Having one person handling phone and customers waiting in line is absolutely rediculous. It took an hour to serve 4 people giving an average of 15 minutes per person who had reservations. By my calculation the last in line at the door woulb be lucky to get to the desk in less than 2 hours. This has been an issue with every rentaI I did with U-Haul. Serait-il possible d’informer adéquatement votre personnel concernant les débuts du mois et fin de mois pour la location des camions. J’ai dû négocier pendant 2jrs avec la réceptionniste ( une jeune employé à Gatineau) Et une réceptionniste a Ottawa pour finaliser le contrat à 4 jrs du déménagement. Owner was really rude with all the clients before me while I was waiting to pick up my trailer. Her behaviors made all customers behind me really incomfortable. At return the gentleman looking at my truck could not address me in my preferred language of choice "French". This is a gatineau location and this is unacceptable. Then he was quick on the trigger to charge me with 15$ fees for few leaves and 4 prints of shoes. He mentioned that they have told me that morning that it needs to be clean otherwise it would be charged. First they did not and this was ridiculous as it was not dirty it is normal use. Finally, he asked me to wait for him to clean up than park the trailer at the final parking while the other client just drop and leave the trailer . I needed to leave and I was not going to stay 20-30 mins extra for him to clean the trailer and do his job. So I asked him to unattached the trailer. He refused so I started unattached it. He gave me a lot of attitude which cause the tension to rise. Overall I would give less than 1 star but there is not that option. On Monday I will place a complaint to the BBB office about service and language issue.Mathieu M.
Hi. i booked a truck and a 6 x 12 trailer on the september 7. Here's my confirmation number : 83699640. My husband went to get the equipement as it was supposed and we he got there, he had a 5 x 8 trailer and we had to bring back the equipement in the same day instead of 24 hours later. Because of that, we made 40 km more then it was supposed. Also, the service was bad and the lady that served my husband was not very kind. We asked for a rebate and she refused totaly. The same thing happened last year and we wont ever go back there and we wont encourage anyone to go there either.Alain C.

Reception woman was extremely rude to customers including myself. She got into a heated argument with one of the customers right before me. For me, I was 5 minutes late over the 30 minute threshold because the line was so long and when I asked before I got in line that it was ok she would just yell at me and say â€œwe will cancel your reservation if you are over the time limit â€ even though I had made it in time but was waiting in the long line and went over time. Luckily it wasn't cancelled but I was sitting there in line the whole time worrying about my reservation. She should honestly be fired she is a terrible employee who makes everyone who goes to that location hate u-haul. I spoke about the experience to 10 other people on moving day and they all said the same thing that u-haul is terrible. I think it's because of the customer reception is usually filled with miserable people especially this location, every other employee was nice except her. I get there is a labour shortage due to covid but your hiring practices are pretty bad when people like that get hired. I would never recommend that u haul location to a friend I'd tell them avoid it like the plague. Also because of my experience I'm going to be telling people to avoid u-haul all together.Nicholas L.

There was no phone service available, I spent over 2 hours trying to reach anyone on the phone and ended up not reaching anyone. That was a very stressful situation as I needed to ensure my booking was ok and I needed to change the pick up time and no one was there to assist me. I ended up going to another U-Haul location in Gatineau and they were able to transfer my booking. I am very disappointed with the service I've received.Camille D.

I selected a drop off point close to my new apartment. I selected it also because it was close to the rental car office where I booked a car. Why does U-Haul pretend to allow choice when they will immediately bait and switch? I got a message to return to a U-Haul space way across Gatineau, a 30 dollar taxi ride from where I wanted to be. The kid who was supposed to be checking in vans disappeared for about half an hour, and the admin gal was swamped, so a bunch of people were sitting out waiting to return because they were understaffed. The kid who looked in the van, I told him about how U-Haul charged me for 2 dollys, a utility dolly and 48 blankets but only gave me 16 blankets and a dolly and he said I had to talk to the admin. She had to call for help to figure out how to fix my bill, and that meant when we left there were tons of people in line. U-Haul has great people, great boxes and moving tools, but their booking is a joke. I have never had so many problems with a company saying I can do one thing and then changing every detail to suit them.Arlene P.

