Clay McQuade Named ADVP of District 20

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 12, 2016) — After leading U-Haul Company of Knoxville (774) for the past 20 years as marketing company president, Clay McQuade has been selected as the area district vice president of District 20.

U-Haul CEO Joe Shoen and Executive Vice President Frank D’Abarno made the announcement. McQuade, who assumed his new role on Aug. 3, is excited for the challenge ahead.

“I am very thankful for the opportunity to work with an outstanding, talented group of hardworking, dedicated folks that we have in District 20,” McQuade said. “I’ve been fortunate to have some truly amazing leaders in my career that have taught me so many valuable lessons about our business that have been instrumental in my growth at U-Haul and in my personal life. I will continue to do my very best to pass this experience on to all I have the pleasure to work with.”

McQuade’s U-Haul career began in 1985 as a customer service representative at U-Haul at Grant Road in Tucson, Ariz. In 1986, he was promoted to general manager of U-Haul Moving & Storage at Davis Monthan AFB. During the next five years, McQuade was tabbed to lead four U-Haul stores in southern Arizona before moving to San Antonio in 1991 to become assistant GM at U-Haul Moving and Storage of Naco-Perrin.

McQuade served as GM there and at three other stores in the San Antonio area until 1993, when he was named area field manager for what is now known as U-Haul Company of San Antonio East (744). He also worked as senior staff for U-Haul Company of Oklahoma (738) and a marketing account executive for U-Haul International in Phoenix before being promoted to MCP over Knoxville in 1996.

“I am amazed at the raw talent we have all around our organization,” he noted. “We are in some very exciting times right now that people will be talking about for years to come. Going forward we must continue to develop talented individuals who are already in our work groups, recruit likeminded teams and then staff our stores, routes and marketing companies with strong people who understand customer service and do it with excellence.”
