The original drop off location (1170 23rd st, Richmond, CA) I selected is out of business! Not cool. Fortunately Uhaul of Richmond helped me out and provided excellent service recovery. I recommend that you remove 1170 23rd St from the selection menu to prevent this from happening to another customer. Thanks.

No comment as I won't refer U-haul to anyone ever. This was simply a horribly transaction on many, many levels and I feel completely taken advantage of. Making the $30 charge when the tank was clearly 1/4 full is shady and unprofessional, although I'm not surprised given the poor quality of my entire transaction with the company in whole.

Here are comments regarding the truck and U-Haul service. 1. At Richmond, CA center where we picked up the 15 ft box truck, they tried to charge about $150 more than the quote. I had to negotiate with the manager for them to honor the original price. 2. Mileage allowed was insufficient for my trip; it was 100 miles short. The only solution was to pay a huge cost per mile extra penalty. There should be a better way. 3. We failed to notice that the tire pressure in one tire was somewhat low when we picked up the truck. It was not noticeable prior to loading the truck. When asked at pick up if the truck had been serviced, the manager assured all things were checked. The low tire pressure was in the mid 30's psi. Since the tire is rated for 80 psi and operating pressure just under 80 psi, the tire was insufficiently inflated. We discovered the low tire when we loaded the truck. We first visited a gas station to find an air fill station, only to discover that gas station systems do not inflate to high enough pressure. So, we visited two truck stops. The truck stop manager unsuccessfully helped when we could not fit their nozzle to the Uhaul tire air nozzle. We tried two truck stops. The alternative was to call a service truck and wait for a long time. 4. The truck cab is designed for short legged passengers. I am 6'-4" and could not find a way to straighten my legs. This was complicated by the fact that the space for my feet on the passenger side was not wide enough for both boots to fit (it is only 10" wide). Further, the console between drive and passenger was solid hard plastic without room to permit my fee there, and sides of the small passenger compartment are hard (not padded) so that when I rested my knee on the sides for any time, the hard surface was uncomfortable. The trip was 30 hours...much too long to suffer insufficient space for my feet and legs. 5. Driver side feet area was also small, with a ledge of the floor mat about 1" thick near the accelerator pedal which regularly caught the sole of my boot when I put my foot in the area of the accelerator. This is dangerous. 6. There was very little room behind the seat to store a water bottle or purse, so they were placed on the floor between driver and passenger where any sudden stop would throw them into the foot pedal of the driver. This too is dangerous. 7. The radio worked at only one volume - loud, so we kept it off most of the trip. 8. Seats were comfortable. Truck performed well.

The truck was scary: vague steering, clunky transmission, rattley, one wheel was off the door-track and I had to fix it, mirrors loose; the ancient breast had ~190,000 miles which is time for a complete mechanical overhaul or removal from service. Adventures in moving aren't supposed to be because the vehicle is terrifying...

There were a few mixups renting my equipment, when I dropped it off around 10 am sept 9th the woman working there was immediately confrontational. The man working during that time took over and was extremely helpful and made sure he made up for the mixups. I wrongly assumed when the website said all trucks have hitches it included the cargo van. When I changed from a van to a truck and trailer we were guaranteed a closed trailer which was unavailable when we arrived. We booked for 10 days on the website. When we returned it we were charged for 11 days and more for the open trailer, but the gentleman working there adjusted those mistakes for us. In summary, make it clear the van doesn't have a hitch, get the website in sync with reality, and hire more people like the gentleman that helped us.

When I picked up my 5X8 trailer, we hooked up the break lights, but they weren't working properly. There was an issue with the grounding wire on my truck apparently. One of the employees working the lot (maintenance worker?) bypassed the broken brake like connection and jimmy rigged it to a properly working one. I was extremely grateful since he could've easily said, "not my problem," and sent me on my way. I'm really thankful he helped me out in a pinch. Also, the guy who checked me in was really nice and courteous.

Hire new staff. Train them in customer service. If the national reservation system doesn't work, prepare for glitches by checking the reservation list against available vehicles and pro-actively dealing with it.

Customer Service was poor. The woman who "helped" me was unfriendly and wanted nothing more than to get through our transaction. Not that she had others waiting - she seemed to hate being at U-Haul.

I reserved a 17' truck ended up with a 15' truck. I had to make two trips to make my move happen when the move should have only taken one. Very dissatisfied with how the additional charges were communicated and charged to my account. I won't be using this service again. I will rent from budget from now on.