My only disappointment was having to waste 25 minutes... I performed my reservation online using the Mobile Pickup option. I followed all of the steps up to the point where I was supposed to retrieve my key. To my surprise, the key was not in a lockbox, rather I was told to retrieve my key from in the building. I had to wait in a line of 8 people for 25 minutes just get to the desk, show my reservation code and get my key, which took 10 seconds. There was one employee at the counter working two reservations at a time, while also doing reservations over the phone. Everyone in line was frustrated. I would recommend that the Mobile keys are put in the lockbox, or that there is an express line for Mobile reservations to get their keys without having to wait in line while non-mobile users are setting up their reservations. This was an absolutely unnecessary waste of everyone's time.Peter G.

I entered the office there was a person in front of me, at the counter the lady was talking on the phone, after 10 minutes she received them after she left leaving me alone in the huge warehouse ten minutes after another attendant came in and then left. I waited another 10 minutes he came back without apologies like it was normal. I took the van for 2h I returned to UHAUL the mileage indicated 13 kms I was asked to pay $ 10 for gasoline in addition to the total but returned to about $ 67 for a return trip home without having done what whether it be. J'ai eu de la difficultÃ© Ã localiser le camion, de plus les camions sont stationnÃ©s beaucoup trop prÃ¨s l'un de l'autre, les miroirs doivent Ãªtre repliÃ©s afin de pouvoir reculer, impossible de voir en reculant. Les dommages sur le camion n'avaient pas tous Ã©tÃ© marquÃ©s d'un X. Le personnel sur place ne m'ont pas dirigÃ© Ã la bonne place pour rÃ©cupÃ©rer les clÃ©s qui Ã©taient dans la boite du camion. Returned equipment and waited around for a half hour. Staff were giving us the run-around telling us to talk to other people who would then direct us back to the first person. Felt ignored. Returns staff were driving around in a pickup truck moving garbage bins here and there and deliberately ignored us, then told us to talk to the people inside, whom we had already talked to. People who arrived after us were served first. When we finally got the vehicle assessed it took less than 2 mins so I was annoyed that I had spent so much time waiting and wandering aimlessly instead of being helped. Service! Service! Service! The on site manager (Tina) is very rude with clients (she kicked-out the client before me in the line-up on a Saturday morning). She takes calls for many minutes at 8:00 am on a Saturday when there is a line-up of clients. She is doing everything by herself and don't empower her employees at all; therefore they are all waiting for her to get an authorization or an approval. Great product, but very very bad service. I booked 7 weeks in advance, reserved 21 foot truck, and when I went to pick up the truck, they said my reservation was canceled! Once again U-Haul has messed up my reservation for the second time. After arguing in store for over 2 hours, as well as being on hold For over an hour, I was given a 10 foot truck. No apology no discount. In fact I paid the same price for a 10 foot truck as I did for the original 21 foot truck I reserved! This company is no run well, and has no care or consideration for people's time.Emily S.

This had to be the worse place ever to store our things. We waited over an hour to get our storage place and the service was absolutely terrible and very slow. If we didn’t need a storage, I would have never come there in Gatineau. The staff was not friendly or courteous. It’s too bad it’s the only place around that was closest to us. The staff was super competent but the waiting time was too huge ! I had to wait in line for 55 min just to get my truck keys. Another customer had to wait 40 min just to buy a box ! It's not the staff fault as they tried to multi task between phone and us, but the location should hire more of them and structure the process. I see it badly managed. When a customer complaints, it holds a line, then the other staff has 10 people on the phone waiting for their turn, and the other deal between going checking the trucks and serving customers. It's not good and it's often like that. The manager should implement a proper process, like a line specifically for truck pick-up, the other for inquiry + buy stuff, and I suggest an extra person deal with phone calls and helps out when no phone calls. I saw another person that did noting, just dealing with internal stuff and wandering around. If there's a long line, priorities should shift and others work should cease so that the bottleneck is solved. The counter service was completely unacceptable. I arrived at shortly before 11:00 for my 11:00 rental of pickup truck and auto transporter but did not get to the counter until noon. There was only 7 persons ahead of me. There was at times 3 people on the counter but nobody being served because all personnel were either on the company phones or their cell phones. It's hard to believe it took 2-3 people 1 hour to complete 7 contracts. When I got outside the pickup I rented was being used to move another trail and it took another 25 minutes before the Auto transporter was hooked to the truck. Poor poor service.FREDERICKJ H.

