Trailer Hitch Installation for 2013 Chevrolet Equinox (VIDEO)

Welcome to the installation video of the CURT 56094 T-Connector on the 2013 Chevrolet Equinox. We estimate this installation to take 30 minutes to an hour depending on your level of expertise.

These are the tools necessary for the install:

  • Ratchet
  • Ratchet Extension
  • 10mm Socket
  • T30 Torque bit
  • Wire Cutter
  • Screwdrivers (Phillips & Flathead)

Start by disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to ensure your safety. Open the rear hatch and remove the fasteners holding the taillight assembly in place  on the driver’s side. Gently remove the taillight assembly. Locate the vehicle’s taillight wiring harness, the connectors are similar to the T-Connector harness.

Once located, separate the harness for the taillight assembly taking extra care not to damage the locking tabs. Repeat this process on the opposing side. On the driver’s side, insert the T-Connector with the yellow wire into the vehicle’s wiring harness. Be sure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. Route the remaining connector end with the green wire down through the opening and under the driver’s side taillight.

Next, go under the vehicle, route the T-Connector across the back side of the bumper and up through the opening under the passenger’s side taillight. The 4-flat connector should end up near the center of the vehicle. Connect the taillight housing connector to the T-Connector harness, taking extra care not to damage the locking tabs. Then, locate a suitable attachment point for the white ground wire. In this instance, we’re using a nearby screw in the vehicle’s body. Alternatively, a self-tapping screw is supplied.

Now you can connect the taillight housing connector to the T-Connector harness, take extra care not to damage the locking tabs. Reattach the previously removed fasteners. Repeat this process on the opposing side. Reconnect the negative battery cable and test the wiring with a tester or properly wired trailer. Using the supplied wire ties, secure the slack in the green and yellow wires to your preference. Be careful to secure the wires away from the exhaust.
