Pick up location and time was changed multiple times by Uhaul. Trailer was not available as promised.
It was difficult to fuel the van, I used the Arco one block away and it continued to switch off due to back pressure.

Wasn't informed on the charges as for insurance, dollie and pad charges were daily. Got charged $17 for fuel when i returned it around the same amount as i got it.
They did not allow me to unload the car from the car transport system, neither they offered help. They just asked me to do it off their premises as they did not have enough space!
be careful w/ directions this one is @ mesa drive it is easy to mix up with the storage at del mar/fair dr!!!

The van I rented was clean, but the "Change Oil" and "Tire Pressure" indicators were on while I was driving it.

I am very disappointed in your labor service. I ordered help through the website, and you guys charged me $150 but then couldn't provide the help. I have not received a refund or any response to my emails. I want a refund, and I'm very unhappy though your truck was fine and the service at the location was excellent, you guys stole my money!

I have rented from you before and been very happy so when it came time to rent a truck I called your location. When driving the truck the alignment was so bad I was having to fight to keep going straight in the lane on the freeway. Now I do drive a large truck and have driven many moving trucks but there is definitely something wrong with this truck. When I returned it the guy who checked me in looked at me and grinned when I told him about it. He made me feel like oh its a woman so she can't drive a truck. When I explained to him what was going on he was unsympathetic and it wasn't until I said it the 3rd time that he said he would have it checked. But still with a condoning attitude. Just really left a sour taste in my mouth. Not very good customer service. I still don't feel like you checked it and if that's the way you treat your customers and your vehicles I will rent elsewhere from now on.

Rip off. Overcharged for gas. Plus added cost of doley we weren't told about beforehand. We removed it to make room but did not use, but were charged. We will not be using you again.

reserved a truck and trailer two weeks prior to move. checked several days in advance with no problems reported. I picked up the truck that morning and paid to have it loaded. I was told over the phone 30 min prior to picking up the trailer, they did not have a trailer for me and I would have to go to another location to pick it up. Both locations were closing 30 min after I was informed of this. The Costa Mesa location offered nothing in the way of suggestions or help. I was left to resolve the problem of calling the other location and begging them to stay open an extra 10 mins so I could make it to their location. Very poor customer service.
the vehicle was a little beaten up and less than the standard of vehicles that i usually get. the passenger mirrors would not adjust correctly to get a decent view of the road. Service and everything else was great as usual. keep up the great work!
This was the best uhaul experience I have had. The team was on it and the check in and check out was quick and easy. Efficient, efficient and personable. Perfect experience. Great job.

Poor service from the technician hooking up the trailer. Assumed we knew everything. Couldn't answer questions.
Reserved and confirmed a 4x8 trailer. Ended up with 5x8 which had a higher profile resulting in more weight and wind resistence. I drove 20 miles out of my way to get the right trailer and at no time did anyone inform the trailer was not available. Don't assume this is what the customer wants. I absolutely would NOT recommend this location. I expect open and honest communication.
I will be calling UHaul for a credit based on the loss of mileage which is UHaul's fault.
The location of the original registration (949 Storage) was not staffed, so I wasn't able to get my truck there at the time I had anticipated. I greatly appreciated how the Newport Blvd location stretched to accommodate getting a truck for me to move in a timely way.
Your reservation process is less desirable, reliable, and inffective.
I made 3 cust, serv. Inquiries to locate my reserved cargo van.
One locatio, was closed, the other was a storage facility that had no vehicles, and the third provided me with a filthy vehicle. UHaul has dropped in its reputation.
Operators were efficient and friendly.

