The truck floor and cargo area was extremely dirty when we picked it up. The drivers seatbelt would not retract properly. The positive was the receptionist was very helpful with my truck order. Since they were out of 15' trucks, she was able to help me obtain a 20' truck for the same cost. I appreciated their flexibility vs. just canceling my order.Stephanie S.

Equipment worn, had two tires go flat. Pickup location was very remote and many miles from my home. After loading we found inside tire was flat. Three hour wait for repair then another flat. Brake caliper was hitting rim causing flat. Then I was charged for extra 3 or 4 miles. Not too happy! People were great!JAMESROBERT B.

Advise renter to measure probable distances to best guide rental options. For me original rental site 6 miles away but then sent 12 miles to different site ( I did see truck @ original rental site).I was asked( not my choice) to return truck to Vinton , Va 20 miles away making my 13 mile in town rental Into 50 mile one way rental virtually doubling cost. We picked up our truck and none of the extras we paid for were included: appliance dolly and 3 dozen furniture pads. This location isn't open on Saturday. So after calling the 24/7 uhaul number, I was transferred to a marketing company who covers for this location. This gentleman was wonderful. He called a location across town and made arrangements for me to drive over there and pick up what should have been in my truck all along. Major inconvenience. Poor execution, Uhaul!Sandy R.

I rented a 6 by 12 foot Closed trailer for 2 days . Lady wanted to know where I was going to return trailer . I told her Altavista , Va . So I did what I needed and went to ALTAVISTA ,Va to drop trailer . I was told I could not drop it there and if I did there would be an additional fee of $194.00 . They said that I had to take it back to where I rented or pay the additional fee . So I took it back to where I got it . I will not be renting anymore u-haul products ! Cindy is quite possibly the finest selection of a representative of a company. Period. Her customer service skills are fast, friendly, and efficient. When I walked in, she was on the phone with her boss, she greeted me in a friendly manner, and began taking my information while fielding her in-progress call. By the time she hung up with her boss she was nearly done with my reservation, and all of my information was accurate! Talk about multi-tasking! I will certainly be doing all of my business with her, as well as recommending my friends and family do the same. A+!!!nathan G.

Need to be able to instruct the customer on the operation of your trailers, park the trailers in a spot where you don't have to drive out through mud, should be employees on site that can install the trailer on your hitch.Mike H.

I am a long frequent supporter of your team. This was a poor experience with multiple mistakes and different quotes at a time I was in need of help. It ended as over $110 for a 30 mile one way rental. The incorrect quotes we tried to get for a trailer included mileage and even an offer to return in 3 hours the 60 mile quote including mileage for a trailer was quoted several times at the location and on the phone at the office were frustrating.JEFF M.

My experience with Smith Mountain Lake Storage was excellent! I was a walk-in and was swiftly greeted and accommodated. However, UHaul as a company has a lot to be desired. My reservation was not honored in my location enemy though I had booked almost three weeks in advance. Never will I ever rent form U-Haul as a company. I do want to thank Smith Mountain Lake Storage for their kind service. Kudos to you for making up for U-Hauls lack of customer service.James C.

This review is based on overall experience with U-Haul. I had a reservation for a 26 foot truck on Fri June 29th for 3 pm until Saturday 3 pm. I received a call on Thursday June 28th at 11:30 am to tell me that they had overbooked by "accident" and that they would not be able to fill my reservation but would look for another truck. 4 hours later they did call and say they had a 15 foot truck but at another location which was now 20 miles further out. I agreed. I then received a call on Friday morning at 10:00 am telling me that I couldn't keep the truck until 3 pm on Saturday as they had another booking for 10:30 am on Saturday. So now I have a truck 1/2 the size and for only part of the time. Upon return the clerk was just going to check me out for the estimated mileage of 125 miles even though the actual mileage was 91 miles thus almost overcharging me $40. Had I not said something I'm sure he just would have closed out the invoice without correcting the mileage. The truck worked fine and was clean. It did have a cracked windshield.JAMES H.
Uhaul has lied or abused me on every platform they operate. Yesterday, I got confirmation via text message for the truck I put in a rental order for last week. The problem was it was in a completely different city than I reserved it for. I called customer service and waited 30 minutes before someone picked up my call. As soon as I told her the problem she hung up. I decided to give her the benefit of a doubt, but wanted to speak directly to a manager, so I called and waited another 30 minutes. Asked for the manager and got transferred fine, but again, as soon as I stated my problem she hung up on me too. I was more than a little frustrated and a bit angry by this point so I called my local uhaul to see what they could do. Because it was another district they couldn't do anything but did give me their regionals managers number. I called him, as expected he couldn't do anything with it being out of his district, but at least he was helpful enough to give me the number of the district manager for the area of my pickup. Unfortunately, that manager never picked up his phone and his voicemail was turned off. I sent him a few texts begging to contact me but he never did. So my last ditch effort was to PM the customer service reps on this Facebook page. The agent kind of talked down to me and told me it was only 48 miles away and they gave me a hundred extra miles, so apparently she didn't understand the big deal. At that point I didn't map out the location so I took her at her word and let it go. So this brings us to this morning. I hop in the car and prepare to make the trip to the pickup spot and discover not only is it really over 70 miles away but it is also almost an hour and a half extra drive on backwood winding country roads. Frustrated, but I felt I had no choice as it was too late to cancel and find other accommodations. All options to contact uhaul will either outright lie to you or just not deal with you by hanging up. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT use uhaul unless you're a glutton for punishment. They will lie to you, try to cheat you and hang up on you if they don't like what they hear. I have screenshots of everything.Anthony H.

Equipment (10 foot truck) was clean and reliable. Attendant was courteous. I returned the small truck after several hours of local use and having traveled a total of 80 miles. I refueled the vehicle to a level more than when I started (9.95 gallons). After receiving my statement via email, I see that I was charged for an additional 4 gallons of gasoline at $4/gal. This would put the small truck with a light load of a few hundred pounds at 5.73 miles per gal. Just sayin'.Dan M.

very disappointed. filled up truck beyond full mark, beyond what was required, and I was still charge $3.39 for something after drop off. no notification as to what the charge was for. I even rent two storage units at this site. nickle and dimming existing customers may get you a few extra dollars in the short run, but not long term business.mike S.
I had to move in the rain unfortunately and the truck I rented had really bad wiper blades which made for an aggravated drive (noise and visibility). Also, the truck was not swept out as I was instructed to do so I swept it out before use AND after use.DAVID C.
