U-Haul sustainable self-storage

Protecting our communities by reducing our carbon footprint

U-Haul Company´s goal is to meet our customers´ increasing demand for self-storage by reusing existing materials to create additional self-storage units and to reduce our impact on the environment. Sustainable self storage reuses van bodies that have been detached from retired U-Haul trucks. This program significantly reduces use of energy and materials such as concrete and steel.

Most greenhouse gas emissions related to concrete consumption occur during the manufacture of cement. The manufacture of one ton of cement produces one ton of carbon dioxide. Cement is the primary component of concrete. Pouring 1,000 cubic yards of concrete indirectly emits 400,000 pounds of carbon dioxide.