Customer service was great...very fast! The van was dirty on the outside and difficult to see out the windows, but it drove beautifully and handled really well. It held a ton of stuff...much more than I had envisioned. I'll be renting another van tomorrow...thank you!
I wouldn't say my experience was good enough that I would recommend it to a friend. Moving is stressful, and for some reason there is always a problem. We had that with Uhal, and it was expensive. You should think of doing a first time deal for customers that use your services.
Next time the cashier should be more clear. They told me they were putting a deposit on my card for double what the estimated cost should be. That is standard issue in my experience. However, what isn't standard is that they actually charged my card the estimated amount. To me this is unprofessional. It says they are going to issue a refund but it isn't in my account nor is it pending. I'm sure that it will be find but I think the cashier should be more clear and I don't think it's ethical to charge my card a deposit more than DOUBLE my estimated cost.
Online booking was somewhat confusing and not correct as to whether equipment was available. Calling is best, very helpful on the phone and during checkout time for the truck I rented.
I just wanted to say, you guys have really stepped it up at this location. I've used you several times over the past 5 years. The staff was very friendly, the drop off was quick and efficient. I would absolutely use you and recommend to friends.
Hi I wanted to ask when II rented a truck this past weekend I was asked howmany miles i would go. From your costa mesa location to Laguna Beach is 15 miles one way. The tech who put the information in only did one way it was a total of 30 mile when i spoketo the tech who supplied this information he said he would change the miles to 30. Unfortunately when i returned the truck it was not changed. Can you please change the miles to a total of 30 and refund my credit card? The guy serving me at the counter was EXCELLENT! Very knowledgeable, helpful and had a good sense of humor. I only wish I had taken note of his name, so I could tell you what a greta job he did.
The reservation person was very clear and helpful, the on-site uhaul staff were really helpful, and the delivery and pickup was seamless.
Pretty disappointed in the final bill. I wasn't made aware of a DAILY charge for equipment rental. Was told it was a flat fee. Felt duped so likely won't rent again.
I had reserved online the night before which included an appliance dolly. When I went to pick up the truck, the person who pulled up my reservation did not have my appliance dolly on the contract. I did not notice it until I was about to drive away the truck and happened to check the back of the truck. I went back to confirm why he did not put the dolly on the truck which I had reserved online. The attendant said that his reservation did not have the dolly on his list. But my online reservation clearly had the appliance dolly in it. I politely asked the attendant that Uhaul has a policy that if I do not receive the equipment which i had reserved then uhaul should give me back $50. The attendant did not pay any heed to that and just argued with me and made another contract and added the dolly to it. This clearly signifies that either the online reservation is just a gimmick or they dont care about it. Very bad experience as argument is the last thing you want on a hectic moving day!! will not recommend this location to any of my friends/ colleagues.
A miscommunication on amount of mile overage. When discussed customer service was horrible. When I informed I called to verify amount/mile overage .40/mile over I was told nope that's incorrect. No discussion or even attempt to help to resolve issue. I was upset since this move was not a choice and was emotional and money was tight. Just upsetting that customer service is no longer given or even attempted. Will never use Uhaul or refer again.
Rented a 10ft. Truck and the passenger side was covered in bird poop. Was not pleased with this, thought it would have been taken care of before it was rented out.
I felt attacked by the day workers at the entrance to the business. I had to stop my car from driving they were on the drivers windows two to three men , the passager and in front of the car . When I finnally was able to get into the business parking lot, on the oppisite side and as far away as I could get from the entrance, three of the men followed the car in and would not leave me alone untill I was out of the car and on may way to the office. When I complained to the worker i was told they could do nothing about them they were not on the uhaul propertery , but they were espically when i was followed to the parking lot. Then when i returned the truck the same thing happened in the car that was giving me a ride home. It is a huge problem.
Other than this problem the uhual service was great. I feel it is dangerous with the day worker, I felt acosted.
Nothing, I use this location on a somewhat regular basis, couple times a month, and they are always courteous, efficient, and the equipment is always clean.
Truck cab was filthy with food chunks and crumbs. Also, had a really bad odor. To top that off, I left a nearly new furniture dolly in the back and forgot to pull it out. Called back the next day and was told sorry, nothing found. I think his name was Tim, when I pressed him a little he sounded ticked off. No contrition, no sorry sir, no offer to look again. Total BS. I'll find another place to rent from next time!

They started off with getting the wrong address, a lady hung up on me when I called customer service. Was not happy with this experience.
People were friendly and helpful. It was difficult to find the key return after hours though. Maybe some larger signs would help.
Went well, just needed a truck to deliver some large wardrobe boxes that would not fit in my car. Pricing on the boxes was excellent also.

