My moving day was an absolute nightmare at the hands of Uhaul. I reserved a 9' cargo van on September 29th for pick-up on Tuesday, October 6th from your U-Haul Moving & Storage of South Philadelphia location. On Monday, October 5th, I received a voicemail from a representative named Charlene, who was calling to confirm my reservation. At no point during her voicemail did Charlene mention which location she was employed at. When I called back to confirm a pick-up time for the cargo van, Charlene still failed to mention that she was employed at a location that differed from the location I reserved my van for pick-up from. I confirmed an 11am pick up for Tuesday 10/6, and on Tuesday, woke up and drove 90 minutes to your 12th & Washington Ave. location in Philadelphia. Upon arrival, an employee told me that there were no 9' cargo vans for a one-way reservation at that location, and that my reservation showed that I was supposed to pick up the van from a location in Easton, Pennsylvania (my original moving destination, where I had just driven the 90 minutes from). Naturally, I was angry at yet another display of incompetence from Uhaul. I was told to call an 800 number to switch my reservation to a 10' box truck, which would be provided to me at the South Philadelphia location. I did so, and upon inspection of the 10' box truck the employee had allotted for me, I noticed a large puddle in the truck bed and a large hole in the truck bed's roof. I was then told that I must change my reservation again, and this time I was given a 14' box truck. This turned my entire day into an enormous strain, as I did not have a lot of items to move in the first place, and driving a large truck through South Philadelphia streets was incredibly strenuous. Not to mention the fact that the larger truck led to a more expensive highway toll and a higher cost to re-fuel upon completion of my move. Not once did any employee of the South Philadelphia location admit to any wrongdoing or apologize for the inconvenience. Even today, the day after my move when I spoke to the general manager of this location, I was led to believe that I was in the wrong for accepting the 14' box truck instead of going out of my way to find a location where a 9' cargo van was available. I was also told your $50 reservation guarantee was not applicable for such an issue, which I find absolutely infuriating. Yet another corporation not taking blame for their own gross errors. Your representatives at the South Philadelphia location are incompetent, rude, and do not understand the concept of customer service. I demand to be reimbursed the $50 for this botched reservation and also to be repaid $20 for my inflated gas costs. I will be sure to relay this experience to all of my friends and family when they are thinking of Uhaul for their "moving and storage resource."
