I had a genuinely great experience with U-Haul in Smithtown and stored my belongings in a unit for almost two years after a move from Michigan. The loading dock of building C made everything so easy to move. The facility was always clean, including the bathroom. I have told many people about this storage location and will continue to share my great experience.

Rented the 15 foot truck prefect size moved my apartment into my new apartment complex. I wouldn’t have fit with a bigger truck but the one I chose for perfectly. The guys at the store helped my pick my truck size and I’m grateful that’s why they are the experts!!! I also set up to have a hitch installed on my SUV so that the next time I can rent a trailer instead. Pleased with the service

The facility in Smithtown is well run and well maintained. I had a unit there for over a decade. In that time, U-Haul acquired the property. U-Haul made it better every year, and management and staff running this location remotely are friendly, responsive and professional. They make the experience smooth and solve problems quickly. perfect in respects except that the access panel on the left side of the entry door is not working properly snd requires sometimes three tries to have the door open. This is for building C

I would recommend this pick up place ONLY IF: There is a HUNAM on site to help when it takes you 1/2 hour to get the information inputted correctly on the app and your screen doesn't keep going blank at the same spot! after contacting the local rental in Nesconset and 1800UHAUL calling me to help me get accepted to get my Key Code; they had to come help me in person anyway. HIRE MORE STAFF!!!!!

Too many on-site smartphone requests during the pickup process. Tasks such as scanning my driver's license could have been requested while I was at home, on Wi-Fi, and making the initial reservation. While it worked, the process was slow and cumbersome over cellular.

Although a 3 day grace period should begin *after the due date, not on it! Therefore that's only a TWO day grace period.... And I wish there was still staff and an office in Smithtown, but I understand it's difficult... Otherwise your staff and facilities are excellent, thank you.

I called to make my reservation for a storage of 5x8x8 and was told it was on a ground level with climate control. That it would be $79.99 each month with the first month free. That was not the case when I got there, and they refused to even help me told me I needed to go to another location and the cost is $116.00. I will be looking for a new place as I will never use Uhaul again

I was not happy when the the excellent staff was removed from the Smithtown building, it was great to have those people there. Also not happy new locks were forced upon us, and a three day grace period does not include the actual date due, but I appreciate the efficiency and access otherwise.

I cannot be more pleased with my experience. I had many items left in a 26’ U-Haul truck that I needed to put in my 10x10 storage unit. I was worried about having a large truck and moving everything into the building, but was surprised and relieved to see a very large truck loading dock specifically for this purpose! Hand carts next to the door we’re also very helpful. I am extremely pleased. Instructions to access the unit were clear and easy to understand.

Your call center is full of the most obnoxious people I have ever dealt with. They are insulting and rude. And it takes forever to get through. My trailer was stuck in the ice and rather than simply tell me that I could unhitch it and pull it out, they talked to me like I was a dumb POS and said they couldn’t help me with roadside assistance… I spent hours damaging my property and my car trying to do something that would have been easy if you actually cared about your clients. They gave me some BS story about how they can’t give me any advice for “legal” reasons. I will NEVER use your company again unless someone calls and assures me this was a big mistake.

The Uhaul app needs a lot of work. It wouldn't accept pictures for return (odometer and fuel) and no other options to return truck when no employees at this location.

I could not get in with the access code given to me. Also there was no specific info on the correct building that our storage unit was in. It took 1 1/2 hours to enter after being on phone on hold for 20 min with customer service. No personnel working at the location is absolutely awful. This would've saved a lot of aggravation

I paid 13 days ahead of time. The employee Alexis at the Nesconset By-Pass, Smithtown, NY branch, put the wrong telephone number, the wrong alternate contact's name and address, the wrong address of the renter and then cancelled the contract after I paid for it?!? This occurred on Dec. 19, 2020 approx. 3:20 p.m. My move in date is for 8 am on Jan. 1, 2021. My next rental payment is due 16 days after I move in !?!

Overcharged in every conceivable way. The Uhaul rep said $20 on the phone. Then I find out $20.00 plus $1.50 per mile. Then I get my invoice and UHaul tacks on 45 miles I never drove. The invoice says I drove 64 miles !!!! That’s like driving to New York City and back. Meanwhile, I moved furniture from Smithtown to St James - Maybe 15 miles. Maybe. In other words, your company stole $100 from me, and no one had the nerve to call me.

Because of covid I could not retrieve the rest of my belongings from the atorage unit which was not much I tried my best they are now giving me all kinds of problems due to this ... even though uhual owes me over 600 dollars in lost revenue for issues on my move to new york I have honestly used uhaul twice in my life and I will never again use uhaul for anything I would rather carry my stuff by hand from state to state terrible company all around .....

The van was fine, but on UHaul’s end, you must make clear to the customer that they’ve signed up for mobile pick up and what that means. I had no idea that I was going to a location with no actual person. My entire day was delayed as a result. For someone like me who hasn’t used U-Haul in two years, I had no idea What was going on. Please do a better, clearer job of altering people that they signed up for mobile pick up.

Renting from the U-Haul Storage at Bellemeade Ave location (Smithtown, NY) was a pain. The website advertises supplies to rent or buy (boxes, moving blankets, etc.) but there were no supplies on site. If you want to pick up the advertised moving supplies you just have to drive your rented truck with its $0.99/mile fee a couple of miles to another U-Haul location. The website does not mention that this is an "unmanned" facility, which was posted on the door when I arrived. There was an intercom on the outside wall of the building, and the lady on the other end was very nice and as helpful as she could be from 2 miles away. She suggested I check in online; this was an option when reserving online but it was not at all indicated that online check-in would be required. She suggested I use a smart phone; I don't have a smartphone, and neither does my friend who was there with me wasting his afternoon waiting for me to rent a moving van. She then told me I'd need to come to the U-Haul site where she was, again 2 miles away, basically adding $4 to my mileage charge and subtracting half an hour from my day. As I was leaving, a U-Haul worker happened to stop by the building, and was very friendly and helpful actually renting the truck I reserved to me in person. He explained that the site was recently unmanned and that he was only there occasionally for the attached self-storage facility. "Would you recommend this location to a friend?" I have already warned friends NOT to use this location. Your Smithtown/Ronkonkoma employees are very nice and helpful. Van was great, no problems.

The staff was excellent and the facility well maintained. The vehicle was great! However, the scrutiny of the vehicle on the return was like I rented a Mercedes. It is a moving truck and to really look for each mark and scratch inside is a little over the top. The check-in attendant told me that they really make them go over each truck with a fine tooth comb. Looks like they are looking to make $$$ on the return for damages and scratches. Just the feeling I got. I've rented from other locations and never inspected to this extent. May have to think about trying another location

Not Charge > $1.00 USD for miles..... By the time a customer gets it to their initial destination, from the U-Haul location, the cost exceeds the amount of the truck. I would not recommend U-Haul to anyone... I would tell anyone moving to just get a moving company. If you are going to pay that much, then someone should be moving your furniture for you. I know you'll do nothing to change this policy, but felt I should extend my displeasure with your service..... The employees at the location were excellent.... corporate, however, could rot in hell.