I`m still waiting on almost $500 in refunds to be sent back to me for charges that never should have happened. Also, the same glitch has since scheduled another box for me, without my permission
Made a reservation a month in advance to prevent any mishaps, the named location said a call one day before the scheduled day would be from a local HB site. So on that day another city location called, but could not guarantee the 26' truck, hence a smaller 20' truck was supplied causing another pick up truck load because the truck was not available.
The worst Uhaul experience in all my years renting them. Although a newer Truck with approx 24K that ran very well, it was very dirty and smelly interior of cab. see opposite side comments.
I was given a vehicle with a cut gas line and my trip was delayed a full day due to awaiting a fix. Please have your renters turn on the vehicle previous to leaving and check internal valves. Awful experience.
I was very shocked that u-haul did not offer ANY type of discount opportunity for their customers. Not even AAA. I will not be using them again.

Great service all around. No complaints at all with U-Haul but I didn't really like all of the illegals hanging around at the street waving every time I drove into and out of the U-Haul parking lot. Just not very comfortable with the big group of guys hanging around there.

I just wanted to add that I was every bit as impressed with the staff at the U-Haul in downtown Anaheim (Anaheim Blvd) where I initially went to rent the truck and auto transport. Even though the Costa Mesa U-Haul was to be the place where I would pick up the equipment, the people at the Anaheim U-Haul were extremely friendly and helpful on my first visit there, and twice when I went back with some questions and to change the pick up date.
Don't have trucks with broken mirriors.
Inside Windows were filthy, trash on the floor.
When returning truck the guy receiving was a nice guy and personable

steering was loose-- I felt like I was always correcting to the right or left. Gas gauge seems to be broken. I requested an emailed receipt, but did not receive one.

As we drove up to drop off location there were about 7-8 men on corner of property trying to flag us down as if something had happened. It turns out these gentlemen were illegal immagrants and try to "help" you take your trailer off so that in turn you will pay them. I would not go to this location with my family or alone to pick up or drop off in future. It was alarming.

I was initially going to rent a U-Haul from the Long Beach location near my apartment. However, the couch that I was purchasing was in Costa Mesa, which is closer to the Newort location. I called customer service and asked if I could pick up the U-haul from the Newport location and then drop it back off in the Long Beach location once I have successfully transported my newly purchased couch as this is much more cost efficient for me. The response I received was "absolutely, no problem." the representative then proceeded to tell me that I would need to be transformed to someone else to set up the pickup/drop off details. Once transferred to the next representative, I was reassured that the difference in locations would not be a problem at all.
While on the way to the Newport location, I called the Uhaul location to be sure that they had my Uhaul ready for me and once again I asked if dropping off the u-haul to a different location would be a problem. This time, my representative seemed a bit confused/unsure but hesitantly said yes. This stressed me out because I had already cancelled my initial uhaul at the Long Beach location, drove half way to the Newport location, and made arrangements with the person I was purchasing the couch from. When arriving to the office I gave all of my information and was ready to take my U Haul...when the gentleman at the desk finished up my paperwork and handed me my key, I notice the drop off location was still set as the current Newport location. I informed the gentleman that my arrangement was set to drop off the truck at the Long Beach location. This gentlemen was completely confused, and there was no apparent note or anything set up for me to do this, when I had spoke to THREE people prior making sure this would be ok. To my dismay, he also mentions that this completely changes the rate and I would have to pay about $80 more!
You can imagine my frustration at this point, as the first three people I spoke to mentioned NOTHING about a higher rate and made it sound like this was a seamless job.
The manager made an exception for me because of the false expectations set by all the people I spoke to prior.
I appreciated this, but the lack of communication and unorganization made for a stressful and unsatisfactory experience.
9 am on Sunday was good for me but I could see an opening time of 8 as more reasonable.

One of the tie downs inside the cargo trailer was broken and unusable. Keep an eye on those small details.

Y'all were very friendly and helpful to us first-time moving vehicle renters! My dad used to manage a U-Haul so I grew up around the places, and this was one of the most clean and efficient stores I've seen.
The policy of charging what the customer "thinks" and then refunding the overage in 5-8 business days is very poor policy. The gal who did my transaction was a little too eager to overcharge me.

