While the equipment itself was great, the service from this location was not. There was an apparent lack of enthusiasm from the employees at this store and pertinent rental information, while available, was not expressly communicated when I picked the equipment up. As a prior UHaul employee, I was already familiar with the one-way rental process, but for someone new to this type of rental business, this lack of communication would leave the customer with unanswered questions as they proceed on their trip. Some examples - specifically highlight what to do in the case of a breakdown, who to call; verify the mileage and fuel level on the truck matches the contract before leaving the store so that there not a discrepancy at the end of the trip; verify that you received the proper qty of moving pads that is on your contract (they are bundled in plastic bags and I was one short); how to find out the drop off location; etc... This information is all available on the contract and document holder, but it helps reassure customers if the employees would personally go over this with the customer. In my case, the employee highlighted a bunch of stuff without talking about it, folded it up, put it in the document holder, and said I was all set. As far as the maintenance on the equipment - when a customer is departing on a long distance one-way move, one would expect that the equipment be thoroughly checked out, cleaned, and ready to go when the customer arrived for pickup. The truck I rented did not have the windows cleaned (bugs splattered all over the windshield and drink splatters on the inside), one of the utility dollies that I rented had a broken wheel which I had to return and swap out the next day, and then when I arrived to the house which was being packed up, the oil light on the truck came on, only to discover it was 3 qts low on oil and the oil cap missing. I should have known better when the key for my truck was taken off the wall, the red "Not Ready to Rent" part of the key tag was torn off, and the employee proceeded to "pencil whip" the check off boxes on the bag of the tag falsely indicating that the various check-offs were completed and the truck was ready to rent. Note to employees - this is actually pretty obvious to the customer when doing this and does not reflect well on you. In the many years I have been away from UHaul, I have seen the locations modernized and increasingly visually appealing, the equipment continues to improve and the design remains second to none in the industry, but unfortunately, the management philosophy of the UHaul has obviously not changed a bit. UHaul has procedures and processes in place to ensure that only properly maintained, clean, and safe equipment be dispatch to their customers. The problem lies with their inability to instill a culture with the management teams to follow thru consistently and stress the importance of these procedures.

I reserved a 6x12 open trailer with a ramp but when I arrived they informed me they did not have any with the ramp. I ended up renting one without the ramp and had to make due. No fault of the rental location, something erroneous with the reservation system.

This is the 2nd time I've rented the 24' truck and had to put 2 qts of oil in it and it's a good thing a CHP wasn't following me as the front end wandered all over the highway.

The gentleman who checked us in and provided the contract and key was completely disinterested in anything related to us as customers. His demeanor, voice and actions all seemed to relay that he was just there for the money, not sense of customer service or even the slightest smile to go with his monotone voice.
