Moving to Boston- Somerville

Oct 1, 2013

So, you’ve decided that Somerville has a nice ring to it and you’re ready to call it home. For a town that is filled to the brim with style, diversity, and uniquely intimate neighborhoods, there’s endless information for newcomers. With so much life bustling from Davis Square to Union Square to Assembly Row, you may feel like your attention span is being pulled in ten different directions as you map out the logistics for moving to Boston.  What you need to know are the basics- where to park, where to eat, where to shop.

The city of Somerville covers all parking needs, whether it be 15 minute meter or resident only, you should keep in mind that Somerville employs a LOT of meter maids and tow trucks! As for moving day, whether you’re renting a U-Haul truck or hiring a moving company, you’ll need to pay for a permit and sign, as well as reserve the street space for $40 covering 1-3 days of your move.

Where to Eat: Hands down, Union Square. No wait, Inman… or is it Davis? The thing about Somerville is that no matter where you move to there will always be ethnically infused high quality dining options. From the euro beer patio Bronwyn in Union Square all the way to the cricket sports bar, Hit Wicket in Inman Square. There is never a dull moment for the culinary assortment that dazzles foodies in Somerville.

Where to Shop: The good news is that while you may be paying middle to high rent prices, the thrift shop scene in Somerville is competitive, trendy, and penny pickin affordable. Already worn not your style? Not a problem. Assembly Row in East Somerville has got you covered with over 50 outlet stores coming soon. And as for filling your cabinets in your new place, there are various grocery stores sprinkled throughout the city. Inman Square just opened its doors to a brand new Whole Foods and Teele Square just unveiled a new Stop and Shop on the corner of Broadway and Alewife parkway. Spend a day shopping in Somerville and get all your needs met without leaving town.
