fire the guy behind the counter ... rental broke down on day two of three day rental. Had to escorte the vehicle techs to my house (in my own truck) during rush hour traffic in Halifax (if that ain't stress enough .. Halifax rush hr. traffic). Thought going to my pick-up location to state the condition of my rental vice calling the 1-800 # would be quicker to resolove my condundrum, boy was I wrong. I presented my contract to the guy behind the counter and 'tired' explaining the situation @ hand. Felt like I was at the Spanish Inquisition, he circled the 1-800 # on the sleeve of my contract folder & said I should have called 1-800 # vice coming into the uhaul location. So sorry for the inconvenience ... The vehicle techs cut the alternator belt to get the rental going & were only able to drive about 5K before they had to abandon the vehicle on the side of the highway. The guy behind the counter was trying to charge me an additonal 300$ + before the issue was resolved. I used my debit to put the deposit on the lame vehicle, thank fack. Piss on you and piss on the guy behind the counter. Do I feel like UHaul should reimburse me the cost of this rental .. hell yeah!

when taking the vehicle back there was a long line up with 2 guys working and 1 service rep was having an issue with his customer so really it was 1 guy trying to serve 4-5 people. perhaps a better system on-line wtih remote machines to do the checking of trucks back in outside vs inside.

The service was slow - the location appeared under-staffed for a busy Saturday in a peak moving season. Also, I feel that I was gouged on gas. The visual estimation of the fuel levels leaves a lot to be desired. I ended up driving only 7 miles total in the vehicle, but had to pay for $9 in gas because the check-out estimate of the fuel gauge differed from the check-in estimate. From my perspective, the needle hadn't moved at all.

While I found your equipment excellent & your representatives knowledgeable & courteous, the wait time to pick up a vehicle is unacceptable. I rented a van for the weekend on May 16th & stood in line for more than an hour and a half to pick it up because there were only 2 people at the desk area (that could handle 4 people) on a very busy Saturday morning. When I left there were more than 20 people in line & fighting had started to break out. On May 24th I also rented a van & had to wait another 35 minutes - again there were only 2 people to serve the many. If you folks want to be thought of as a world-class rental business - this should be dealt with - and sooner than later. For that reason I would hesitate to recommend this location - especially for a Saturday morning pick-up.

The whole administrative process is very inefficient. When I arrived on Saturday morning there was a line-up to the door and only 2 agents. It took me almost an hour to get to the front. I then had to go and hook the trailer I rented, after which I had to return and again stand in line for another hour to complete the paperwork, which by itself took forever; having completed the online registration did not speed it up at all. Everyone in line was getting frustrated by this process; we all have only the weekend to do what we intend to do with the U-Haul equipment and to have 2 hours of a Saturday morning wasted like that is just a shame. Registration can easily be streamlined in ways similar to self check-in at airports. Or else have more assistants during peak hours, especially on Friday evenings and over weekends.

There was an excessively long wait to pick up yesterday. I waited in line almost an hour. It would seem to me that when that many booking are taken staffing levels need adjusting. Or, perhaps different cashiers to handle drop offs and storage rentals vs truck, van or trailer rentals.

Ia nAT there at least 10 times a year and the last two weekends I was there the employees that are there on saturday are worked to death and everyone is running around frantically. I waited in a line for an hour and a half just to get to the front counter. If that was my business I would make sure there was at least double the amount of people working there on the busy days . When I left the line up was out the door . Very poor set up

The line up was back to the door. The location was booked solid as I was told that when I booked my van; so instead of ensuring enough staff was on hand, there was only two staff on the front counter for the first 15 minutes of my wait, then another one showed up into the 20 minute wait time, that at last a forth - very poor customer service having to wait 1/2 to check out

I arrived at 11 am to pick up my trailer rental and there was a very long line and only 2 people working the desk. It took me over an hour to get through the line and on my way. This is far too long and rather poor customer service! They seem to be very understaffed here. I think part of the wait issue is that it seems the software program used to pull up the reservations is tedious and difficult to navigate. It would be a great benefit to uhaul to update its rental software package to something more user friendly. Possibly even look into developing a self help desk/checkout?

