I returned my uhaul cargo van using the overnight drop off with a full tank and I was charged for using more gas that they claimed I used. I will not be returning to this location.

Two things, first of all, when checking in, I presented my credit card, but told the person that I would be paying cash upon return of the truck, and I chose the appropriate button on the machine. The attendant told me I had to choose that I was paying by credit card for the machine to process the transaction! Really, if that is the case why do you have that as an option when checking in? Second, why do I have to help the person checking the vehicle back in, to see if all the lights work? Isn't that something that you should do yourselves? Though it only took a couple of minutes, it seems silly since I am paying for the truck rental.

I made my reservation several days in advance and received notification that the truck and trailer would be available at noon on Saturday 4/18/15. I promptly called and asked if the truck and trailer could be available by 8 am, instead of noon. The person on the phone assured me that would not be an issue. When I arrived at 8 am a U Haul employee said my reservation wasn’t until noon. I explained that I had called and changed the reservation to 8 am and had been assured over the phone that would not be an issue. They said they had a larger trailer available but I would need to pay a higher fee. I said that I didn’t need the larger trailer and I wasn’t going to pay a higher fee because I hadn’t done anything wrong. The U Haul person on the phone assured me the truck and trailer I reserved would be available 8 am. The U Haul employee on-site said nobody at that location had made that promise to me. I said that somebody from U Haul had made that promise on the phone, and it is not my problem that I wasn’t directed to speak with somebody at that location. The employee said it was probably somebody at headquarters in Arizona. Finally, I said give me the damn trailer, I will write a letter and explain this situation to your corporate office; then the employee agreed to charge me for the trailer I had actually reserved. This sort of confusion needs to be addressed. I am a homeowner and live less than a mile from this location. I have projects and hobbies that require a truck several times a year, and it makes more sense for me to rent than own. However, after this experience I’m going to consider renting from another company or buying a truck and/or trailer. It is one thing to not have the rig I ordered ready when I arrive, but then to expect me to pay for U Haul’s mistake? That is ridiculous. I feel bad for the employee at the store, because they said corporate comes down pretty hard on them if they rent equipment for a lower price, even if the mistake is entirely U Hauls own. The person at the store made me feel like I had done something wrong and that left me feeling terrible about the whole experience. I will give this company one more chance and if anything like this happens again, I’m never going to use your services again. There are too many competitors to put up with crap like this. According to my wife the last time she rented from U Haul (at a San Francisco location) she had almost exactly the same experience. Is this some kind of weird corporate policy to make a profit? If so, this is going to backfire. Just charge me the price that is due and give me the equipment I ordered. Nothing more, nothing less. For comparison, just last weekend, I rented a car from Enterprise for a weekend road trip to the Bay Area. I had just the opposite experience and left extremely satisfied with Enterprise. Not satisfied with the car I rented necessarily, but with the experience and customer service I received. This is the

The truck was in overall great condition but half of the wood floor inside was stained with what smelled like oil. I didn't get blankets at the store because I hadn't expected I would need to cover the bottom of the truck to protect matresses and other items. I ended up using my own blankets and hope the smell will wash out. I would recommend opening the back door to look inside when doing the quick inspection.
