U-Haul Offering 30 Days of Free U-Box and Storage to Fort McMurry Residents Affected by Wildfires

FORT MCMURRAY, Alberta (May 4, 2016) — U-Haul is offering 30 days of free self-storage and U-Box container usage to residents of Fort McMurray and surrounding areas who have been evacuated from their homes or need to move belongings away from the recent outbreak of wildfires.

The U-Haul Company of Northern Alberta, Saskatchewan and Northwest Territories and U-Haul Storage Stores of Edmonton are all offering free storage units and U-Box containers to impacted individuals and families at any U-Haul owned and operated storage facilities in the area where there is availability.

“We want to offer our full support and whatever help we can to people affected by disaster,” said Marketing Company President Fred Ward, U-Haul Company of Northern Alberta, Saskatchewan and Northwest Territories. “We are a strong community supporter and we want to do what we can to help in any type of disaster situation.”

“There have been 80,000 people evacuated, and we are expecting 18,000 into Edmonton today,” Ward explained. “Four neighborhoods were already completely destroyed. This wildfire is raging. It’s affected almost the entire town.”

People in need of boxes are encouraged to take advantage of the U-Haul Take a Box, Leave a Box Program. The program enables customers to return their reusable boxes and others to take them as needed. U-Haul encourages anyone who has reusable boxes to drop them at the nearest U-Haul location for another family to reuse, free of charge.