We were called numerous times to return the truck early, although we had it reserved for 2 days. That's very unprofessional. We worked hard to have the truck back by the end of one day, we absolutely no 'thanks' or discount. Next time, we will keep it for the time we booked and not kill ourselves trying to accommodate.

We booked 2 weeks ahead and were told there was only ONE 15' truck. A day or 2 before picking it up, I got a call with a super inconvenient pick up time (5pm) and after telling them that didn't work for us we were pretty much told our only other option was to call other uhaul locations for trucks/times, so I did. There were zero options in HRM. So we changed our moving plans to make it work. Day of the pick up I called early out of curiosity 3 hours before our pickup time. They said I could come get it any time...... they knew I wanted another pick up time, it would have been even average customer service to call and let me know one was there early. On top of that, there were MULTIPLE 15' trucks sitting there not being used when we arrived. We were not impressed. Unfortunately the other 3 truck companies we called so we could hopefully cancel our 5pm uhaul were already booked. In the future, they will be the ones I'm booking with in the beginning.

The front counter was great - however I had to go back inside because no one came to hand over the van and give us the dolly, and when we returned the van no one came over to the van, even though we stopped in the designated spot. Should be a system to tell the workers outside that some needs help.

Be wary of what is quoted online and what is in the paper contract when renting from this place. I had a online u-haul reservation that included round-trip mileage, but when I returned the vehicle they wanted to charge me for EXTRA mileage because the contract said only 30 miles (not kilometres even though we are in Canada). I had to escalate my concern in order to get this problem resolved, and in the end I did only pay for what I had in the online quote. My truck was poorly maintained, it had very poor brakes, when braking down hills going 80 km/h the whole truck was shaking uncontrollably. This is a safety hazard, I advised them of this when returning the vehicle. Please also note that high wait times can be expected when picking up your equipment in the morning, so arrive early. This is an OK place to rent a truck for a move, just be aware of what your signing for and maybe test the brakes going down a hill before loading it with your belongings.

Ensure uhauls are safe and not in disrepair before giving them to an inexperienced driver who expected to be getting at 14' truck not a 26' one. The truck would not even register how fast we were going on the high way at times. I was completely disgusted and terrified at the lack of care that was given for my safety. I have rented 4 times in the past 2 years from uhaul and I can tell you this will be my last and furthermore I will be telling everyone I can about my terrible experience. Customer safety should be a top priority and I feel like everyone dropped the ball on my rental. No one even called me to confirm ever I had to call myself. Terrible terrible service.

The person in charge of the Dartmouth location I personally find rude and abrupt. I inquired about changing my appliance dolly for a regular dolly and ended up getting called outside to get my vehicle transporter set up and left my dolly inside the shop. She puts my dolly back WITHOUT changing my contract, asking me to see if I still wanted it or to inform me that I no longer had it and proceeded to put it back with the other appliance dollys. Had I not gone back to get it I would have had an issue when getting to Sudbury because I would have been missing a dolly. I would only recommend using Uhaul in Dartmouth if your booking is done through the Maritime head office.

Had confirmation to pick up my U Haul trailer at a specific address, but when I arrived the trailer was not there and was told to travel to the main office in Dartmouth. This changed my schedule and reduced my time I had to use the trailer. I did return the trailer to the agreed destination when I made my reservation. I received a phone call later in the day suggesting I should have returned the trailer to the Dartmouth office. Do to my verbal arrangement with U Haul sales agent at time of booking, I returned the trailer to where I should have picked it up and do schedule I was unable to return to the Dartmouth store. I think U Haul should strive harder to have there products at the destination that's arranged at booking time. When customers rent your product, time would be of up most importance. Sales agents at the Dartmouth office where friendly and helpful. Thank you.

