The Thule APEX 4 is easy to load and unload. The Hold Fast RDT (Road Dampening Technology) Cradles™ absorb shock to protect the bikes during transport. Bike-to-bike contact is prevented by the patented No-Sway Cages™. The integrated lock secures the bikes to the rack for maximum security and can be stored in the rack when bikes are not loaded. This rack’s arched arm design makes for greater ground clearance and a greater distance between the bikes. The rack can also be tilted down to ensure the rear of the vehicle is still accessible.

  • Carries 1 to 4 bikes up to 35 lbs. each (140 lbs. total carrying capacity)
  • Compatible with all vehicles equipped with a 1-1/4” or 2” receiver hitch
  • Includes receiver lock

This item was easy to install and I liked the built-in security features (lock cylinders and bike cable). I also like that is has a small profile when folded, which gives it a nicer aesthetic while on the vehicle and makes it easy to toss in the trunk when not in use. I have also had no problems with the bikes staying in the cradles; and I find that the straps are very easy to fasten and unfasten. The included woven strap helps reduce “wobbling” in transit. You’ll never eliminate it completely, but it is certainly not an issue of stability. I am very happy with this product.

Installing the bike rack was fairly easy. Tested the rack with two bikes (road bike and MTB) they remained secure and stable on the highway and on bumpy roads.

I haven't actually used it yet b/c the weather hasn't been cooperating but it's very well made. I feel confident we'll have many years of good use out of it.
