Adaptive Reuse: U-Haul Opens Strawbridge Park Store in Maple Shade

MAPLE SHADE, N.J. (April 4, 2016) — U-Haul is incorporating its adaptive reuse practices to convert a former commerce center and industrial park at 121 Kings Hwy. into a full-service moving and storage facility in Maple Shade.

U-Haul Moving & Storage of Strawbridge Park opened for business in January. The 15.48-acre property was acquired last July and consists of five brick buildings and 154,601 square feet. The buildings are sprinkled on both sides of Kings Highway.

“This new location offers our customers more convenience and therefore reduced moving costs,” U-Haul Company of Southern New Jersey president Paul Kelly said. “Having this location will allow customers moving into Maple Shade the convenience of being able to return their U-Haul rental equipment in the same community.”

Contact U-Haul Moving & Storage of Strawbridge Park at (856) 316-4451 or stop by to visit general manager Alex Raudez and his team. Hours of operation are from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Thursday and Saturday; 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday; and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. Reserve equipment at uhaul.com or contact Reservations at 1-800-GO-UHAUL.

Customers currently have access to truck and trailer rentals, towing equipment, moving supplies and U-Box portable moving and self-storage containers. By end of summer, U-Haul Moving & Storage of Strawbridge Park will offer climate-controlled storage encompassing 30,000 square feet. The number of storage units has yet to be determined.

The property, formerly known as Kings Commerce Center, is within a half-mile of Strawbridge Park. Other prominent businesses surround the location such as BJ’s Wholesale Club, Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant, Crossfit 41 South gym, VILLA LA PAWS pet resort, and LittleSPORT.

“This U-Haul store will help the community by increasing customer convenience and reducing our carbon footprint since we have repurposed a declining complex,” Kelly added. “The Maple Shade Township governing body has been very cooperative and helpful to U-Haul in the process of moving forward. I believe this is a win-win-win for Maple Shade, its citizens and U-Haul.”

The acquisition of the Maple Shade facility was driven by U-Haul Company’s Corporate Sustainability initiatives: U-Haul® supports infill development to help local communities lower their carbon footprint. Our adaptive reuse of existing buildings reduces the amount of energy and resources required for new-construction materials and helps cities reduce their unwanted inventory of unused buildings.