The only thing that I didn't like was, I reserved my truck online and when they sent me a message where and what time I wanted it, the time wasn't right and they didn't have that size truck for me. Got a much bigger one but I will say they gave it to me for the price of the smaller truck so this is why I continue to use your service. Will be again in July in NL. Thanks

Your online booking/reservation is a sham. Why would you confirm a reservation at a specific location when it can be changed on a whim without alerting you? For example, I booked well in advance (almost two months) at a location convenient for me only to have someone call me two days before my pickup to tell me the location had changed and not only that, whereas I had reserved a truck for 24hrs, I was informed that I could use one for 8 hours!!! WTF!!!?? Deeply deeply dissatisfied. After finding this out, I looked up my old booking confirmation (which apparently counts for nothing) and clicked through to the site, and there, lo and behold is the disclaimer "subject to availability". Well, what's the point of reserving at all if it's "subject to availability"? Luckily, when I arrived to pick up the 10' truck that I was only scheduled to have for 8 hours, I got a 'free upgrade' to a 17' truck which I was able to keep for 24 hours. I'm still imagining the insanity that would have ensued had I only been able to keep a truck for 8... how the hell did you know I wasn't driving 5 hours away to pick something up?? The staff at Windmill Road were courteous and helpful, but your online booking system is a sham.

The truck had not been swept from previous client and we had to clean it before using it. Upon returning the associate tried to say that we had not put enough fuel in and was 1/16 below what was in it when we left. They tried to charge $25 for that fee. I stated it was not low based on the miles traveled and fuel put in. After a few minutes the associate grabbed the paper and scribbled something on it while telling his coworker they would change it to the next customer.... Overall we got moved but their service was not very friendly.

Since I live in Halifax and don't own a car, the Windmill road location was a bit out of the way. But I rented my van in the morning (very last minute) and was able to pick it up right away. The staff was great so that made up for the inconvenience of my travel. Thanks!

They were really busy on Sunday morning, so it took us 45 minutes to get to through the lineup, but other than that everything went great! When we brought the trailer back to the yard, the guy in the yard was able to receive the trailer on his phone and send me a receipt to my email. It made the whole experience quick and easy. the prices were definitely good as well! I would recommend to others as long as you book ahead and prepare to wait in line for a pickup near the end of the month.

Good customer service - especially the yard guy who made the vehicle ready for us. And upon return he processed our paperwork from his phone and we were in and out. However there was no "walk around" inspection at either end of the experience - likely not a concern as it was missed at both ends! And the truck was in need of a wipe down on the inside as there were obvious coffee stains and dirt on the dash. All in all a good experience.

The line up was insane. I had a man butt to the front of the line and he was helped before me even after I had said I was next. There was at least 15 people ahead of me when I got there, I had to wait so he should have too. I booked my truck over 1 month before my moving date yet I still had to have a 26 foot truck compared to the 10 foot that i had wanted. I only needed the truck for one day however still charged for the 2 days. It was a very unpleasant experience and uhaul will be my last choice going forward. The uhaul was also double the price of other companies.

Trailer dimensions were as ordered but because of the door opening a queen bed would not fit inside as suggested. This was a definite inconveinience! The door opening size should be notted in the specs!!

I booked online with U-haul four days in advance and requested a 17 ft truck. When we arrived at pick up time the reservation they had was for a 15 ft, I showed him my confirmation and he could not explain. They did not have a 17 ft truck for us and offered us a 15 ft but it would need to be back first thing in the morning. This was no good for us as we needed to move first thing in the morning and would need the truck for the day. He then offered us a 15 ft for the morning for 2 hrs. Who moves in 2 hrs! We rented with the expectation that we could have the truck for 24 hrs. He said that's true but depends on other bookings. Web site did nospecify we had a time limit. I asked do you have a bigger truck than 15 ft that we could have, he said 26 but it would need to be back early as another customer would be expecting it. I said we are customers and we are standing here right now and I've been promised a truck that isn't here. I said that he should be more concerned with the customer in front of him. All he could do was blame the Web site and speak as if it was a separate entity. U-haul is U-haul Web site or store front it is the same. If there is a problem with the Web site as he claims then it needs to be fixed. I asked him about other U-haul outlets in the area and he said I would have to go check. I'm pretty sure if you have a company and it has fallen short for a customer you would want to do what you can to keep their business. I feel that he should have taken the time to make 2 phone calls and ask if one of U-hauls outlets had a truck for us. In the end we took a 26ft truck for the price of the 15ft. Wow $10 considering we now have to pay 20 percent more for gas in a bigger truck we did not need and our travel was more than 100km each way. Overall disappointed in the service from U-haul! This location had all the equipment I needed at a momments notice. Clean and effective equipment. Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable, especially yard staff who work with and clean the eequipment. Costumer service was good, despite long lines. My only recommendation would be to acknowledge costumers in lineup.

