U-Haul Offers Self-Storage at Historic Swayne Field Location

TOLEDO, Ohio (June 9, 2016) — The property where the Toledo Mud Hens’ historic baseball park was housed from 1909 to 1955 now serves as a convenient location for moving and storage products at U-Haul at Swayne Field.

The 4.99-acre parcel at 3011 Council St. features a four-story, 155,630-square-foot building that was occupied by Burkett Restaurant Equipment & Supplies since 1993.

“I’m excited that U-Haul is keeping Toledo history alive with the Swayne Field location,” U-Haul Company of Northwest Ohio president David Vallie said. “We look forward to seeing Toledo and the surrounding areas grow as we strive to meet the needs of the residents here.”

U-Haul opened a temporary showroom last September upon acquiring the property and currently offers truck and trailer rentals, towing equipment, moving supplies and boxes, U-Box portable moving and self-storage containers and more. A permanent showroom is under construction and will open this summer. By early fall, the completed renovations will offer U-Haul customers 700 self-storage units, propane and professional hitch installation.

“With a location right off I-75, we have a great opportunity to provide the community with all their moving and storage needs,” Vallie said. “U-Haul is going to be the one-stop shop for Toledo.”

The acquisition of the Toledo facility was driven by U-Haul Company’s Corporate Sustainability initiatives: U-Haul supports infill development to help local communities lower their carbon footprint. Our adaptive reuse of existing buildings reduces the amount of energy and resources required for new-construction materials and helps cities reduce their unwanted inventory of unused buildings.