We reserved a truck at a different location (4881 Birch street) and had a horrible experience. We then came to this location and they were fantastic, in and out quickly when we informed we were under a deadline, etc. great staff!
Good staff. They were helpful. However the location was bit cramped. It was a nightmare trying to deliver my truck with the trailer I rented. I'm not an expert at driving like that. But it is what it is. Is not like there's a lot of room in California for companies like U-Haul to rent huge facilities.

When we arrived Costa Mesa Tuesday September 01,2015, approximately at 6 pm I contacted Costa Mesa U Haul location and asked for the drop off address because we did not have the drop off address from the pick up station in Dallas Texas, only had given a contact telehone number for Costa Mesa location. When we spoke to a lady on the phone she said we are going to send you an e-mail and a text message for the drop off location address.
I wonder why she count not given us the address right then on the phone?
But she never did give us any information. So around 11 pm I contacted you again through your 800 number received the drop off address.
Informing the customer that the ball mount will need to be purchased and cannot be rented at U-haul if they don't already have one would be helpful from an expectations point of view. Other than that, all of the personnel on site were friendly and helpful. Thank you again!

went to pick up my uhaul at 2059 harbor blvd costa mesa . The office was closed on monday 8/31/15 at 4:30pm. the office hours on the doors said they were open 9-6, but no one was at the door. i had to waste my time and drive to a different location to pick my uhaul that added extra miles to the amount i drove on the truck. i was upset about the organization of picking up the truck. i will not use your services in the future. please feel free to call me at 9499220383''

I had reserved a 26' truck but somehow I was in their computer as a 20' truck. Fortunately they had a 26' available, otherwise my move would have been a disaster.

This is my place to go for any kind of moving rental equipment from a dolly to a truck.
It is located on a one way street so my husband had to go around the block to enter it. Other than that, it was easy to reserve online, get and go. We were upgraded to a larger size for the cost of a 5 x 8 because we had a truck and 2 or 3 others wanted the same size. It worked out well for us. I already recommended this place to my friend who is moving next week.
We rented a truck on a Sunday afternoon and were allowed use for 24 hours. We intended to move everything into our UBox that evening by end of business day, but things took longer than expected and we called this UHaul location to ask if we could return the truck after business hours to finish loading the box same day. We were told that wouldn't be a problem, but when we arrived with the truck loaded up with our belongings, we found our UBox had been locked up behind closed doors. Of course I understand the policy of locking up things when business hours end, but why tell us that we would be able to load it? We ended up having to leave the next day when we had planned to leave that day, and our entire schedule was thrown off.

Every summer we rent a truck four times. The people and service have been outstanding.
All the people there were especially courteous and helpful. My pick up was quick and so was my drop off. within 15 minutes of arriving for pick-up, I was out the door. Within 15 minutes for drop off, I was also out the door. Great customer service.

Perhaps talk nicely to job seekers not to jump at arriving customers. Not used to driving rucks, so the people stepping out at me scare me. Could easily have hit some of them.
The guy was funny and made the process smooth.
The trailer swayed excessively while on the freeway. Very uncomfortable travel for everyone in vehicle. If my vehicle had not been a heavy Hummer H2 I probably could not have made the trip. Many cars passed by and tried to wave us that there was a problem.
The line at the front desk in the morning was kind of long. Very friendly crew though.

this location was good. the regional traffic office ended up costing me $1034.27 in the difference between my 26' truck that I had reserved over 3 weeks in advance that they didn't have. then they sent me to san jose in rush hour - costing me almost 4 hours of packing time and no truck available. had to rent from penske and with no notice (because of no uhaul truck) the rental was over $1000 more. the person on the phone offered me $50 for my "trouble" after telling me there was nothing he could do about it. This was overall, the worse customer service experience of my 47 years on this planet. I was hoping that for all the trouble caused you guys would give a repeat loyal customer a free 1-way 10 foot truck but offering $50 appears to be what I got (and then never verified i was getting it either). then - someone offered 200 off - but i haven't seen that, either. I will never use u haul again - and I will tell everyone I know for as long as I walk the earth what a miserable bunch of lying greedy non-empathetical people are employed at u haul. and if that stops 1 or 2 folks from renting 1-way trucks, it will cost you guys more than doing the right thing would have last week.
The problem with this location is that there are three other facilities along the same street named u-haul so it's very confusing finding the one that has the trailers for rent. There were three other customers, while I was there that had the same problem. I suggest you drive it and use the eyes of someone who has never been there and you will see the confusion of finding the place. Very, very, frustating.

