The cost for the storage unit consistently increased over time, otherwise this would be a 5 star review.
WHITNEY MARDIS | Overall ExperienceI
Eric Hayes | Overall ExperienceReally liked that I could reserve and do all the paperwork online and move in too the storage unit all online and that a lock was provided. And not a cheep lock. A good lock. Like that it's also code locked gates. And a dead end road. Never had issues with my unit getting wet when it rained for days. Nice too have a light inside your unit. Would be nice if you could access your until anytime. Thanks uhaul. Will use your storage again if needed.
Akili Rittenhouse | Overall ExperienceVery disappointing facility. First, I had to travel to the far west side of town and the unit is on the far east side of town. Then, I had to get out of my truck to use the key card for the gate! The driving space is way too tight. The unit is pressed wood with gaps instead of block, so any potential critters can come in from another unit. The entry has three elevation changes making it impossible to use any standard moving devices smaller than a large-wheel hand truck. The single light is hanging from the electrical box, making it a potential safety hazard. - And then, you have to get out again to leave! The last company I used with the same sized unit had block walls, grading, and in-your-car key swipe for $69 mo. While your customer service is good, your facility is junk! ABSOLUTELY not worth $134 mo. I'm surprised you even ask folks to comment...
curtis stevens | First ImpressionsThe area facility is not big enough to fit rhere own 26ft truck in I barely scraped by to get out of it and there are doors on the other side of my unit and I need an item and was told I cannot open those doors.
MARC HOLTHOUSE | Online Move InStaff left early and was not there, we were given the wrong unit #, although access hours were convenient, actual ACCESS was not, our original storage reservation was not transferred over with our original truck rental reservation to the new date, and general manager had to be emailed, so assistance was lacking. This was NOT a good experience, at all! And although most times phone staff was friendly, they were only slightly helpful with the office closing before hours.
Patrick Hoban | First ImpressionsThe owner Sarah was very helpful and informative in regards to the questions and concerns I had
Stacey DuPree | First ImpressionsOnly thing i didn't like was told there was 2 doors at the storage unit and there is only one. Doesn't matter. Still easy access.
Karen VanWinkle | First ImpressionsI confirmed and paid for my storage unit, chose my pin, was explained how to do it, and then arrived back to the storage unit with my stuff and couldn't access the building. It said my code was unknown. The number for the general manager never answered, so I called the customer service line and was told that my code I chose was the correct one entered, but because they couldn't reach the GM, there was nothing I could do except I was offered to rent the uhaul truck another day at MY EXPENSE. Absolutely unacceptable. I suggest that the UHaul worker who sets up the pin and storage space PHYSICALLY WALKS OUT WITH THE CUSTOMER RIGHT AFTER STORAGE PURCHASE TO CONFIRM THE CODE OPENS THE STORAGE UNIT DOOR. I now have to miss part of work today to fix this, get with an employee to help me access my storage unit, and now I have to unload everything into there myself because everyone but me will be at work on Monday morning. Very disappointed.
Marie Turpin | First ImpressionsPrices are a little steep.
Tracy Aleshire | First ImpressionsVery good service. I was very happy with the U-Haul vehicle and the storage unit. 😊
Amy Wiley | First ImpressionsPeople there are very helpful and polite... I will take all my business to that store
VICTOR ORSBON | First ImpressionsI always paid my rent on time for my unit. The last month I was charged $15 late fee because you guys took over and the lot manager basically told me you're Out of luck I can't give you a refund. This is bad business business I pulled my stuff out of your unit on the 1st and will be finding somewhere else to store my stuff. What a disappointment
CHAD OTTE | Overall ExperienceThe buy out of Stronghold Storage in Richmond, Indiana, was poorly executed. Along with no indication if an office person would be accessible on site rather than having to drive two or more blocks to get to someone for issues, the prices were also immediately raised. Additionally, the local manager, Johnte Williams, was unaware of emails that were being issued in his name outlining free insurance for the first month. When this was pointed out, he was rude in his response, denying knowledge of any such email. A dissatisfactory experience all the way around.
MARY GREY | Overall ExperienceMy above answers are all based on “were”. As in past tense. Since you’ve taken over the entire experience has gone south. Your office staff was amazing and it is a shame you will no longer have them on site. I no longer have items to store at your facility, but if I did, having them there is what would bring me back. You bought the facility, fired the staff and raised your rates. You are now wanting more money for an unstaffed facility with no additional amenities. What would bring me back to U-Haul’s storage facilities? I understand you need to make a profit but I’m afraid that with the rates you are now charging you have priced yourselves well above the market and your business will suffer as a result of it. You are charging more for less and that won’t go over well. Had I required more time using a storage facility chances are I would have moved my belongings to a better priced storage facility, if only as a matter of principle. I know some people might be stuck, because moving your belongings is expensive, and some can’t afford to do it. I am not one of those people. Don’t you think people will notice that you are charging more than comparable facilities and offering less services? Well, I suppose it won’t affect me but I think what you are doing is wrong and it will make me reconsider U-Haul as an option regarding moving trucks, etc. I disdain a company that tries to squeeze every penny out of its client base solely on the basis of margin. You might want to rethink what you are doing as in the end your bottom line will no doubt suffer from your poor decision making. Regards, Matthew Cummings
MATTHEW CUMMINGS | Overall ExperienceOnly issue was we was told it was free first month then when we got there there was a 10.95 cent charge for insurance that needed paid after loading funds on card the computers went down then we were told there would be a lock on storage unit door and there wasn't but they promptly brought us one however I done sent for another lock to be purchased but that's because I had 3 names need 3 keys thanks for all yalls help much appreciated
Darlene harran-martin | First ImpressionsExcellent Customer service!!!
Dewey Inman | First ImpressionsThank you much
RODNEY HENDRICKSON | Overall ExperienceThe Staff is very Friendly
DIANA DEPEW | First ImpressionsThe guys I talked with were friendly and helpful.
JUDY WRIGHT | First ImpressionsMy only issue is that you are converting this to a remote site. Personally, I love the couple who’ve managed it for years. They are friendly, professional and they live onsite, which makes me feel very secure. I understand you will be eliminating what I feel are very crucial staff positions in the name of saving money, all while raising our storage rates. Because of this it is likely I will be removing my things from your facility, I’ve not yet decided. You know, profits are important, they keep your shareholders happy and keep you afloat. However, when profits become more important than people, your core business being keeping people happy, then you’ve lost site of your mission and have fallen lock step in with every other run of the mill storage facility where the person doesn’t matter and the monthly payment is the only thing considered. While I’m sure you will maintain some of your customers it is also likely, even probable that many will not adjust as easily to you walking in, dismissing well liked staff, and raising rates, while reducing services. You may be the new owners but just who do you think you are. Why don’t you go build your own facility elsewhere and leave us as we were. U-haul does not as a general rule come with very high marks for operating their customer service aspect of the business very well. You force people to wait in long lines and keep them on hold for far too long. When I found out it was your organization that purchased the storage facility I’ve been happy with for a long time my heart sank. I knew that instead of the personal service that drew me to this facility I would now be faced with a slew of corporate policies and procedures designed, not to make me happy, but to put as many of my dollars into your pockets as I will allow. It won’t be many, I plan to be taking my things elsewhere as soon as the smallest disruption on your part ensues. And by the way, I will always be the customer of the people I signed my contract for, you will receive a monthly payment only so long as I need to look elsewhere.
