U-Haul Truck Storm Damage 12-11-2014 report number: 00607765-2014 Stormy rain and high winds on Thursday 12-11-2014 caused area power outages and broke tree branches off the trees, sending the branches flying everywhere in the Graham-Spanaway-Parkland-Tacoma area. Several small branches landed on the top of the U-Haul truck and one very large branch pierced through the roof into the storage area over the cab, damaging the roof and contents packaged within. There was water damage to the contents as well. Because the interior was fully loaded with furniture, appliances and boxes, the branch was not in view until the truck was unloaded to the over the cab storage area, into our unit at Spanaway Lake Storage, on Friday, 12-12-2014, at which time we saw the branch and immediately called U-Haul customer service to report the storm damage. We spoke to U-Haul customer service and asked what the procedure would be in this situation, because we were not done unloading the truck and it was nearly closing time for the storage facility as well. We explained that we had called daily to extend our rental except the day before which was Thursday 12-11-2014 because of the area power outage and loss of phone service. We had wanted to take the U-Haul truck back on Friday, but now had to take time from unloading to call customer service which transferred our call and the call was dropped, We called back, and finally got through to a very polite and helpful representative (I believe named Gineva or Jenine) who asked if the truck was drivable. We answered yes, there was no damage other than the roof and it ran and drove fine. She then suggested we keep the U-Haul until the next morning so as to take pictures of the damages and then take the truck back. She explained we could file a claim and post pictures at a site online. Within approximately 15 to 20 minutes after ending the call a gentleman jumped the fence at Spanaway Lake Storage and approached us, saying he was taking the U-Haul truck in for repairs. We explained what customer service had advised and that the truck ran fine, but he then said he was towing it away because we were late since 12-07-2014. We told the man that was the date we had first thought we would be done with the truck, but we called daily after that for an extension (except for the power outage on 12-11-2014). The man then TRICKED me, saying "Well can you tell me the gate code so I can get out of here?" and, believing him to be honest I told him the gate code so he could leave. He proceeded to open the gate and drive the tow truck in, hook up to the fully functional U-Haul with our belongings still inside, including our medications and my purse and wallet, paperwork ect. and then told us we had to give him the key. We asked him for the location he would be taking the truck, because we had yet to take pictures of the damages and finish unloading our belongings. He said he was not at liberty to tell us that informatio

I believe that prices gone up in a hurry in no time. with that said, a hand track must come with the Rental Truck without extra cost. its unfortunate for those that cant afford or doesn't have one handy. Also if the rental insurance is not being used Must not be charged as we were told when we rented a truck. Please do not miss lead your customer. Thank you very much for all your cooperation and consideration in this matter.

Took forever to check in and out. I would rather spend double the money and use a competitor next time.$100 not even for 24 hours and I have to wait for 45 minutes to turn the truck back in that will be my last U Haul rental ever thank you

Everytime I have been to a uhaul place lately, the facilities are woefully understaffed. We end up waiting at least half an hour before we can talk to anyone. It has happened that way the last three times we rented from you, at three different locations, in a two month period of time.

The personnel at this location were as helpful and friendly as possible given a bad situation. Unfortunately, there was an error in the scheduling/traffic portion of the paperwork, and the mileage given us did not show up and the system tried to charge us $815.89 (currently hitting our bank account). The personnel at the drop off location put the contract on hold and told us we could leave that it would be taken care of. It is now nearly 2 weeks later and we are being charged this balance while various departments of Uhaul (drop off location, traffic, customer service, collections, pick up location, etc). Brittani from Spanaway location was very helpful today (10/4/2014) by calling and finding out who we needed to call and speak to to resolve the matter. We were given the corporate customer service number and Ellen from corporate customer service explained that corporate was going to remove all outstanding charges. She also stated that they could not see the current charge pending to my debit card, and that we would need to speak with billing and collections on Monday when they open to ensure the current pending charge to our account was fully reversed/reimbursed and also speak about the possibility of compensation for our account incurring overdraft charges. We have had several Uhaul personnel help us with our move, some helpful, some not so much. Overall, we are displeased with the unsatisfactory customer service of the closing of the contract/balance issue and will pursue until the contract has been fairly completed and closed. We would appreciate someone who has authority to contact us to ensure the issue has been completely successfully resolved.

This U-Haul store was as accommodating and helpful as they could possibly be. In looking for an alternate drop off location, I had checked the online reviews of various locations in the Tacoma area. Most every U-Haul store had numerous reviews that were less than complementary. I found that the negative reviews for both Pacific Avenue locations to be totally undeserved.