I was double-billed, then charges reversed incorrectly, then that was corrected, and now charged a completely different amount. Very unprofessional. I wish I never shared my Visa with them. I will never use uHaul again and recommend others to stay away.

Only thing I would highly recommend is that UHaul either equip each unit with a 4 plug flat to a 7 prong adapter or notify customer they are rquired ! I was told by phone I wouldn't require nothing however when I went to power up the trailer this is when I realized what was needed. I am an hour and half from UHaul where I picked up the truck and closest place that had one was Canadian Tire almost an hour away! That made for an hours driving with no lights ! Not good if I'd been stopped by the RCMP ! Other than that everything was great !

I ran into difficulty getting back on time as was dropping off recycling which took longer than expected due to large line up. Was roughly 1 1/2 hours late and charged for additional 24 hrs + insurance + dolly rental. Was in uhaul parking lot when called to see if I was returning. Essentially doubled the bill - no partial surcharges. Rented many times and before discussed/granted extension without surcharge prior to return. Not this time. Not very happy.

due to moving a long distance I ended up 2 hours over due for the return of the truck. I understood that I would have to pay the extended day cost as a penalty but to add more money for insurance I feel was not justified and the end result was I was charged 75 dollars which I feel was too much. In the future you should just charge the day and as the insurance was already paid for it didn't expire.

I think it should be made clear on the website that only certain locations will provide trucks - it advertises locations that were closer to me and then required me to pick it up and pay the mileage to drive it to and from Dartmouth. Other than that the service was great.

Reserved a truck two weeks in advance only to get a call from a uhaul rep the day before my big move saying we have no truck for you at this location or any of surrounding locations,but what we can do is rent you a local truck ...at more expense of course. I had to take the local truck due to moving obligations and returned the truck two hours late only to get charged another day rental, i spoke to one of your sales reps about this and he said there is nothing he could do...bullshit. I told him i want a credit for the extra fuel i put in the truck then and he said uhaul does not do this ,how surprising!!! So what the hell is a the reservation for ? I had booked people to help me that day that i move and uhaul does not have a truck for me even though i reserved it in advance. I am certainly not happy with uhaul and will spread the word to take your business with another truck rental company. I paid an extra day,more Km, more fuel because i could not pick up a truck where i booked it . Uhaul should have given me a break with something instead of a big money grab..overall very dissappointed

The truck has a low idle setting and thus the steering at low speeds was very heavy. Very efficient and knowledgeable crew. Excellent in connecting and directing for the trailer connections.

Trailers should be better cleaned and inspected. The first trailer I hooked up to my van had non-functioning wiring. The second trailer that I hooked up had good wiring but had a lot of rocks in the trailer bed.

The vehicle either had summer or all season tires, and it was snowing that day. There were several times at very low speeds where the van was almost uncontrollable. I will no longer rent from you during winter months if the trucks are not going to have winter tires. It is VERY dangerous to let people take unfamiliar, heavy vehicles out in poor winter conditions without proper tires. In fact, there wasn't even a snow brush / ice scraper in the truck.

Upgraded to a large Uhaul. All Season tires DO NOT WORK IN SNOW/ ICE CONDITIONS. We were stuck several times trying to get out of the storage facility in NB. If we had had to travel on icy/ snowy roads, it would have been very hazardous with this vehicle with all season tires.

Commit to reservations made on line for the vehicle that customer reserves and stop jerking them around and keep changing place of pick up and giving them a larger vehicle than what they need. I felt like I was on a roller coaster ride with this company! Also the vehicle had bald tires and this concern is quite common with this company! VERY Disappointing!