I not familiar w that area so when I see U-Haul sign I feel that is where I could drop off trailer but it wasn't drop off spot just storage & boxes but how was I suppose to know that & the man there was not very helpful & since it is right next to freeway no room to turn around after some time I was able to head in right direction with no help from man at U-Haul spot
I say make drop off location more visual & non drop spots easy to see
1.Tim was rude to me. He must have been having a bad day because he was very abrasive.
2. There was 100 extra miles on our odometer. Luckily someone caught this before we left and radio-d inside to change the miles on our account. When we returned there was still the 100 extra miles. No one had changed our account. They resolved the issue eventually, but if we had not been diligent they would have charged us $80 extra.
3. We specifically asked multiple times to pay with cash, and that we did not want to pay with the credit card. Before taking the U-haul and when dropping it off. When we went to pay the guy said they had charged the card already.
Overall this was a bad experience. I understand that things go wrong by accident with the 100 extra miles and the credit card, but Tim's attitude was unacceptable. Honestly that is the reason I will never come back to this location and will avoid U-hauls in the future. When things go wrong, I realize sometimes there is no one to blame, but a Manager being rude to customers is bad for business.
Everything is good except the truck has a really bad smell.
An unusable padlock was chained to the gate. Had I known it was unusable I would have picked one up sooner, instead of after the truck was entirely filled. The old lock should be cut off.
Also, the copy of the ignition key was worn out. It would work okay one time, but I'd struggle to get it out of the ignition the next time.
Inside and exterior need a good wash job. Inside center console was sticky. Windshield was filthy.
Overall experience was good enough that I'd come back. Salesperson was very thorough in explaining things, options. Staff =10. Truck cleanliness=3.
Fantastic job. Thank you to EVERYONE who works at that location. I spoke to six different employees on various days; they were all courteous and informative. I was a little nervous about using a hitch and trailer on my Mitsubishi Eclipse to drive to Idaho, but your people made it happen!

The cargo area of the truck had not been swept out. We swept up a large pile of dirt and debris which included 3 big bolts/screws. I have had three different experiences with this particular rental facility, and this is the first time that has happened. Otherwise, I am quite impressed with this location.
Have the equipment that I asked for please
Forgetting to give customer their equipment before they leave, untrained personnel giving false information and an unwillingness to compensate customers for mistakes made by their employees amounts to a bad way to operate a business and the epitome of this location. At the least, when management or their employees make a mistake that inconveniences the customer or costs them money, they should be courteous and attempt to rectify the situation. This location appears to be incapable of doing either.
Everyone I spoke to was so helpful when I was caught in a stressful situation. I highly recommend this location.
Tim was rude from the beginning, he chased men off the property and told them to RUN! He tried to convince us to take a smaller truck when we clearly knew what we wanted and needed. He was very arrogant. He called many times threatening me. Terrible UHAUL rep as we rent often and know great operators like San Clemente on Puco location.

I would recommend it because it is close, but it was incredibly crowded in there. Hard to get the trailer where they wanted it.
Give customers better info about where they need to go when checking in for storage rentals. The address and phone number are for two different locations and are not clear for a customer, and will have them driving in circles just to get to both of these different locations. Also, better customer service when on the phone, attitude is not necessary and will drive people away.
Front Desk Staff, and Equipment team all did a great job.
The illegals in front are very aggressive, blocking the driveway and yelling. The location was also inconvenient especially this time of year with the fair going on. Need more parking spaces for customers. There was not a spot when I arrived or returned to drop off.

My overall u-box experience was poor, but that was due to the central U-haul Customer Service Team. Tim and the Costa Mesa Team were the heros in our experience.
I was very impressed with the movers on both ends of the trip. I could not have made this move without the friendly and great movers!
Terribly disappointed in all aspects of this transaction. Two big errors were made by the U-Haul Costa Mesa team which cost me a lot of time and money. Don`t use them.

I honestly thought that Climate controlled meant that that place HAS A/C running thru it.! Any chance of EVER air conditioning that storage facility? Lord knows we pay enough for it.

