2012 Honda CR-V Trailer Hitch Installation (VIDEO)
Welcome to the installation video of the CURT 13116 class 3 trailer hitch on the 2012 Honda CR-V. To give you a better view of the installation, we are using a lift. Like most installations, this vehicle does not need to be elevated for the install. We estimate this installation to take 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on your level of expertise.
First let’s go over the tools necessary for the install. You’ll need the following tools:
- Ratchet Ratchet Extension
- 11/16” Socket, 10mm Socket
- Swivel Socket
- Phillips Screwdriver
- Trim Retainer Removal Tool
- Die Grinder
- Measuring Tape
- Masking Tape
- Utility Knife
- Marking Pen
- Pry Bar
- Torque Wrench
If present, remove the underbody panel by removing the 8 fasteners located here and the 2 fasteners located on the driver side wheel well. Lower the exhaust by removing the 2 rubber exhaust isolators. You may want to use a spray lubricant or soapy water. Make sure to ease the removal process. Mark the underbody panel for trimming by following the diagram included in the instruction sheet. Use masking tape or painters tape to clearly define the cut lines. Then trim the marked area. We are using a razor knife to provide a clean cut. Reattach the underbody panel by using the fasteners removed previously.
Next, insert the supplied U-bolt into the tow loop and raise the hitch into position. Secure the hitch loosely to the U-bolt with 7/16” hex flange nuts. Mount the passenger side side plate to the frame with the supplied 10mm bolt and conical tooth washers. Repeat this process on the opposing side. Torque all hardware to that specified value in the supplied instruction sheet. Reattach the exhaust back into position.
This completes the installation of the CURT 13119 Class 3 trailer hitch for the 2012 Honda CR-V.
