Our experience with U-Haul in Philly was complete chaos. We reserved a 17' truck on July 7th for the 4857 Chestnut location, only to get a text the night before saying our location had been moved to 61st and Lancaster and was guaranteed. Luckily, we had a car, otherwise we would have to have taken a cab to get there. It would have been a waste of time, because the Lancaster location not only did not have OUR truck, but they apparently had NO trucks for the other customers trying to pick up that day. Other customers had come from other locations that were also out of trucks. The only representative they had at the desk completely shut down and could offer no help whatsoever and we were forced to call other U-Haul locations to figure out where to get a truck, as we had movers coming in a few hours. We were even forced to call other moving truck companies as there were NO trucks available on Sunday in Philadelphia. We- on our own, with no help from the 61st and Lancaster location- were able to get a reservation for a 14' truck, with a trailer from our original reservation location on Chestnut. This got our house packed, but with the added pain of driving an unwieldy truck PLUS a trailer across the Pennsylvania turnpike. I'm hesitant to ever use U-Haul again to be honest. I don't understand how to many people's reservations could have been mishandled so badly.

My main concern is that I used the van only for couple of blocks. Using it between the blocks 42 - 41 Walnut in Walnut, and then returned it to the 48 in Chestunt, after 5 hours. But I was so tired, that I didn't check the miles afterwards. And later I found out that I have been charged for 40 Miles of driving!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am very angry and disappointed, and feeling sorry for my trusting the reception guy. :(

I made a reservation for a 17' Truck on Friday for a Monday Pick-Up. Unfortunately, when I arrived on Monday there was no truck available for me. I was advised that another location could be contacted to see if they had any trucks available. I placed a reservation to secure a truck for me and so that the process would be simpler. Finding another location would have taken me out of my way, so I had to settle for a smaller truck. This is the second time I've order a truck from here and this has happened to me. The gentleman at the front desk was very polite and did all that he could do rectify the situation.

The location was next to downtown Philadelphia. Not a good place to starry fringe a 20 foot truck for the first time. I had requested the truck at a more suburban location. U-haul could have simply driven the truck the three miles to the location initially chosen online.

This location had a very long line of customers and not enough employees working. We were given inaccurate information about where in the lot our van would be located and insufficient instructions about where to pick up furniture pads. The low tire pressure light was on in our van, and an employee dismissively said we shouldn't worry about it because they conduct "regular maintenance."

The staff had zero customer service, cancelled my reservation without giving any notice and incorrectly told me there was nothing they could do to help me find a replacement truck. I was given a central number to call and this office told me that there was in fact a truck waiting for me at this location. I received no apology or assistance - it took more than an hour to obtain a truck reserved in advance due to incompetent staff. When I returned several other customers were complaining about the same error (cancelled and missing trucks). There was a line out the door and only 1-2 people helping customers although a number of individuals would show up from the back office. When I asked to speak to the manager I was not able to do so, although he/she sent me messages through other employees from the back office. This business is extremely poorly run and while I was finally able to get the truck I reserved, it was through absolutely zero assistance from the staff who were unhelpful, unmotivated, and argumentative about their own poor service and sloppy paperwork. They literally threw up their hands and said there was nothing they could do about the fact that I was moving to a new state within 24 hrs and had no moving truck due to their own sloppy work. I promise I will never use this office again and am extremely reluctant to use UHAUL again. And I will warn all of my friends about my experience.

The original location that I was assigned to drop the truck off did not exist. At one point when we talk to a representative, whom we later discovered was a reservation, informs that if we dropped the truck off at different Uhaul we would void the contract and extra charges would apply. However, when I talk to a customer service representative he made the necessary adjustments so I can drop it off at a new location. Regrettably I burned more gas. Because I was trying to catch a train I did not have time to put more gas in it. Overall, this U-Haul experience was poor.

Be sure the individual from U-haul actually does the inspection with the customer. Location tried to accuse me of breaking something that was already broken. Even though I pointed it out to an employee. Always get it in writing!!!

The van was in poor shape (graffiti painting and dented). The service was really bad, unprofessional, and slow. At one point someone refused to do the work. I will try to find a more suitable provider in the future.

Parking was a problem due to other customers. Better signage might help (e.g. ONLY U-Haul equipped vehicles may park here )
