Investing in dynamic testing has been an ongoing effort of U-Haul for over 40 years. This testing is recognized throughout the industry. Some of these videos include the LA Times reporters from July 21, 2006.
Sway stability testing measures the sway stability performance of a trailer. The purpose of this test is to determine how quickly trailer sway will stop after something has caused sway to begin. In this test a sudden large steering input is used to cause the initial sway.
Double lane change testing evaluates the handling and stability of a vehicle and trailer. The purpose of this test is to demonstrate that no sway or handling problem occurs when a quick lane change and then back to original lane are performed in a relatively short time or distance.
Straight line braking testing measures the stopping performance of a vehicle and trailer. The purpose of this test is to determine that the vehicle and trailer can brake to a stop within a specified distance. The vehicle and trailer must also stay within the lane to demonstrate stability.
Improper loading examples. Special testing that demonstrates the effect of improper trailer loading with negative tongue weight. The purpose of this test is to demonstrate that trailer sway will occur without steering input when a trailer is improperly loaded with negative tongue weight. The sway will begin at a speed related to the specific improper loading condition. Negative tongue weight is defined as a condition where the trailer pulls upward on the hitchball while the vehicle and trailer are at rest.
