U-Haul of Port Washington to Introduce Self-Storage at Grand Opening
Public Invited to Ribbon-Cutting and Small Bites on Jan. 11
SAUKVILLE, Wis. (Jan. 4, 2018) — U-Haul® will host a grand opening Jan. 11 to unveil its contemporary indoor self-storage facility at 835 E. Green Bay Ave., site of the former Piggly Wiggly grocery store.
Local residents and media in attendance can take a behind-the-scenes tour of the facility. There will be free appetizers, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, giveaways and other activities. The indoor event is from 3-5 p.m.
“We’re excited to reveal the work we put into revitalizing this building,” said Mike Schneider, U-Haul Company of South Eastern Wisconsin president. “We’re introducing this top-of-the-line facility and our new U-Haul Truck Share 24/7 self-service program, which offers Saukville the latest, easiest and most secure truck rental process in the industry.”
U-Haul Moving & Storage of Port Washington opened in a limited capacity in June 2016, offering truck and trailer sharing, U-Box portable moving and storage containers, and moving supplies. Then the real work began. More than one year of cleanup and construction yielded a renovated 40,901-square-foot structure with 130-plus self-storage units. The facility offers U-Haul Remote 24/7® access, high-tech security features and a green reuse center for customers.

By repurposing the former Piggly Wiggly store, U-Haul prevented the use of 115 tons of metal for manufacturing and transportation (the amount of steel used to make 116 passenger cars); avoided 3,535 tons of new concrete pours (enough to create 71 miles of concrete blocks); kept 3,702 tons of construction and demolition debris out of landfills (avoiding 142 dump trucks traveling 2,990 miles); and stopped 1,890,289 million pounds of greenhouse gas emissions from entering the atmosphere (the carbon emissions of 145 large SUVs or pickup trucks for one year).