The truck was kind off too old and or need to be repaired or replaced. The service at Gatineau saint Louis branch not the best. My reservation was at 8 , I've arrived 7.30 there was a line and only one girl who took her time and spent like 30 minutes with each client. Suddenly there an other one who came from outside and left then she came back with a coffee cup from Mac and she parked her car on the handicap â™¿ station. She entered the room and started screaming on people asking them to back forward ðŸ™„ like 2 or 3 meters from the counter she was completely rude and uncomfortable to work with. She called me on f** way like she was paying me money to buy her service, and when I've asked her if I can change my truck to smaller one she said in stupid way no I don't I have any disponiblety but she has cz I saw like 5 small truck outside. And she didn't even check her system...at the end I guess she is the responsible or the manager. No I don't recommend this service otherwise you choose the good people to work with you.Daniel N.

So if you’re very familiar with Uhaul policies and all and need little to 0 assistance to do anything at all. Go ahead and choose this place. If not, IM BEGGING YOU TO READ this comment and all the other ones. So this place is like a prank TV show except the they’re are pranking you on how much disrespect you can handle. Gosh First of all l, do not try to call there. No really. Do. Not. Will they pick up ? Sure. Will they answer you ? NO. You will be left inline to wait while listening to them pretending to be busy for numerous minutes. Should you go there in person then ? Absolutely ! But please do so at the first rays of sunshine as they are so slow that pass 9:30a waiting in line is sufferable. There are plenty of employees but only 1-2 on the counters that also tour new customer and show storage unit. So nobody will help you. The other ls just stand around the place smoking. Make sure you double lock your storage units and that you record/take pictures of it before and after moving or they will try to hit with fees. Print your order summaries to the office or they will try to make pay twice the same fees. Call in advance to check on your truck or storage units as their $50 reservation warranty is just for show. Insist (or bring someone that can insist) on being shown to your storage or your truck in person; especially it is your first time. Or for any damages it’ll be your words against theirs. Went to check, if all was ok at the U-Hall center, I was told that they were no 10x15 available (but there were 3 when I reserve) , He reserve a 10x10 and a 5x15 for me and I had to pay for my padlocks which was free on line. Just want to say if it was not for the UHaul manager at the storage we would have had a real mess. 3 days before we were to move they cancelled the 20 foot truck saying they made a mistake They offered only a cargo van which moving a 2 bedroom condo would mean a lot if mileage and about 15 to 20 trips. Not everything as well would fit. We had no choose no one could help us. After driving in from Montreal 3 hours we hotb the truck in Ottawa uhaul and then went to the move in Gatineau Head office arranged a free UHaul storage to get everything in as the plan was to drive all back to Montreal but now we could not. Got To Gatineau storage and with even the confirmation letter they did not have the 10 x 15 we had been promised What s mess. Finally they were able to find us a locker plus let us rent a 20 foot truck for 2 hours At $79.00. Plus we paid the cargo van. And a 20 foot truck charge for Saturday May 15th when we have to drive back to Gatineau pack the truck and again drive back to Montreal. The manager did her very best and we are grateful but I would like a refund on the cargo van which was a terrible job that we had to move with till 1pm in the afternoon . The absolutely best run and maintained rental and storage operation I have utilized and I have used many over the years. In fact it is one of the TOP 3 rental and service experiences in my life. Staff are kind, courteous and beyond professional, provide solutions that are outside the box. Employees go above and way beyond expectation. Always ready to help their clients and their colleagues. They are a close knit group and are like a family and they take pride in the quality of their work and in being able to provide the client a top-shelf client experience and their work ethic and dedication to the client is exceptional. All of the above is the result