My original online reservation allowed me to choose a location closer to me. I did not receive a confirmation call or email telling me the location had changed so when I arrived the next morning and logged into my account, the change showed up. Highly inconvenient. The person at the new location was friendly and super helpful but I do not understand why I input all of my info online when there was a person available who handed me the keys. Unless he wasn't scheduled to be there as of yet since I was late arriving due to the above-mentioned location change.

My experience with U-Haul was AWFUL. If you are thinking about reserving a U-Box to use for moving- DO NOT DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is worth the extra money to go with a moving company, or an actual Pod company. I am a customer who gives any company benefit of the doubt as I am in business myself, but my entire process working with U-Haul was unacceptable! I chose the option of renting a truck to be able to transfer my furniture from my apartment to the warehouse to load up my u-box. I decided to save mileage by renting the truck from the location in which my u-box would be located. Well my location changed for my u-box and the only way I found that out was when I checked my online account to double check the address to where I was going. I should have been notified of this change. So due to this change I had to use for mileage for the truck, therefore resulting in more money. Once I found out the new location as to where my u-box was I called and asked to have my u-box put outside because I would be loading up my u-box after store hours. I was provided multiple documents of confirmation that my box would be available on the lot. I attempted to call the location back because I was confused by how to know which u-box would be mine if I arrived if there were multiple boxes. I was told someone from the store would call me back, but I did not receive a call the same day. When I arrived on site to load up my u-box I could not figure out which one was mine. I looked on all shipping labels that were located on each box and none came close to matching my information. I immediately called customer service to make them aware that I could not find my u-box. Customer service could not tell me which one would be mine. I ended up having to extend my truck reservation a day due to the issue. I had to pay for that extra day and extra mileage for the truck. I spoke with the store manager about my u-box not being available to me. He, Billy, was very nice and explained to me that my box was outside and available, but understood why I was confused as to finding which one it was. That same day we loaded the box up. It was very clean, and had all of the blankets inside to use! Due to the time delay an entirely new reservation was created, therefore resulting in a time delay on getting the u-box shipped. I was not happy to know that my u-box was now not being shipped out until 2 days later than originally planned. I called customer service on the day that my u-box was scheduled to ship and no one could locate my box. Finally, after being on hold for an hour someone transferred me to the store in which it was loaded. The box was apparently still there and unable to ship to “needing further clarification”. I told the rep on the phone that I didn’t understand the hold up and that I was a very unhappy customer. I was then given a number for a manger to call. When I called this number it went to a voicemail of someone I had not heard of. Come to find out this number provid

This location was poorly staffed. There was only one person working and many people kept waiting. I also called a location in the Daleville, VA area and the gentleman was very rude to me on the phone telling me that he guaranteed that the trailer I wanted was unavailable in the ENTIRE Roanoke Valley. When I told him I was still going to call around he hung up on me. I called the next location and got exactly what I wanted.

I was promised a 4x8 trailer at 230.00. Bought the 70.00 ins. AnddtotalEAS TO BE 330.00. I was given a 5x8 instead and was quoted the 4x8 price. BUT WAS CHARGED the price of the 5x8! The old bait and switch act! I have rented lots of trailers from uhaul but will be taking my business elsewhere!

I would say communication is the biggest problem. I called to make reservation and was promised 10 foot truck. Then I called 2 days before the move day and was told there was no truck available and I was told then that apparently even if you have a reservation you aren't guaranteed the truck. No one told me that on the day I made reservation! I was devastated. Then luckily they had 20 foot truck, even though that was way big for me, but better than no truck. Overall, not a good experience.

I order my unhaul from one location and got an email stating that they had it at another location when arriving to pick it up I was told that the trailer was at a completely different location. I think that if the trailer is reserved at one location then that location should either have one available of make arrangements to get one. Upset with the way my reservation was handled.

Once things were finalized I was pleased. My initial experience was HORRIBLE! I reserved my truck 6/1/18 for the following weekend. The day before my reservation I had not received confirmation communication. I decided to confirm by viewing my email. After doing so, I realized my time changed from 10 am to 2:30 pm at a location that was 50+ miles from my requested location. This was a major issue because I had people helping me due to medical situations with myself and my daughter. I spoke to numerous staff and they claimed nothing could be done. I had no choice in terms of moving another weekend and although they gave me extra miles that was more gas and an inconvenience. I will not use U-Haul in the future...I will hire a moving company!!

We ordered a 26 ft truck and they were out. We found out they were out the time we picked up the truck. Would have been nice to know about the truck size not available before we drove to that location

The staff here was extremely helpful. All the equipment ended up not being at this location, but they helped sort out the contract, and found the closest location possible to pickup the auto transport. The truck they reserved was nearly brand new, and worked perfectly for the long distance move. Highly recommended!

This was not the original drop off. The first location listed was closed and locked down. The first location should not even be entertained as a drop point after hours. I was furious, but the people at your service desk and at the second location totally made it right. Great job.

