It was an extremely busy weekend to move and a truck rental was difficult to come by. The manager gave us several options for different days. We rented a 20' truck using the corporate phone number. When we were called to confirm our rental, we were told there would not be a 20' truck, only a 26' truck. The lady at corporate told me there was a 20' truck available, but the West Lafayette locations could not "see" this on their end. While the manager gave us the same price, the truck was huge and intimidating for me to drive! The brakes needed work.

Screaming U-Haul Attendant: The attendant who helped me was very upset that I exited my vehicle to inspect the trailer prior to hooking it up. I was justified in my actions as the trailer frame was extremely rusty and I wanted to ensure the quality of tires as I had a 10 hour trip. Following a vocal yelling match where I stated that I was merely inspecting the U-haul trailer, the attendant said that he didn't have to "fucking" rent to me and stormed off, requiring me to attach the trailer on my own. This is highly unacceptable and reflects very poorly on this location and employee.

The rental rate you gave me was thirty dollars. For some reason (no reason at all given by you), the rental charge was sixty dollars -- double the rate. There is no single customer experience worse than being told one rate...and then being charged literally double that rate. I am not counting gas or insurance. This is atrocious and insulting. I am absolutely furious right now.

The location & equipment were fine, the staff was very helpful, but.... I placed my order for a 26' feet on June 22nd but was notified the day prior to my move that it wouldn't be available. I was given a 15' foot truck with access to a 6x8 trailer, but couldn't take it as my wiring wouldn't work. So I ended up with 60% of the intended moving capacity which caused me more trips, which caused me to pay more for mileage. I understand that there are certain trucks designated for in-town use and those for longer one-way trips, but the facility had 4-6 larger trucks sitting there, that didn't move over the 24 hour period I had my move, that could have been utilized. I feel that the way things were done was unfair to me since I placed a reservation in a week before my move and wasn't fulfilled. These leaves me unhappy with the experience, but was pleased with the performance of the staff at the facility.

Customer service was terrible. I walked in and felt like I was interrupting. During the paperwork he was annoyed if I asked questions. Simply sign and initial. Now. When I finally got the vehicle the man at the counter pointed at it from his desk and proceeded to make his coffee. No explanations as to how the returns go or the after hours process. I had to call the national number to get proper instructions. I understand that college students are hired but it was also quite a bit that I paid for a one day rental. I would rather not feel like I'm a bother.

I have had problems with Uhaul in the past but this experience has by far been the worst! I reserved a truck a month in advance and as always needed for 24 hours. I arrived to pick up the truck and was told I only had it for 10 hours! After standing there for 20 minutes while the employee gave a whole speech about availability and telling me the next person who needed the truck needed it by early the next morning and they could have it for 24 hours I was quite furious! I went ahead and took the truck. I then called the corporate office and got my truck for the allotted 24 hours which I had reserved. Hopefully, these reviews get read and they improve upon there flawed reservation process and customer service.

It was quite irritating to call the West Lafayette location and get a call center not a local person. That caused several problems and was not professional!!!!!! So I had to drive to the location to straighten the mess out!!!!

The location was fine, but the personnel was not very friendly. Admittedly, we showed up a few minutes after they closed, but the door was open and the lights were on. All we wanted to do was explain that the doors didn't open from the outside, but the guy was not very friendly, so it was kind of annoying since we were just trying to help him out.

I had originally wanted to start from this location, but was redirected to the Farabee location for some reason. I was thus unaware that the Farabee location was only open from 8-9 AM and I was planning on starting my move around 10 AM due to my schedule. I therefore missed my pickup from that location and was told someone would be in touch regarding a new location. I was never called until about 2:30 PM in the afternoon (which would have been way too late for my move). I even called the scheduling center myself around 9:45 AM and they said they were working on it and would call me soon, which again, did not actually happen until late afternoon. Luckily, the Sagamore location which I originally wanted to leave from because I knew they were open all day, had an extra truck the size that I needed. The staff was very helpful in getting me on my way and moving at the time that I needed to move. Everything worked out, but it could have been a major moving disaster for me if they had not had an extra vehicle. I would appreciate UHAUL not moving my requested pickup/drop off locations in future, because I pick those locations for specific reasons (aka I need a specific pick up time).

When I returned the equipment I inquired about a partial refund since we returned it a day early. He was not willing to look up the dollar figure and I still have no detail or confirmation of the amount I was refunded. He told me that I would get a refund for whatever the day rate was. I don't know what the day rate was since I did a one way rental. I am very unhappy with my experience.