of the Management group led by Tania Masse. Like any business the General Manager has to be able to get the best out of their staff and she has excelled at this. I have never seen a manager who has been able to hire great people, train staff, have them all on the same page every day they come into work and have them all buy-in to the corporate culture Tania has nurtured and embedded into the daily routine. Under the guidance of Tania the culture is top notch and it clearly resonates with her employees in all areas of the operation. I don’t have to name the names of all the staff because the general attitude of each employee is almost identical and this positive “Welcome to U-Haul how can we help you today” and “Can Do” attitude is visible everywhere and by everyone from Management, Counter Client Service staff, the staff that clean and prepare the trucks and those that clean and the storage facilities and ensure the courtesy equipment like dolly’s are available and also to the mechanics and garage staff that repair and maintain the trucks so the client has a safe and worry-free trip. I think I have clearly made my point of how my experience has gone since I discovered the St.Louis, Gatineau location. I will never go anywhere else for moving and storage requirements. To provide a typical example of the work ethic of the staff member, without naming the employee, I own a Queen sized IKEA Malm bed with a clamshell design which opens up Queen sized storage under the bed below the heavy metal frame. All to say it’s a nasty, heavy and has a lot of Hex key nuts and bolts. I commented to the employee that the metal frame would need to be totally dismantled and that I had brought a manual hex key and I would be back to dismantle it once I prepped my SUV to receive the frame which was already more than full which I was prepared to do because it was after hours and obviously it was not his job to do that while his wife waited outside to pick him up after work. Well to my surprise the employee, without being asked other than my passing comment and before I returned to dismantle the frame took it upon himself to pull out his drill driver, grabbed the 2 sizes of hex bits needed and while I was away he dismantled the heavy metal metal frame, bagged the bolts and nuts and was stacking the wooden latts that the mattress sits on. That dear U-Haul C-level Executive Management is INITATIVE in going way beyond the call of duty and that credit goes to that employee and others that perform like that 7/24/365 in Gatineau. I have never seen that at any other U-Haul be it the corporate locations or the 𝘊𝘰-located locations inside Oil Changers or Convenience Stores most of which are Epic Failures. I now drive more than 12 kilometres bypassing 2 𝘊𝘰-located places straight to St Louis in Gatineau because I value all the values Tania has instilled in her team. Your General Manager is the hardest working person there but everyone works very hard because Tania does. Comparing Tania in Gatineau to other locations I firmly believe Tania deserves a healthy raise or at least several more percentage points on her performance management bonus. I have great expectations for the Innes Road location in Ottawa with the new hire of Melanie who worked under Tania since Tania started in Gatineau. À chaque fois que je fais affaire avec U-Haul, il y a un problème à régler... Cette fois-ci, je n'ai pas pu réserver mon entrepôt en ligne de 7x10 car la date était figé. J'ai dû appeller. L'attente pour le service au téléphone ou en personne est exagérément lent ! Ensuite, la préposé me réserve mon entrpôt au téléphone. Sauf que lors de la récupération de mon contrat, il n'y a plus de 7x10 de libre. J'ai du choisir un 10x10 sans accomodations tarifaire. Ça me fâche énormément ! De plus, lorsque j'arrive à mon entrepôt avec le camion loué plein, le numéro de l'entrepôt alloué est déjà prit, et les employés ont terminé leur service ! Vous avez besoin d'une bien meilleur organisation , c'est urgent !! Sans compter les dernières locations de camion... Il y a avait un problème avec le compteur du véhicule qui nous chargeait 50 km alors qu'on en avait fait moins de 20km. Sinon, la réservation qui n'avait pas fonctionné. Mais que se passe t il avec votre compagnie U-Haul ? J'aimerais bien vous recommandé pour vos prix et vos installations chauffés mais à quoi bon si on trouve toujours des problèmes de dernière minutes. Back in February 2020, it was an emotional time, emptying and storing valuable