Not this location's fault, I did make a reservation a week in advance for the Lynchburg, VA location about 2 miles from our moving location. We had to go to Roanoke which was about 45 miles from us, and it was originally going to be more but thankfully customer service late at night helped us out. Thankfully it all worked out, but if at all more of a notice in advance that we would have to travel such a distance would be nice. Also I understand that U-Haul has a policy for keeping trucks for in-town, but at my requested location of pick up there were trucks available in the size that we wanted. Anyways college time little crazy with so many people moving, Thanks for listening

I had the worse moving experience ever. It began with picking up equipment. I would never recommend to anyone to use U-Haul for long distance moving! I drove across the United States and experienced a blow out and when I needed help their response was unacceptable! The truck I rented had poor alignment and the cab window was not sealed correctly and the noise was terrible causing you to not be able to hear inside the cab. For the amount of money I paid I didn't get my monies worth!

I reserved the smallest trailer just to move a washer and dryer. When I arrived they didn’t have my trailer but a bigger one. They said they wouldn’t charge me extra and my receipt shows that. But my credit card was charged for the bigger trailer. Poor customer service plain and simple. Will never use them again.

I am furious that I had to spend nearly double what I expected because UHaul didn't have a towing package available any closer to Roanoke than Blacksburg. Had I known that more than six hours in advance, I would have found another company to rent from. When someone rents a truck and tow package together, you should assume they want to those TOGETHER, not 45 minutes apart. As a result I had to switch to an "in town" rental and pay exorbitant rates. Never using UHaul again.

Uhaul needs to have 2 people on deck at all times. Williamson Road location. Wait was long because only 1 person working. I was 3rd in line and had made my reservation earlier. The 1st customer had the Uhaul rep input all this info customer did not have the money. Then, customer after that then he had to install a hitch and then it was my turn. Other than that, he was really nice and under a bit of pressure and going as fast as he could so I understood. I always get a good safe vehicle and and have a good experience with Uhaul so my only complaint is no less than 2 workers.

I rented this truck from my grandson and I wasn't sure exactly of the location he would be returning it. When he was looking for a closer place to return it they told him it would be a fee if he changed the drop-off place then I had selected It On My Own Line application. The Williamson Road location told him that he could decide a drop off point and they would Mark that is unknown. He was looking for a drop off point that would be close to a Metro so he could get back home. Kind of disappointing that it would be a fee to drop off a truck at a U-Haul location other than the one his grandmother selected.

When I reserved the vehicle, I made it clear that I wanted to drop the vehicle in Blacksburg, Va. When I was finished with the vehicle, I called the number and was told that I had to drive 45min away (Roanoke, Va) to drop it. That was very inconvenient and I was very tired and frustrated. I'm awaiting a discount on the rental. I was quoted $20, but that is not enough in my opinion.

I reserved a 15ft truck at a location the uhaul website said had what I was looking for. I get a call from U-Haul saying they don't have that equipment at that store and change my reservation to another store 10 miles away. That added $15.00 to the cost of my rental. uhaul.com misrepresented inventory. It felt like a bait and switch. The truck was fine, the service was excellent but having to pay the extra cost was unacceptable.

I would have liked for a rental reduction as I only kept the rental for 24 hrs and not the mandatory 48 hr rental. This allowed u-haul to possibly profit from the extra day on my rental. IF I had been over 48 hrs you would not have hesitated to charge me for the extra hours. The road should go both way and favor the customer. I have moved with u-haul several times in the past few years and may re-think my future rentals with another carrier.

The gentleman at the location was great and very personable. I really appreciated that especially after the hassle I had on 4 different occasions. I called the Salem location and they said Williamson Rd had a 10ft truck available so I called them and was told they didn't. So, then I called another location and was told they didn't have a truck and didn't offer any further assistance. So, I called back to the Williamson Rd location to ask about options and was told the had a cargo van which I appreciated the offer but it wasn't what I needed. She then transferred me to "customer service" and they found a 10 ft truck at Williamson Rd and we scheduled it. Later that evening I got a text saying they had rescheduled my time and it wouldn't be a truck, it would be a van.... after all that I finally got someone to schedule a 15 ft truck. Then I get my bill today and it has a $25 "cleaning" fee? I'm not sure what they had to clean, there was nothing left in the truck at all.. I was told the only fees would be the $39.99 plus $1.29 per mile. I'd like someone to explain the cleaning fee... Very upset about the entire process and I just felt no one knew what was going on and I never once received any kind of apology or any extra help.

Equipment was clean, but well maintained is a different story. The steering in the 17' truck I rented made the vehicle legitimately difficult to drive. I felt as if I was a hazard on the road because of constantly having to fight the steering wheel to stay inside a single lane. Other than that, the service was great and the guy working the desk was very friendly. I was able to get in and get out quickly even though there were customers ahead of me. Really, the only bad thing I can say about this location is the mechanical condition of the truck I rented. I fear if the truck was rented to someone more unfamiliar with driving a large vehicle they could have caused an accident.
