Trailer Hitch Installation for 2012 Kia Sportage (VIDEO)

Welcome to the installation video of the CURT 13120 Class 3 Trailer Hitch on a 2012 Kia Sportage. To give you a better view of the installation, we are using a lift. Like most installations, this vehicle does not need to be elevated for the install. We estimate this installation to take 15 minutes to a half hour depending on your level of expertise.

Here are the tools necessary for the install:

  • Ratchet
  • 17mm Socket
  • Ratchet Extension
  • Pry Bar
  • Torque Wrench
  • Support the exhaust using wire hanger or ratchet strap. Lower the exhaust by unhooking the two rubber isolators.

Start by locating the five attachment points on the vehicles frame. If the weld nuts are too corroded for the bolts to pass through, clean thoroughly with a wire brush or thread tab.

Then, raise the hitch into position by aligning the mounting holes in the hitch with the mounting holes in the frame. Secure the hitch to the frame with supplied M10 bolts and 3/8’s conical tooth washers. Torque all hardware to that specified in the supplied instruction sheet and raise the exhaust back into position.

This completes the installation of the CURT 13120 Class 3 Trailer Hitch on the 2012 Kia Sportage. Still need a ball mount or wiring harness? Find all that and more at uhaul.com, your #1 resource for DIY moving & storage.
