To add a trailer hitch to a 2014 Ford E-150, E-250 or E-350 you will need a few tools, a U-Haul trailer hitch number 78321 and about 30 minutes to complete the installation. Follow these basic steps to start hauling a variety of hitch-mounted accessories with your Ford cargo van today.

About the U-Haul 78321 trailer hitch

The U-Haul part number 78321 is a class 4, bolt-on trailer hitch designed for the 2014 Ford E-150, E-250 or E-350. It has a max trailer weight of 6,000 lb. and a max tongue weight of 900 lb. Installation requires no welding or drilling.

Tools needed:

  • Safety glasses
  • Torque wrench
  • 3/4 in. socket
  • 5 in. socket extension
  • 3/4 combo wrench

2014 Ford E-150, E-250 and E-350 hitch installation steps

1. Position the hitch

Lift the hitch into position. The attachment holes on the frame rail should line up with the attachment holes on the hitch on both sides of the vehicle. Leave enough space between the hitch and frame for the block spacers. You may need a second pair of hands to assist you.

2. Install the hardware

With the hitch in position, drop the carriage nuts through the frame holes, spacers and hitch attachment holes so the threads are visible. Be sure the block spacers are between the frame and bolt head. Install the conical washers and hex nuts on all six carriage bolts and tighten by hand.

3. Torque the hex nuts

Use the 3/4 combo wrench to hold the carriage bolts in place while you use the torque wrench to secure the hex nuts. Torque each nut to 75 ft. lb. You should hear a clicking sound after the correct amount of torque is applied. Use the 5-inch extension if necessary.

You should now have your U-Haul 78321 trailer hitch installed on your 2014 Ford cargo van.
