How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2012 Toyota Tacoma (VIDEO)

Welcome to the installation video of the CURT 13323 Class 3 Receiver Hitch on the 2012 Toyota Tacoma. To give you a better view of the installation, we are using a lift. Like most installations, this vehicle does not need to be elevated for the install. We estimate this installation to take between one and two hours depending on your level of expertise.

First, let’s go over the tools necessary for the install: You’ll need a Torque Wrench, a Ratchet, a Ratchet Extension, a 17mm Socket, and a 19mm Socket. Starting on the passenger side, remove these two hex bolts which attach the rear bumper bracket to the frame. Loosen the remaining three hex bolts. Repeat this process on the driver’s side. Raise the hitch into position between the bumper brackets and the vehicle frame rails. It is helpful to have a second person to help you hold the hitch in place. Install the supplied hex bolts through the hitch and into the frame weld nuts.

Next, reinstall the factory bolts through the bumper bracket and into the bumper. Starting on the passenger’s side, insert the two spacer blocks between the bumper bracket and the bumper. Reinstall the bolts through the bumper bracket, spacer, and into the bumper structure. Repeat this process on the driver’s side. Torque all the 12mm hardware to 65 foot pounds and torque the 10mm hardware to 36 foot pounds. This completes the installation of the CURT 13323 Class 3 Receiver Hitch on the 2012 Toyota Tacoma.
