlight more than just the date and price of initial purchase. The representative never specified the contract details even when saying "I'll go over all this in a minute". We ended up paying way more than we expected, the cost per miles was never mentioned. Rental services in the past specifically share all relative information with us. U-Haul did not share these specifications.

At least half of the staff we interacted with was very rude to us, both in person and on the phone. One representative hung up on me when I called to clarify my bill and was being extremely defensive when I tried to understand the charges, even though I was not accusing her of anything. It appeared she did not understand the invoice/contract and instead of spending the time with me on the phone to answer my questions she stated "Call my manager tomorrow if you want a refund" and proceeded to hang up. I did not even mention the word refund and was simply trying to understand each charge, so I am not sure why she assumed I want a refund. This really was a highly negative experience. In addition, the phone line quality was very poor with several calls being dropped. We also felt very rushed shopping for supplies even though there were 10 minutes left until closing, one representative kept counting down the minutes constantly, making us feel quite unwelcome. That being said, there were also some very friendly customer service representatives, but they were not at the Whalley location, rather at the Orange, CT scheduling center. Overall, the customer service at the Whalley location was average at best, considering some of the rude staff. What you can do to improve the service is to really emphasize to all of your employees the importance of being customer-oriented, as they currently appear preoccupied with their own needs.

As I was checking out,I was unhappy about the extra $11.00 insurance fee that I was unable to decline.Before going to going to UHaul I called to reserve the the truck and asked if there was any hidden fees.I didn't want to pay way above the $19.99 that was stated.The rep on the phone went over everything from tax to the environmental fee.Never stated anything about the insurance.So I was very upset seeing that the last time I rented there was other fee and a pully strap I was told I had to buy,as it would come to be it was no use to me or anywhere in the truck to hook it too.with that being said I wanted to make sure there were no hidden cost.As I was speaking about my discontent to the representive the manager stop helping another customer and decide to give his in put in a very rude manner and told me that the phone rep would promise you cheese from the moon!Needless to say this is my second bad experience with UHaul and I will not be returning or recommending!There are serval other rental companies that I have to choose from.The one good part of my experience was upon checking out the service rep was very friendly and professional.I believe his names was Hector.People like him should be at the front counter not the two that were there.