I would recommend snow tires. Also, the trucks speedometers are in miles, our road sings are posted in kilometres. It was very difficult to figure out how fast we were driving, especially considering it's an unfamiliar vehicle.

The truck bounced around like it was possesed. It was so bad you couldn't even drink a cup of coffee in the cab while moving, and that was on the highway, and city streets. There was a lot of dust, or dirt in the "mom's attic" part of the box - I didn't need to use that area so it didn't affect me, and the hold-down clamp for the dolly was so badly stripped and rusted it was impossible to secure the dolly back into it when we were ready to drive again.

I stood in a line for 30 minutes waiting for a 8:00am pick up. I only had the truck for 4 hours to start, now take off a 1/2 an hour because check in was so slow. I only got one load done because of the distance a had to travel and time lost at check in. Then had to stand in another line up and wait to give the truck back. there was only one guy helping people and two other staff standing around talking. this was not including the extra guy they had that was checking the trucks. I over filled the truck because I miss judged and didn't want to take it back with less then I was given and they said there was nothing they could do about it. also I paid with debit and there is still a hold on my card for almost $70.00. I rented the truck last sat. not happy.

The parking lot was a total disgrace, and the young woman working the counter was not very friendly with most of the customers I seen her interacting with for the hour I stood in the line up. I have worked in the customer service area for many years you treat your customers with respect even if they are a little impatient after waiting in line for an hour.Really there should be a place to park your vehicle while retrieving your rental I had to walk down over that hill driveway which by the way was a sheet of ice and the rude counter girl told my brother to bad we have to be able to get trucks out

I found the procedure for refilling the fuel tank before returning the rental unit to be unsatisfactory. The fuel level in the tank is recorded prior to receiving the unit and the customer is required to bring it back with at least the same amount of fuel showing on the gauge. It is nearly impossible to determine how much fuel to put into the tank in order to achieve the desired level. In order to prevent being charged for insufficient fuel upon return the customer will put more fuel back into the tank than was used during the rental period. The customer is not credited with the extra fuel that is in the tank when it is returned but would most definitely be charged for any deficiency in the tank level upon return. I feel this is nothing more than an opportunity for U-Haul to get free fuel on each rental. In my opinion the units should be topped up prior to being rented and then the customer could refill the tank upon returning it and have only paid for the actual fuel that was used. Overall I was very pleased with the rental process and the fuel issue is only a small thing but I did walk away feeling that I was being taken advantage of. I'm certain most customers do not mind paying for what they get but it is small things like this that can leave a little sour taste.

Dartmouth staff were excellent - helpful advice and assistance with loading the trailer. However, the Vehicle had very poor brakes - I was fully loaded and towing a car transporter 2000 km, and I had to rely on downshifting to slow down effectively. Also, the screen washer was not working, which made the winter journey very hard work.

First of all they screwed up the reservation and said I changed it from 4 day rental to 4 hours.... The guy repeatedly called me a liar! Then the truck I booked wasn't available. He tried to charge me more, eventually matched my priced. Then told me I couldnt have it for the time I book 2 weeks in advance for!!! Then there were the problems with the truck! The back door was jammed and had to have three people to open or close it. Truck had to be boosted each morning(nothing was left on). I will never use this location ever again!

I did the pre check in online for express pick up but that did not happen. Even though I reserved a 15' truck they had to see if they had one. Then I reserved two dollies but they only had one. However I was given an appliance one after they checked to see if they had that. The girl who assisted me had the personality of a rock. The truck and equipment worked great and the return process was less painful. The guys in the yard were awesome and on the ball and same with the gentleman inside who processed the final payment.

Waited an hour in line to pick up an truck I reserved few days ahead. The price to rent a dolly or wraps for furniture is a rip off and over priced. Not filling the truck up to full and leaving it at an random point and telling the customer to return to that random point is ridiculous. They should always be at full and returned at full especially when you booked a few days ahead. I would not use uhaul again, not a great experience.

