Employees were not well-empowered. The equipment I booked was not available (seemingly central dispatch's fault, not the location's), but it took a lot of calls to other people (GM? central?) to get me on my way. I was there for about 45 minutes for a simple pick-up. Nate (Assistant Manager) was courteous and wanted to help--let him make decisions to move things along!

The cargo van assigned to me had three issues: 1- The Car Door Rubber Seal on the cargo side door was coming apart. 2- The Cargo side door was jammed and required extra pulling and pushing to open and close. 3-1- The Car Door Rubber Seal on the Back Door was also coming apart.

This facility was very accommodating consideration our situation. The manager (Luree) for that facility had our storage space was cleaned prior our arrival. Although she was on her way out the door, she made sure one of her employees would take me around to view the space prior cosigning a contract. When we got back she asked if we wanted the space and again welcomed us to Uhaul Woodside. We were also well taken care of by Vera. She explained our contract thoroughly with us, should us how to access the building and also informed us of managing our account online. Everyone include those who receive the vehicles were very friendly and helpful. Luree has a great team who seem to work well under pressure because for the short space of time there were so many people in line awaiting service but they manage to take care of all their customer needs in a courteous and timely manner.

I normally have great experiences at this location however, this visit the lady who checked me out was not personable at all and did not communicate with me on much at all. She made it seem like I was more of an inconvenience to her rather than a paying customer. Also, the gentleman who gave me the vehicle did not go through with me on the gas meaning I ended up having to pay more money in gas because they had it marked wrong on the paperwork compared with what was actually in the vehicle. But because he didn't show me the fuel level I didn't realize this until I was on the road and I needed to hurry to get things done. I hope that the next time I rent from here it's like the last two times I rented from here. Normally it's great but this time I was very disappointed.

Customer service reps were not very nice. The truck was ready but they couldn't find furniture pads that I had reserved. They acted like I was inconveniencing them.

Why this location provides U-boxes, I'll never know. When you reserve one online the website says that they'll deliver the box to you and pick it up for you and deliver it wherever you want it to go. This is a lie. If you want these things done, you have to hire movers via Moving Help. However, not all of these movers are equipped to haul a U-Box AND there are no phone numbers provided for you to call and speak with someone before hiring them. It's a racket. Aside from the website containing false information, the U-Boxes themselves are shoddy. When I finally arranged to empty my box (I had to drive from MD to NY to pick up my stuff because they couldn't deliver it and hiring movers was too expensive), there was a patch at the bottom where a forklift had pierced through and the lock had been ripped off. I didn't even get my lock back. Fortunately, none of my belongings were damaged or missing. (The movers damaged a vintage dining table but that's their fault, not Uhaul's.) When I looked around at all the other U-boxes, they were in similar or worse condition than mine. It was appalling. Maybe don't making them out of plywood? Just a thought. Finally, there's the Woodside store itself. I don't even know where to begin. Communication is severely lacking. While they were all perfectly nice, none of them knew anything about their job. I had my U-Box in storage for several months and in the first month, I had several phone calls asking when I was going to pick it up or have it delivered...even though I told them several times that it was in storage until further notice. Then, when I finally needed to retrieve my belongings, I couldn't get anyone on the phone to talk to me about it. They kept taking my number and never calling me back. Not knowing I needed to hire movers in order for my stuff to be delivered in MD, I was trying to get a price quote for the shipment, which I got a month later. And, the quote was bogus because they don't even ship the boxes. All-in-all, it took me a month and a half to get my stuff because no one was communicating with me. Apparently, everything is done online, they said, so if a customer needs to speak with a human then good luck. I will never deal with U-boxes again. And, if I can help it, I'll never deal with Uhaul.

None of the staff knew what they were doing apart from the manager. I was told my irish passport wouldn't work even though I've used it before so I told her to cancel the reservation. I then showed the member of staff that their website states it does except irish driving licenses. At this stage the member of staff had cancelled my reservation and we had to go through the booking all over again which also took a while as the member of staff didn't seem to know what they were doing. I finally got my key and went off. Van was in great condition and was exactly what I needed. After I was finished I dropped off the van and again the staff slowed me down. I was told I was being charged $30 for gas when I only travelled 6 miles. I then went inside to the office to explain and after another long wait I finally got charged the correct amount. All and all the vans completely serve their purpose for a good price but the staff were very slow and unskillful.

I didn't realize this location had an after-hours dropoff. So when I arrived at 5 minutes after 7 p.m. closing, I was worried they weren't going to check truck in. It would have eased my mind to be informed ahead of time about the dropoff in case my job ran long, which it did. Otherwise, they were very nice and service was good. Thank you.

I found several things to be less than ideal with my recent U-Haul experience. 1. I made the reservation online by using my debit card, so I did not think I would need to bring the same card the day of the U-Haul pickup since it would already be on file and nothing in my confirmation email said it was necessary to bring. Upon arriving I was told I need to have a debit/credit card to pick up the van, however, I only had cash. Thankfully my friend who came to help let me borrow his card, but I was disappointed to find out that there would be a temporary hold placed on his card despite being told I could pay with cash upon returning the van. 2. After getting the key to the van I was told to go outside and stand under the green awning and that someone would help me there. The employee offered no other direction and was not helpful when I tried to ask more. I waited for 5 minutes outside under the awning but no one was to be seen. I eventually had to physically run after an employee that finally walked by us (without even glancing at us or asking if we were being helped). He seemed almost annoyed I was asking him a question. Then when he walked over to the van I reserved (which I found on my own by matching the number on the van to the number on the keychain), all he did was start the van and said we could go. 3. I was never informed of a time the van had to be returned by, although I remember from the reservation process online that I saw something about 4 hours being the average rental time. After a few hours into the rental, I began to wonder how long I was able to keep the van for, since my move was taking longer than anticipated. I read over the contract (which the employee who gave it to me did not go over briefly with me) and saw that it had to be returned by 5pm, even though I had picked it up at 1:30pm which would make it less than 4 hours. 4. Upon arriving to return the van, I could not even pull into the parking lot due to poor parking of other U-Haul vehicles, so I had to park next door in order to get off the highway. Once again I had to track someone down because no one was around to help me. The employee then informed me that I could not pay with cash, as I had planned on doing and had told the initial employee when I received the keys, unless I had the exact amount because the registers were already closed out for the day (I was never told that the location closed at 5pm that day prior to that point). I only had a $100 bill and the total was about $30, so exact change was not an option. The employee said I could leave the extra money and pick up the change the following day. This made me feel extremely uneasy and unsafe, which is why I refused to do that. The location also was not convenient to get to and I didn't believe I should have to make an extra trip back when I was never told about needing exact cash when I told the first employee I would be paying in cash.
