Adaptive Reuse: Lincoln Self Storage Repurposes Old Outlet Store
LINCOLN, ILL. (June 12, 2015) – As the only town in the United States named after Abraham Lincoln before he became president, Lincoln has more than a few stories to tell.
What started out as a Stetson China outlet store in the 1950s has since been remolded into a two-story self-storage facility. The Lincoln Self Storage building at 1001 N. Kickapoo St. is the lone remaining structure from the original Stetson China complex.
While owner Lloyd Mason is renovating part of Lincoln Self Storage’s second floor, he has been bringing in business in a different way as the busy summer moving season approaches its peak.
Lincoln Self Storage recently became a U-Haul® neighborhood dealer, offering truck rentals, truck sales, trailers, towing equipment, support rental items and much more from the industry leader in do-it-yourself moving and self-storage.
Reserve U-Haul items here by visiting http://www.uhaul.com/Locations/Truck-Rentals-near-Lincoln-IL or calling (217) 732-3053 today. Lincoln Self Storage is open 6 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Saturday and noon-5 p.m. Sunday with after-hours drop-off available for your convenience.
With Lincoln College just a half-mile away, Mason has seen an increased flow of young students coming in for U-Haul trucks.
“U-Haul is a great business,” Mason said. “We haven’t been the same since!”
U-Haul products have complemented the storage facility, attracting new customers while giving them a method to transport their personal goods to and from the storage units.
Mason hopes to attract more customers as soon as he’s done renovating. Repurposing the old outlet store has been difficult, but Mason is glad he could promote adaptive reuse and corporate sustainability at Lincoln Self Storage.
U-Haul and Lincoln Self Storage are striving to benefit the environment through sustainability initiatives. Truck sharing is a core U-Haul sustainability business practice that allows individuals to access a fleet of trucks that is larger than what they could access on an individual basis.
Every U-Haul truck placed in a community helps keep 19 personally owned large-capacity vehicles, pickups, SUVs and vans off the road. Fewer vehicles means less traffic congestion, less pollution, less fuel burned and cleaner air.
Just one mile from historic Route 66, Lincoln Self Storage is a great place to become U-Haul Famous. Take your picture in front of a U-Haul product, send it in and your face could land on the side of a U-Haul truck.