This trailer hitch style is not safe. It should have a Click shut or not click lock, not this turn down tighten style. It is not clear when the hitch is tight or not, even for a strong man to twist. Also they don't have jack stands so you can't easily manuever the tongue or check to see if the coupler is well attached. It is extremly dangerous and we had a major incident with this mechanism that could have cost us our lives. This should be changed!!

Have the truck I ordered ready, not stuck in the snow when I arrive to pick it up. Don't wait until 10 minutes before the store is about to close to truck and get it out of the snow. It had not snowed for a week at this point, the fact that there will still vehicles stuck in the snow is ridiculous and, in retrospect, should have been my first clue that this was going to be a disastrous experience. The truck I was given (not the one that I ordered and was told I would be getting) broke down four times over the course of my 24 hour rental, got stuck on a ploughed asphalt driveway due to the steer tires installed as rear tires, and eventually died once and for all at the gas station while refuelling, and ended its day on the back of a tow truck. I should mention, the representative at the drop-off location insisted we take the truck back out for refuelling despite knowing it was not functioning properly, and actually witness the battery and electronics malfunction IN THE UHAUL PARKING LOT. Every employee I dealt with, except the second Roadside Assistance Representative, was an absolutely incompetent and unreasonable. I am actively seeking a refund for after this total nightmare with Uhaul, who took an already unpleasant situation (moving in winter in Canada), and made it infinitely worse. Please, if you have ANY other option than renting from Uhaul, I implore you to choose it, whatever the cost.

The employees are extremely incompetent. They gave me too much trouble to get back the money they owed me. It totally felt like uhaul didn't want to return the money. They lied to me and gave me lots of wrong information. I had to call them too any times because they were slack and the only time things got done were when I was angry. Terribl terrible employees. This is an extremely important service. I suggest retraining the staff. The That kind of misinformation is extremely undesirable.

I originally made my reservation at flamingo drive location in halifax, upon arrival I noticed they were closed even though it was during regular business hours, I called uhaul to get a new location, so they redirected me to a location on Oxford street in Halifax, upon arriving there they did not have the van cleaned off or ready to go so I had to call uhaul again and that time they send me to the windmill road location in dartmouth. They were awesome at windmill and that is where I will be going from now on whenever I need to rent a vehicle :)

The vehicle I was given (14ft truck) had tires with no treads, a broken or non-functioning windshield wipers and washer sprayer and the gauges in the vehicle didn't work and the check engine light was on. During the use I used over $30 of fuel to drive less than 30 miles in the city. The tires were so bad that I could go up the smallest of inclines and When I mentioned it to the guy returning my vehicle he agreed the tires shouldn't have been allowed out. He pointed me the the on-duty manager and when I raised my concerns about the safety of the vehicle because of these things she was dismissive and didn't provide any customer service or remedy the situation. In fact I had to insist that she have the truck pulled for service reasons until a licensed mechanic could go over those issues. Notwithstanding the truck safety issues I also waited for over 40 minutes to pick up the vehicle as there was a line of 10+ renters who all arrived near the same time. I would have expected since I registered online that the vehicle would have been prepped and ready similar to a car rental company but apparently the online registration was of no value in expediting the checkin process. Overall a very poor showing for UHaul and disappointing as I have always had good service from them. I won't likely do business with you again unless you guarantee a safe vehicle and better customer service.

The roof leaked all over my stuff. The roof is caved in like a bubble, and it is obvious that it previously leaked because it is taped up in the same area.

Very inconvenient that the hours of storage access are from 7-7. Had everyone ready for move into my storage place last night and it was 716 and couldn`t use the help. Sucked bigtime.

Not a good facility for loading and unloading trailers. Had to move my truck at least 3 times while I was waiting to be served. The lot is on a steep hill which makes it harder to access.

I was charged the wrong price for the truck rental, so I had to have some money refunded. Also, I was charged for a dolly usage which I didn`t use. Vey poor, never again.

If you don`t vacate your storage unit within 3 days of pmt date you pay for a whole month. This is a shameless money grab. You can open anytime so why am I paying when it can be rented?

I wish I could have card access later than 7pm. I work until 5pm, so that leaves me just 2 hours a day or less depending on traffic, that I can access my storage unit.
