How Celebrities Move

Many of us dream about how glamorous life would be as a celebrity superstar. But spend enough time reading about people’s invasion into celebrities lives, and you begin to understand how difficult it would be to guard your personal information. Celebrities are now proactively preventing any of their information from leaking out—the most personal information out there of course being where they live.

Nondisclosure Agreements

With celebrities on the offensive with their livelihood, nondisclosure agreements have become vital. A nondisclosure agreement (or NDA) is a contract that requires any home assistance or help to essentially promise that they won’t videotape, photograph, or gossip about anything they see or hear within the celebrity household. Such contracts aren’t exactly groundbreaking, however, they are imperative for celebrities who have housekeepers, gardeners, handyman, and yes, even moving helpers.

Moving Day Challenges

Typically, moving day for the average American begins early in the morning with friends and family up and loading the U-Haul truck. As a celebrity this could be extremely difficult with a constant stream of paparazzi, curious neighborhoods, and superstar stalkers on the loose. However, despite popular belief, many celebrities, such as Hayden Christensen, prefer to move their own belongings (similar to the normal American family) so they can keep a close watch. In order to avoid scheduling a massive move with a large company, celebrities have begun to do the following:

  1. Utilize self-moving services (for example, U-Haul)
  2. Move belongings late night/early morning, sometimes 2AM
  3. Occasionally sign nondisclosure agreements with moving helpers
  4. Utilize decoy moving vans

Finally, some may argue that celebrities really don’t move more often than wealthy individuals in other professions. However, many celebrities are “bicoastal”, which means they have twice as many homes to move into in comparison to the somewhat equally wealthy American family. All in all, celebrities seem to move a good amount more than the average Joe. They do have similar, if not more, organizational moving stressors we do, and the level of security and additional complications is on a completely other level from the regular, everyday move.
