JASMINE BThe truck was in the worst condition I've seen from U-Haul. It was raining that day and the roof was leaking in multiple places. This obviously caused me additional headaches when loading and unloading the truck as I had to compensate on the fly for the rain coming in the truck and try to protect my things from being soaked. The truck was also unsafe to drive once the sun started going down because the dashboard barely lit up when I turned on the lights. I had to follow behind a friend for the drive to ensure I was driving an appropriate speed because the control panel was so dim you couldn’t read it. In addition to these two major issues, the truck felt very worn out to drive. It felt like a wheezing old machine ready to give up on life whenever I accelerated, let off the gas, or pressed the brake. In short, this truck should’ve been retired a few years ago. It was in laughably bad shape. I couldn’t believe it was given to me.

stephanie bCarol is the epitome of professionalism & efficiency at the Benton Harbor ligation. She greeted us promptly outside upon arrival despite the frigid temps & rain & snow coming down and singe-handedly drove the car off the dolly & unhooked the dolly from the car before instructing us how to access the storage unit. After we unloaded into the unit , Carol then checked the Uhaul regarding mileage & equipment condition & kindly adjusted our account to reflect gas used and miles driven. We were thoroughly impressed & thankful for her expertise from beginning to end. Carol in an invaluable asset to Benton Harbor Uhaul.
kellee aUnfortunately we needed to move in the midst of a snow storm. Upon securing our unit (#422) we were told if items fit in the truck (26'truck) the items would fit in the unit. Due to snowdrifts and equipment placement, we were unable to access unit 422, thus our unit was reassigned to unit 403. Accessing this unit proved difficult. Rentors were expected to physically assist with moving trailers out of the way to access the unit, through, at least, a foot of snow, as the grounds had not been plowed in days. Upon arriving with the truck, the grounds still had not been plowed, truck got stuck and patrons were still not able to access unit, due to equipment placement and snow. Carol did encourage us to return the next day; she would work on getting it plowed and equipment moved for access. Day 2: grounds were cleared and we were able to access our unit. Unfortunately, we did not have the man power for moving, as we had to return a second day.

Kerry L | First ImpressionsThe truck I rented had the hood latch broken. Therefore I could not put any washer fluid in the tank under the hood. It was terrible winter weather conditions outside and could hardly see out of the windshield. Very unsafe. The truck has 172,000 miles. it shakes terrible at any speed over 45 mph. The radio speaker was blown and I could not use the radio. The passenger side door does not close all the way. This truck needs to be taken out of your fleet.

Christy RI spoke with someone above the local level today regarding a situation I find myself in. I have been cleaning out my deceased mother’s house and rented 2 trucks. I worked 36 hours straight to get the last of the things out by the 22nd and to return one of the trucks . I woke up quite sick this morning and have been in bed all day with a high fever and lung congestion. The things in the remaining truck were to go to Goodwill this morning but I was unable to do it. Good will will not be open until Tuesday now because of Christmas and the weekend. I am asking for some kind of exception so I won’t have to pay an extra 2 days.

ERIK WI will never recommend this location. In fact I will be cancelling my future reservations that I have scheduled with them. They’re actually commiting insurance fraud. They’ve accused me of damage that occurred from another customer on a previous rental. The vehicle was covered with claim stickers when I picked it up. Their corporate office even admitted that there was already a previous claim filed for the exact damage I was accused of and charged for. They never answer their local phone number so good luck if you need to talk to them. Do yourself a favor and find another location.I’m taking them to court if they don’t resolve this. Completely unacceptable!

Douglas JU-haul rental on M-139 in Benton Harbor is the best run U-haul I've ever seen. The facility is always organized and clean with all the "stuff" one would ever need for moving. I rent trucks and trailers over 20 years and never a problem. The staff is always polite, professional and helpful. I'm usually in and out in under 20 minutes whether I reserve equipment or drop in. A terrific rental company.

Michael BI would have rated this UHaul facility higher, however, things have been going downhill since we first rented a unit over a year ago. The card reader in the back of the building by the ramp wouldn't work and I was given excuses as to why that was. Because it wouldn't work I had to go around to the front of the building and use that card reader. Also the flat cart went missing in the building making it difficult to transport heavier/bigger pieces. The facility was clean, but not well maintained as mentioned previously. The door by the ramp also was difficult to get open from the outside and we had to use force from the inside to get it opened. A lot of the times, both doors would also be left opened and not shut properly.

The previous night I spoke with a customer service representative by phone in the U-Haul call center and in speaking with him I requested if I could extend my truck return time at no charge and he assured me that that would not be a problem. he offered to extend my time to 5 PM with no charge. I clarified with him that there would be no charge and he assured me it was a courtesy and there would be no charge. When I arrived at the store apparently that conversation with the call center had not been noted on my account and the system charge me $54 for the time extension Eric was very helpful and courteous and rectifying the problem for me and helping me to choose a storage unit that suited my needs. He was also helpful and getting the truck maneuvered to where I could unload easily. Eric is a very helpful courteous and respectful customer service representative. Thank you Eric!
