Helpful Moving Tips for Relocating to Alexandria, VA

Moving to a new city can be quite overwhelming, especially when you don’t know the roads. With 5 locations within the city, we are here to guide and assist you with your move for an effortless moving experience.

  • Busy Neighborhoods – If you decide to live in the West End, the city's most residential district, be aware of the winding roads and cul-de-sacs along the way. If you decide to live in Del Ray, the area is the home of many local shops, restaurants and events, such as the Arts on the Avenue Festival. It’s a very walkable area with a great urban feel. However, driving around the area may leave you stuck in traffic or navigating through a detour. With our professional and experienced Moving Helpers ®, you can overcome this problem and have them transport your belongings to make things much easier.
  • The Right Alexandria – It can be a bit confusing, but Alexandria is separated in two. Just south of the city, there is a portion of land under the Fairfax County jurisdiction named Alexandria; it is separate from the actual city itself. To minimize confusion, locals often refer to this area as South Alexandria or Alexandria, Fairfax County, while referring to the city as Alexandria City or the City of Alexandria. Don’t get confused and make sure to deal with all legal proceedings under the correct county jurisdiction.
  • Know Your Address – Another unique aspect of Alexandria is its address system. Since the city is a compilation of what were once many small towns, the addresses are not uniform. For example, in Old Town Alexandria, buildings are addressed north and south from King St., but in areas such as Del Ray, building addresses go east and west from Commonwealth Ave. and north from King St. Be sure to check out the roads and addresses ahead of time to avoid getting lost in the city.
  • Four Seasons – Alexandria has all four seasons. On average, the highs rarely exceed 90°F and the lows rarely drop lower than freezing. Although this may seem nice, the subtropical climate means the summer weather typically feels very hot and humid. If you have to move during summer, do not forget to have some water with you to avoid dehydration. Another option is to hire use our U-Box® containers; you’ll be able to load and unload your belongings at your leisure, and take a break when things get a little too hot.
