U-Haul at N. Glenstone Adding to Self-Storage with Abutting Property

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (Feb. 1, 2017) — Springfield residents have called on the U-Haul store at 1768 N. Glenstone Ave. for do-it-yourself moving products and services since 1980.

Until recently, U-Haul Moving & Storage at N. Glenstone lacked the space to expand its self-storage operation. But thanks to the recent acquisition of a 1.28-acre abutting property along E. Commercial Street, U-Haul is adding 240 indoor climate-controlled self-storage units.

“We currently have 173 self-storage rooms,” U-Haul Company of Missouri president Bryan Dean said. “We will be more than doubling our capacity which will give our customers additional rental options to keep their possessions clean, dry and secure.”

U-Haul is converting a former strip mall to meet its customer demand for self-storage. The project should be completed by the summer.

“The strip mall was becoming an eyesore,” Dean explained. “When we finish our renovations, it will be something that both U-Haul and the City of Springfield can be proud of. Most cities are starting to see the advantages of adaptive reuse. Our downtown district is converting older buildings into loft apartments, restaurants and office spaces. It is important for us to being doing our part. These buildings just need some TLC.”

The Springfield expansion was driven by U-Haul Company's Corporate Sustainability initiatives: U-Haul® supports infill developments to help local communities lower their carbon footprint. Our adaptive reuse of existing buildings reduces the amount of energy and resources required for new-construction materials and helps cities reduce their unwanted inventory of unused buildings.

Customers at U-Haul Moving & Storage at N. Glenstone enjoy access to truck and trailer rentals, self-storage, moving supplies, boxes, towing equipment, professional hitch installation, U-Box portable moving and self-storage containers, propane and more.