The light keeps going out in my storage unit and I have no control over it - makes it a little worrisome when I go by myself.

issue with the floors on 3rd floor..wheeling heavier objects the floor tilts forward and downward..should be addressed for smoother transition between levels
When I got to unit it had someone else`s stuff in it. called office, they didn`t help. decided to move stuff out. General Manager, Tim, chastised me about moving stuff out. unprofessional.
Uhaul failed miserably to live up to it`s promise of one month`s free storage with a one way rental. We rented three trucks and were refused 3 months of rentals, instead offered only one.
only two very small carts, third floor was extremely hot 120 F, we were forced to buy new locks when we already had 2 locks from UHaul they were not round

Every other storage facility I have used before turned out to be a nightmare. My opinion all changed because of Tim, the mgr. at UHaul
Everyone was super_ friendly, helpful, on-time. Great customer service. I could not have been more pleased. And the packing guys were magicians, polite, and fun.
The facility is very clean,carts were always available, and the lights worked well. I saw an attendant on the premises a few times that I was there which was reassuring.

Too many sketchy homeless hanging around inside and outside the gates waiting to enter with you or exit with you.
The person I dealt with was very helpful and professional.
I could not get the gate to open, returned my fob 3 times - none of the guys knew the exact procedure and didn`t care enough to figure it out!
I checked several storage places in the area and found this to be the best price and helpful and friendly staff.

1 box seemed barely road worthy. The other 5 were in great condition.
Attacked my illegal mexican workers attempting to get in and getting out of the location. Horrible. I will never go back there. Ended up at a competing facility that felt safe.
I think it is a poor customer service to not have a dumster especially at a storage facility. And then to charge customers if they need to dump trash.
Worst Uhaul experience ever! Staff was beyond rude, would not honor Uhaul box prices, charged me for wrong size box, wrong invoice, RUDE RUDE RUDE!!
Brandon Pearce Johnny Fackrell were friendly, accommodating willing to work with us at every obstacle we ran into. The customer service that was above beyond the norm.
The local delivery company did not deliver and i was charged and now going through refund process. I would line the boxes with something to keep the sawdust to a minimum.
The Costa Mesa store was great aside from mailing a key in a regular envelope but the receiving site was terrible.
good concept. coordination to setup using the u-box was horrible.
rented unit 406. main gate wouldn`t open. had to hand carry my stuff to unit, then storage door wouldn`t close. Uhaul rep treated me horribly. wont rent for 2 years now. will be moving out.

Estimated time of arrival to transport UBox from New York to California was inaccurate. Neither uhaul center could track boxes or give me an estimated time of arrival.

I`ve used u_haul several times in the past and think they provide great service. I was amazed this time at how fast my u-box arrived at it`s destination. Thank you u-haul for a great job.
There is a sign posted at the exit gate that states: You must sign out before you leave or access may be denied! Unfortunately the office door is locked and no one responds when you knock.
Rude customer service in trying to find out details in closing my account. The service elevator was closed when we tried to move out without warning or notice. Will not recommend.

Computers were down the first morning. Second time that has happened to me here. But staff helpful. We had 5 boxes they had to change out.

Manager was rude to me. I have been there the last 4 summers, probably won`t return.
all employees were very most notably Tim was thorough and thoughtful.
Door lock didn`t work and staff took a ho ur to charge my creidt card all the while the mangerTim at the costa mesa ands 55 fry was there but he was to busy talking to a freind to help..
The entire staff made moving and storing a very positive experience.
If there was an extremely poor box, I would have checked that. My issue is with the staff maintaining managing the facility.

Staff was rude. The keypad on the wall is a major inconvenience. We moved out of our unit and notified the manager or employees, they were unprepared and unprofessional in handling the situation.

In fairness, the facility had just recently been purchased and renovation was on going.
At times I wish the facilty not the office necessarily were open later.
Due to the poor management by the previous owners, I had many issues with this location.However I still was displeased with the customer service I received even after the unit was under new management

Difficult to maneuver a 26` truck within the confines of the storage area. Other than that the staff were extremely helpful and conscientious.
We used the facility for two months and it was a pleasant experience.

Had to be the middle man between uhaul renting and storage unit company in negotiating the pricing and space I was promised. I was promised a larger unit that what I was shown.