memories of my parents that passed in Oct and Nov 2019. This was the first time I used UHaul's storage facilities. I had rented trucks and trailers in the past. Everything was clearly explained to me as to my needs. It was great to know that a military discount was offered, which was a factor that played in my decision to set up an account. Auto-paying was great, as I never had to remember to make my monthly payment. I received an email each time a payment was processed or when important information (such as COVID-19 process) needed to be relayed. I visited my locker a few times to remove and add items. This was done with ease. Motion lighting, secure swipe card and the use of UHaul carts and dollies made it even easier and safer. This past week, it was time to move the items out and I was impressed how staff accommodated the moving van outside the back bay to load up my late parents items to be moved long distance for family members. Bonjour, Mon déménagement s’est bien passé, mais j’aimerais vous informer de quelques points désagréables qui m’ont causé un stress inutile. J'ai réservé à plus d'un mois à l'avance et la gentille dame m'a mentionné de venir la veille pour quelle me donne le code et le numéro de l'entrepôt. Et elle a pris le temps de me montrer le fonctionnement des alarmes. Lorsque je me suis présenté la veille, le 29 octobre 2020, l'homme derrière le comptoir m'a dit d'attendre au lendemain matin pour faire le contrat de location. J'ai insisté pour le faire afin de ne pas perdre de temps avec le déménageur le lendemain vu l'achalandage et le temps d'attente en ces temps-ci. Il a accepté et m'a fait le contrat avec une location d'entrepôt à l'intérieur malgré ma demande pour un entrepôt à l'extérieur vu le déplacement d'une établie de 12 pieds me disant qu'il n'y en avait pas de disponible à l'extérieur?? Pourtant, la dame rencontrée lors de ma première visite m’a dit que ce n’était pas nécessaire de faire le contrat et payer à l’avance, que je n’avais pas à m’inquiéter, car il y avait beaucoup de disponibilité. Le 30 septembre au matin, je me suis présenté à nouveau au comptoir pour demander un changement d’entrepôt en expliquant que j’avais une établie de 12 pieds et qu’il serait difficile pour les gars du déménagement de circuler dans les corridors des entrepôts intérieurs. La dame qui m’a reçu m’a offert sans problème un entrepôt extérieur. Et elle nous a même donné deux autres entrepôts extérieurs pour réussir à entrer tout ce que j’avais. Autre point, un des entrepôts qui nous ont été assignés avait un lave-vaisselle à l’intérieur. Il n’a probablement pas été vérifié entre deux locations. J’ai mentionné aux personnes qui étaient aux comptoirs qu’on le laisserait à l’extérieur de l’entrepôt. Et un dernier point, le dispositif pour activer et désactiver l’alarme à l’extérieur ne semble pas fonctionner. J’ai dû retourner à l’intérieur voir les gens au comptoir et ils ont activé l’alarme à l’intérieur.francine c. | First Impressions

The young lady who helped me wend above and beyond to help me find a good locker, gave me advice of size of locker, highlighted options that would save me money, and took great care in explaining the process for accessing a locker, the codes, and even put extra information on my file as someone else would be moving my items into the locker. I know these are tough times for everyone and I'm willing to forgive one or two things, but there was a lot of unnecessary stress during this process. I did the "Rent Now" option online. My contract says I'm being charged $89.95/month, but my first bill says $92.65. I emailed the contact email about it (849071_GM@uhaul.com) and got no response. This was 9 days ago. Unrelated, I called about dropping off the truck and the woman I spoke to said I could not access my rental unit on Sunday because they're closed. I explained that I did the Rent Now option and she said I would still need to finish the contract with a representative (which after some research I discovered is not true). So we arrived on Sunday and one set of doors was wide open. So was one fo the inner doors. We found our unit and when we tried to open it, an alarm went off. So I called customer service and was forwarded to the alarm department (or something like that), who told me the alarm was not showing up in their system. When we got in the unit, the back foot or so is unusable, because there's a big pillar on one side and rat poison on the other that says "do not touch." So my 5x8 is more like a 5x7.
