U-Haul of Richardson Expands to Offer Customers More Storage Options
RICHARDSON, Texas (April 1, 2016) — Residents of Richardson and surrounding areas north of Dallas have relied on their local U-Haul store for equipment rentals and self-storage needs for more than 40 years.
U-Haul Moving & Storage of Richardson at 412 N. Central Expy. has been a proud staple of the community since 1976, but until recently had only 24 storage units to offer its customers. Thanks to the completion of a build-out project in January, the store is renting out 61 new storage units.
“This is the only U-Haul center in the Richardson area and we have been here for 40 years, so we are proud to offer our customers more storage,” U-Haul Company of Northeast Dallas president Zane Rowland said.
With the expansion, customers have access to 85 secure and affordable storage units of varying sizes in addition to truck and trailer rentals, moving supplies, towing equipment and professional hitch installation, propane and more.
“We weren’t utilizing our available space in the best way possible, so we moved the U-Box containers to free up space for the new storage units,” Rowland noted. “The addition of the 61 non-climate-controlled storage rooms is important to Richardson because we had no real storage presence before.”
U-Box portable moving and self-storage containers are now available seven miles up the road at U-Haul Moving & Storage of Plano at 4101 W. Plano Pkwy.
During the early 1970s, the 0.83-acre property where the Richardson store resides was home to a brick building and tall service bays that constituted a Toyota® dealership. The setup made for an easy conversion to a U-Haul facility.
The initial acquisition of the Richardson facility was driven by U-Haul Company’s Corporate Sustainability initiatives: U-Haul supports infill development to help local communities lower their carbon footprint. Our adaptive reuse of existing buildings reduces the amount of energy and resources required for new-construction materials and helps cities reduce their unwanted inventory of unused buildings.
