My recent attempt to rent a truck from uhaul was terrible. It's probably the worst experience I've had with any business in my life, and I won't use Uhaul ever again because of it. I'd reserved a 17' truck for an apartment move, and arrived 30 minutes late to pick it up. No one called me or told me that I had to be there at the exact time. When I arrived, my truck had been given away, and I was told that no other trucks would be available for the next 4 days. I had to move my entire apartment using my own car, over 48 hours. I'd rather pay 10x the price than give you creeps another dollar.

The only thing is the 26' truck could use some upkeep and it sounded like it was stuggling at time.

My only issue is when I called to book the truck I told him I could not return it until Saturday at 5 o'clock. On Saturday around noon time I started receiving calls from the Middlesex Street U-Haul location telling me I had to have the truck back about noon time

Overall, I have always been very happy with Uhaul. The representatives at the Wilmington, MA store are very pleasant and helpful. The only suggestion would be to have more representatives upon check in/check out. With ALL the representative needs to be sure to go over with each individual person, the store would benefit with more coverage. When your moving, you just want to get in and out. (It took the person in front of me 45 minutes to get checked out.) Thank you!

Reserved a 26 foot truck and got a confirmation of a pick up location. Arrived at the location the day of only to be told to go to another location. Went to the new location, received a 17 foot truck with 5/16th of a tank of gas. Truck supplied was one of the ones "to be sold" and was loud, smelly, poor brakes, e-brake buzzer ran the entire time and the interior was torn to shreds. All of this - other than the reservation - was excusable given the busy weekend. I could get over that. What I could not get over was when I return the truck and was charged $68 for re-fueling. Based upon the "estimated refill level" of the truck, I put in 1 gallon more than what was recommended and then drove 1/8 of a mile to return the truck. I drove 45 miles that day, received on 5/16 of tank, filled up when the needle was on the lower side of the 1/4 of a tank marker, and added 5 gallons of gas to the recommendation of the contract sheet and I could not confirm that it was 5/16 of a tank because the truck only had 1/4 gallon markers on the gauge. Add to this when I went to return the truck there was one employee checking in the units and he was on his cell phone explaining (assumptive to another employee) that they "lost tools, didn't have a scanner, and no-one could find them". He had two units he was checking back in, and mine was the third. He said, "it's ok buddy, leave the keys and I will take care of it". At this point I said, "do you want to check the gas gauge before I leave" and he said, "No. You should be all set". I admit I did receive a call about 1 hour later that I was not able to answer, but no message was left and when I called back an hour later there was nothing but an automated system to answer. To clarify the situation, I went back in the next morning with my contract, a receipt for the gas, and an explanation that I used the guide from the contract to replace the fuel upon the recommended fueling level. I was simply told, "you should have put in 7 gallons". To which I replied, "if that's the case, why did you not put in only 2 extra gallons instead of charging me for 8?". It was then that the manager stated he could refund me the $30 refueling charge but I would have to pay the $36 for the gas. Now the math comes into play. The tank is 37 gallons according to the paperwork. They charged me for 8 gallons and the $30 fee to refuel. The manager found the final return slip after refueling and it stated it had 1/2 of a tank after adding the 8 gallons. I also asked what the average MPG is and he stated 6 (hence his statement I should have put 7 gallons in if I went 45 miles). At a 37 gallon capacity, the range of the truck is 222 miles. By driving 45 miles that day I used 0.202703 % of the fuel capacity or 1/5 of a tank (7.4 gallons). I then put in 5 gallons - or 13.51% of the fuel tank capacity. Where the oddity comes in though is if the employee put in only 8 gallons to bring it back to 1/2 o

Since it was such a busy weekend it might have been good to have an extra person checking people in, but the service was friendly, courteous and efficient. I had to call U-Haul roadside assistance because in unloading the truck I apparently left the keys in and it automatically locked. Not fun when we were almost done, but after some struggles because of how secure the cargo van was, the gentleman did get us in and we were able to finish up. Good thing I had my cell phone in my pocket! No internet at the new place we were getting in to and my daughter's phone was not charged. Great van to drive, surprisingly good for packing.

They did not have the 6 x 12 I ordered. In fact, after being on the phone with customer service last week for 30 minutes, and them confirming my order, Wilmington still had NO idea I was coming until they checked the system. I was 1 of three, THREE people there in the matter of 20 minutes, who's uhauls weren't there and simply couldn't be helped, on a day we needed help the most. I would not recommended Uhal to anyone.

I think you should get rid of the cameras you have posted everywhere. It doesn't seem like you trust your employees and it made me feel uncomfortable. Not a good work environment.

The truck we got had 185,000 miles on and had major issues getting it started every time, additionally the safety break alarm system was a problem as it made this tremendous noise every time you tried to start the truck. The van was however very clean and once it started performed well.

A woman clicked on her computer while we stood in front of her for five minutes. She never even acknowledged our existence. A man came in and finally helped us. He was very nice and helpful. We had to vacuum the truck before we packed it. We were charged an extra day because we were 20 minutes late. We were also double charged for a bag of furniture pads. Since they always seemed so distracted and busy, I couldn't be bothered to straighten it out.

Very unhappy about my receipt or should I say lack of receipt when I dropped off the van. I am still waiting to get my receipt for the rental and all I get for an answer is that it has not been processed yet and will be emailed to you when it is.

When I reserved my U-Haul, I reserved a 9' cargo van. Several of the locations in the area did not have cargo vans available for a trip from Boston to New York, so I reserved at the closest one that seemed to. However, when I arrived to pick up the van I learned from store personnel that apparently cargo vans are not allowed to leave the state. No one told me this at any point during my rental process, and I was extremely frustrated that it was assumed that I would be okay driving a 10' moving truck instead of a cargo van when that is not the equipment I reserved. I know u-haul never guarantees that you'll get the equipment you reserve, but frankly this is an unacceptable policy. Someone either at corporate or at the reservation location should manage the upcoming reservations far enough in advance to be able to guarantee certain equipment. Also, if cargo vans are not allowed to go out of state then I should not have been able to reserve a cargo van for an out-of-state trip in the first place. And on top of that why are cargo vans not allowed out of the state? I was never given any reasoning other than "that's the rule." I didn't want to drive a 10' moving truck 250 miles when I was only moving a couch and wanted to drive a vehicle that was more like a car and less like a truck. This seems like a useless policy to me. On top of this reservation frustration, there were only two people working at the u-haul the morning I picked up, and only one of them was working the desk. I stood in line for an hour and a half before I was helped. A very frustrating experience that might deter me from reserving a u-haul in the future.

Move vehicles down to the city especially at this time of year. Years ago there was people that did just that. Moved vehicles to places that needed them most.

The on-line reservation process was a little confusing. I attempted to rent a 4 x 7 trailer but received a confirmation for a 5 x 8. It all worked out OK in the end. The person who took care of my rental was extremely nice and very helpful. This was my first ever experience with U-Haul and I was very pleased!

Truck was brand new and there was no operators manual, Not a big deal, but there were some switches I did not know what they were for. Also mirrors were not easily adjustable, and were not set correctly.
